Great video. I’m planning to breed French angoras and i ran into this video. The rabbit I want most is probably a Japanese harlequin. They are so cute.
@@IB_Homestead_Committee I am trying two blue bunnies both with excellent parents and the daddy buck passed away a few weeks ago (who I was planning to pair my doe with). I'm hoping that I'll get some of those awesome characteristics, but after watching this video I'm thinking the percentages are much closer with this type of breeding more like 85-90 percent. And if I do get an amazing outcome I plan to then outcross with some new genes after that as well.
I'm almost ready to start breeding my own rabbits. Have 10 holes set up. How many unrelated rabbits do you need to start with to keep a system genetically separate enough? I really want to keep the "backyard inbred mutt breeder" to a minimum.
I would start with four unrelated rabbits. Two males and two females. Then you can work on those lines indefinitely as long as you are keeping good records and start with good stock. What breed are you looking at? Are you just doing meat or show and pets as well?
I love the breed of rabbit you are carrying in this VIDEO

Thank you! Harlequins are so pretty but that pattern is so hard to perfect
@IB_Homestead_Committee I'm working on my perfect lines in my harlequin breed still after 2 litter lol

Yes! There is so much and its crazy how deep you can get into it
thank u for the info
Thank you for watching 😁
I know it's been a while since you posted this. My question is how do you breed of an ear flop???? Thanks much
Ear flop can be genetic or heat related
hello, if i breed my g4 to g1 will i get 100% on g5? thank you in advance 😊
You will never get back to 100%. You will get close but not fully 100
Do you have any experience with inbreeding? Brother from 1 litter and sister from another litter but same parents?
@@KatWest20 I have done half sibling and full sibling pairings

I’m gonna watch this a couple of times cause I plan on line breeding my 2 pairs
Just remember with line breeding you need to be ok with culling and removing bad stock from your lines. I cant wait to see those babies 🥰
@@IB_Homestead_Committee I will sell less quality ones for pets.
@@BlessedWithPets you should get them neutered or spayed because you don’t want them to be rebred
