Neal Schon really is a master at creating highly melodic guitar solos. Even though most of his solos always include some flashy licks, you can still pretty much hum them all because of how musical there are. His solo in "Faithfully" is no different.
In this Faithfully guitar solo lesson, I will demonstrate how to play this solo note-for-note just like Neal Schon plays it.
Most of the song is piano based, so I will focus on the outro section of the song which is where all the guitar pyrotechnics begin.
Within this solo, you will have to contend with some large bends. In fact, many of the bends found in Neal Schon's solo in "Faithfully" can be pretty tricky to get just right. You have to really focus on getting your intonation prefect since you will be letting a lot of the bends ring for a long time. It is one thing to do a quick bend in the middle of a lick, it is another to let you sound of the bends just continue to soar.
There is also a quick little pentatonic lick in there which is also a staple of Neal Schon's style.
All-in-all, I think this is a great solo for the intermediate level player and above to learn. Enjoy!
    Carl...

Carl You have no idea how much I warship you man, you are my Mentor for the last 2 years, I'm a left handed guy who plays a right handed guitar😅 more like Albert King. With your mentoring I learned like 10 or 12 songs from you so far, it's your crystal clear explanation that got me here so Far
There's one song I was hoping to learn "The Who won't get Fooled Again " I can tutorials but don't get them and they are not as good as you.
    Love you Man!

Hey Carl - you are a great player/teacher. For us newbees maybe you can mention how you achieve the tone of the guitar by talking about or showing us how your amp settings are set up...thanks.

Great playing, tone, and lesson. Love your "circular" picking technique or so some call it.
Not sure i hear those natural A notes (minor seventh of the song's root) in the descending flurry part of Neal's solo. On the record I hear notes exclusively from B major pentatonic scale--sidestepping A (or A# for that matter)--in the descending lick rather than (F# or modified B) minor pentatonic... I.e. I'm hearing the G# (fret 13 string 3) instead of A.
We definitely hear a couple As/"minor sevenths" thrown in, probly from the piano, within the same song section... interesting as around 3:33 of the song Neal does throw in a lick including the 7th degree of the B scale and plays the major/A# while the piano plays the minor/A (fourth degree of the underlying IV/E chord... suggesting E major while Neal's note would "suggest" E lydian)..
