Great intro, Jim. You are becoming a real wizard of video effects! This is a "pure", rich, and balanced expression that is just a wonderful sipper. This is so much harder to get our hands on in the USA.
Hi novice. Just subscribed. Regarding Deanston, I discovered this whisky when just starting out on my whisky trip about 5 years ago. I found it fantastic. Haven’t heard a bad review. Enjoyed your review and look forward to tuning in to more. Slanje va.....🥃
What I like about this is that its not mest about with, no re-casking no wine finishing, just straight forward bourbon matured. I like the virgin oak as well.Good review Jim
Hi Jim. Everyone loves Deanston 12, me as well. I also have a bottle of Virgin Oak and like it too. We don't get the fancy sherry & wine finished versions here in Alberta. Yet.
There must be quite a bit of the older version of this still in the US. Have had to order from the UK to get this newer bottling. Both are good but this is the best of the two. Another 12 I really enjoy tasting side by side with this is Aultmore 12. Cheers Jim.
Trying to keep up with all of the content, so fashionably late to the party 😊, but I’m here. I like this stuff quite a bit, it’s rather malty with some green fruity and sweet notes to me, yet put head to head with the virgin oak, I’m giving it to the NAS, which is probably my favorite bang for your buck whisky atm. Cheers Jim, think you nailed this right down. Keep ‘m coming
One thing that got me from ralfy was "quality not quantity".... And these are the type of whiskies I try to get into my collection (drinking not keeping). I'll buy to try some of the classics but getting real quality like this far surpasses 2 or 3 bottles of run of the mill stuff. Good review and keep up the good work. Enjoyable seeing someone enjoy a good Whiskey!
Great review chap. GF12 always have a bottle when on offer. Normally have a play with it. 20ml pour of GF12 and 5ml of something else. Try it with the Deanston. Interesting stuff......Ralfy to blame 😁
We cannae get this is ON! :(. It goes straight from the Virgin Oak (never tried it, but getting a bottle for Father's Day!) right to the 18 and then some other expensive and funky cask finishes. The 12 is definitely on my list to get either in the US or the UK. Another classic whisky, Jimbo! @Donner Pass Whiskey - our LCBO (Licensed Christian Baptist Organization!) has the Aultmore 12. Might give that whirl too! :)
Cheers Richard. Yeah, sorry to hear the availability on this seems quite limited. Have had a few of those funky finishes (as shared by Malcolm Douglas) and they're awesome. Loving what Deanston are putting out. Yeah Tim mentioned the Aultmore. Must give it a whirl. Cheers mucker.
Enjoyed your review. I’m a huge fan of all that Deanston produce. Only fly in the ointment is their Kentucky cask release, @40abv, nas, soft filtration. Around £29 a bottle. Not being too well received. It’s seems a concern among Deanston fans that they are dropping standards with this release. Very well reviewed on the 12. Slainte 🥃🥃🥃👌
Cheers bud. Yeah I had a sample of that Kentucky Cask in my live stream with Roy. Wasn't brilliant I have to say. I think they're better considering the Virgin Oak their starting point. I've visions of the Kentucky Oak being a bit of a flash in the pan rather than being rolled out across the board. 🤞

I don't think you're alone in finding this one hard to get Bud. Real shame because, as you said...a real easy sipper.
Cheers mate.
Just rewatched this after cracking open a bottle tonight. Spot on. I love this bottle.
Lovely stuff mate. Cheers.

Cheers buddy. Yeah Deanston really get a well deserved good name.

Cheers David. Totally agree. Pure, natural, straight to the point whisky.

Cheers Peter. I've had samples of others and haven't tried a bad one yet. Quality stuff.
Great review. When you finished with your Bakers dozen, this will probably be close to the top. You should give us your top 3 at the end. Slainte
Cheers mate.
Like your thinking.
Fantastic Whisky. Good comparison Jim.
Cheers Malcolm. You're my "go-to" Deanston man so I'm glad you liked it 😄😉

Cheers Tim. It is a lovely dram.

🤨 keep up Menno 😆😆.
Cheers mate. Yeah that Virgin Oak is one to be reckoned with.
malty mission me too Menno, struggling to keep up with everything but trying my best
Loved this review.
You describe it just like it taste: sugar syrup & honey. Didn’t like this at first but after the bottle settled I changed my mind.

Cheers Robert. Totally agree mate. And when they're accessible and not overpriced...all the better.
Some great Norn Iron-isms in there mate. Another great review of a truly lovely whisky. Cheers mucker.
😄😄 cheers mate.
Great review 😊
This is a good dram IMO. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is just a bigger dram than even quality pours like Glenfiddich 12.
Cheers Jon.
Appreciate your input mate.
nice one Jim!
Cheers mate.

😄😄 Ralfy is to blame for an awful lot of what I do.
Cheers Paul.

Awesome Chun-Li cap
Cheers.
Such a good all rounder whisky. Often overlooked but it shouldn’t be
Totally agree. Cheers Alan.
Please test 'Limavady' for us. Thanks.
Alongside Bunna&Kilkerran 12 this one is great money/quality ratio...
Cheers Kresimir. Totally agree.
I thought this was clearly better than the 18. And $60. It’s pretty special stuff imho.
is it just me or does the deanston 12 taste a lot like craigellachie 13?
