Glad you enjoyed. In a future video I will show how you can do this with two colors, one on each side. A little bit more complicated, but very fun! I'm thinking I may want to do a two color scarf with this stitch. Let me know what fun projects you do with this double stitch. Happy knitting!
I thought you could only do this with two strands (I can't wait to try that way). However, so happy to see you do this with one strand of yarn. Thank you so much! Sure appreciate you!!!
Yes, it is really fun as well to do with two colors, which I will eventually show a video on. It's a bit more complicated. The one color, single strand is so easy, I thought we'd start with this.
That’s an excellent question and I actually have another video that specifically instructs how to do this with two colors. You can view that video with this link. Double Knitting: In the round and how to cast on ruclips.net/video/ZQPeBkZm9iE/видео.html
I have a few videos on hats which includes how to do the brim of the hat. This one is for a basic hat that gives full instructions Basic Beanie Hat: Full instructions on how to knit a hat for absolute beginners. ruclips.net/video/7HAI50qrkrE/видео.html
If you are doing the double knitting for a brim of a hat, when you are done knitting the brim in the double knitting, you will then do one round of Knit two together stitches to reduce the stitches in half. Then you will proceed with the rest of the hat according to whatever hat pattern you are following.
Thanks for reaching out. You will want to follow the techniques shown in this video: ruclips.net/video/7BsSu_wcvHA/видео.html Even though you are working with only one color, the same technique applies. With one color and one strand of yarn, you still are working with a pair of stitches. The first a knit stitch that is facing you, and your next stitch which you are slipping will be the knit stitch on the opposite side of the fabric which is now facing you as a purl stitch. So for decreases you would first rearrange the stitches for your next two pairs -- so two knit stitches are together and then the two purl stiches are together (the two stitches that will be the knit stitches on the other side). Then you knit the first two together (or do a SSK) and then your purl the next two together (or a SSP). You would also apply the same technique in this video for increases: first picking up a stitch on the front side of your fabric and then picking up a stitch on the back side of your fabric. I hope that helps! Happy knitting.
@jacqknits Thank you, but does this also work with straights? The the video you tagged is in the round and with circular needles. I unfortunately do not have circulars
Help! I am nearly done my scarf with this beautiful stitch and I had to backtrack because I lost a stitch 5 rows back… and now I can’t figure out how to put the needles back on!
Oh no, that is frustrating indeed. Just remember that with this stitch you have a layer of stiches on the front side and a layer of stitches on the back side. So carefully place them back on your needle making sure you pick up the first stitch on the front side and then right next to that will be the stitch that is on the back side. Then alternately pick up a stitch from the front and the back till all have been picked up. You may want to search in RUclips for "putting stitches back on knitting needles" to help you know what orientation you want to place them back on the needle so they aren't twisted. Be sure to count your stitches when done to be sure you have the same number that you casted on. Good luck!
Thanks for your comment. Yes you could knit a hat with this stitch. Remember though that you are knitting both sides of the hat at the same time, so there needs to be twice as many stitches on your needles than what the pattern would call for. I would do some swatches first and check your guage to help you determine the correct number of stitches to cast on for a comfortably fit hat. I would start by finding a basic hat pattern then doubling the number of stitches it says to cast on, then see if that is the correct size. This stitch tends to be a bit tighter than other stitches, so again, check your guage first. Happy knitting!
thank you. this looks very easy and will be a big help for my winter wears.

Great video, thanks
Thank you Brenda. It really is a fun stitch to do. Happy knitting!!
Forgive this very novice knitter question: can this be knitted with different colors for each side?
That’s an excellent question and I actually have another video that specifically instructs how to do this with two colors. You can view that video with this link.

Beautiful tutorial. But how do you increase and decrease with this stitch?

Yes, the same applies to working with straight needles.

Can you tell I’m a newbie? Haha

@@jacqknits thank you very much for your details l got it.
What would you do if you only wanted the double for the brim, but single for the body of the hat? Would you decrease stitches?
