  • Right before he had to play the World Championships in Houston, I played Zhou Qihao in a WTT contender tournament in Slovenia in 2021. As he is currently ranked no. 23 in the world and considered as one of the best players of the Chinese national team, my victory over him is by far the best result I have ever had. Here's how I did it.

    Thanks for watching! Hopefully this can give you somewhat of a view of who I was as a player (even though I have never come near a similar result afterwards).
    I do have to review this format, as I understand that videos of this length are not so accessible/interesting for everyone. This one will probably be the last one of this length, unless it will blow up for some reason.

      @@OlavKTTT oh no that really sucks.. I had my meniscus operated on my right knee and a lot of cartilage damage on my left knee because of some patellar disllocations, but now I'm able to play again since I was always into bodybuilding and my muscles are quite strong (however I lack mobility)
      Were all of your injures TT related? What do you think you would have done differently to try to avoid them or do you think they were all unlucky situations/genetic factors?

    I can't say thank you enough for these videos. I'm an intermediate club table tennis player here in the US and its very hard where I live to get good coaching and insights into higher level tactics and strategy. This video is filled with extremely useful advice that any table tennis player should be taking advantage of. Its awesome what you are doing with your youtube channel. Videos like this are helping players become better and is how the sport can continue to grow around the world. Thanks again and keep it up! Cheers.

    Amazing video Olav! I remember watching this match the day you beat him and it’s interesting to get such a detailed tactical as to how you beat him! Love the content as always man, just think you shouldn’t end your international career just yet. You’re still very young, I’m sure the injuries will soon fade away because you are one of the most talented players I’ve seen in Belgium and you inspired me a lot to become a better player

    Olav, that is quite impressive. Just noticed your channel recently and honestly I like people who like to think about the game, not just those who accept all those general content here on youtube. TT needs more theory and revelation of underlying principles. not only on technique, but tactics and other aspects. This is completely new perspective that many players are not used to. I wish you best luck here on YT. I was trying something similar with my channel but my delivery was too boring for general audience, I guess. Keep up the good work :) Maybe thanks to you, I find motivation to make more videos in the future. Feel free to send me a feedback.

    I also want to add, just from watching the match footage, there are even more points which you didn't specifically touch on but I think also helped you win. One example, the point at 26:07 where you receive his service into his backhand with banana flick is really good. In a tight moment like 14-14 players will always fall back on their strengths and ZQH definitely wants to try to play forehand to start the rally, but you've placed the side so deep into his backhand that, even though he is waiting in backhand corner and WITH pivot, he cannot make the forehand.
    I don't know if this was intentional, but I think it was very brilliant.

    • @OlavKTTT
      @OlavKTTT  9 месяцев назад +1

      Good catch. It wasn't super intentional, since I just would've played in his forehand if I had seen him stepping around. But I suppose there was enough quality/speed on the receive in order for him to not have enough time.

  • @wasiffarhan1329
    @wasiffarhan1329 9 месяцев назад

    Hi Olav. Love your videos! I tried the forehand short push down the line deception the other day and it worked wonders. Definitely added to my arsenal.
    Could you make a video on how much training it takes at the semi pro/pro level please? For example, what level would someone doing quality training 3-4 times a week reach vs 6 times a week vs 2 times a day (6days a week)?

    • @OlavKTTT
      @OlavKTTT  9 месяцев назад +1

      Nice to hear that it works 😊.
      I've been around many players and coaches, and almost everybody has a different philosophy. Some people will never overtrain, others can't get enough. However, when I had the chance (and that was fairly rare) I trained about 18-22 hours a week, excluding service practice and physical practice.

    Very interesting vid. Your analysis was solid and I have no questions or objections.
    What's more curious (for me) is your way of talking about yourself. Perhaps it's meant to humor us viewers but even so, I find it strange that you're so harsh with yourself. 99.9% of the people who watch your vids will never get to play against opponents of this caliber, let alone take a set from them or even win the match outright. You're a very skilled player and should be proud of what you managed to achieve.
    Not all promising juniors are able to deliver good results right away and sometimes the path to the top takes a lot more time and effort than you'd expect. The Lebrun brothers make a great argument against what I just said but at the same time, Michael Jordan, arguably the best basketball player of all time, only won his first championship at the age of 28, despite being a very promising junior himself.
    I don't really know the circumstances behind your career nor am I going to assume anything, but you should remember that you're still young and have a lot of room to learn and improve. Men usually enter their prime in their mid 20s so it's not wise to sell yourself as a has-been just yet. :)
    Regardless of what you choose to do in the future, I wish you best of luck. As long as your mind keeps working for you rather than against you, I'm sure you'll be able to achieve it.

    • @OlavKTTT
      @OlavKTTT  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you, but I've closed that chapter. My body (knees) doesn't allow me to practice fully since a couple of years, so that's why I decided last year to quit pursuing that goal. You see me wearing the knee braces in the match btw.
      Now I just play some matches in Belgian 1st league, practice just as much as I need to maintain a certain level and I enjoy making these videos. It's not what I had in mind all those years, but it's nice nevertheless.

    • @OlavKTTT

      I have worn contacts when I play since I was little, because it just allows me to see freely. Especially if I toss the ball when serving, I feel that glasses annoy me.
