The vast majority of netflix' username won't even know who Vince is. The people more inclined to watch it by anything that Vince himself says are the people already likely to watch it.
There were a lot of companies who were trying to cancel deals on the 2 days after the announcement of the lawsuit. We just didnt hear from all of them. Im sure Netflix was one of them. Sponsors/Networks were major factors that pushed the board into getting rid of Vince as well as the allegations.
Could this not be a way for Netflix to protect their investment into raw by getting out in front of the allegations, try to set the narrative and distance themselves from Vince since wwe is still getting sued?
It was largely already in the can a while ago. However, the amount spent on this documentary, combined with all the business and legal drama to follow, put the network in a conundrum. They had to put it out because otherwise it would have been a waste of millions in production costs spent; plus it might have been seen as another “catch and kill” scenario which might have hurt Netflix reputationally. At the same time, it couldn’t be released without the Janel Grant case mentioned because it had to acknowledge the most recent developments, again to head off accusations of it being a puff piece or, worse, of “catch and kill”. Netflix, and WWE, want to present pro wrestling as having moved on from this level of malfeasance. To glorify the man on top of this growth, in the face of his role in keeping this evildoing going, would have undermined that movement and might, over time, might have placed a huge target on the industry’s back.
But why do this at the expense of fracturing their relationship with TKO WWE? Smackdown replay, PLE and Network bidding will be coming up soon. Doing this without their approval doesn't make any sense.

He released that statement and totally misread the room because that's Vince, he fundamentally doesn't understand the modern media landscape and his last 8-10 years, maybe even longer, in the WWE show that.

They couldn’t because Netflix made the mistake of employing actual journalists with actual integrity who would blow the whistle. Which is way more damaging for WWE and Netflix.
