The relationship between Lauri Volpi and Maria Callas has always been very good, Lauri Volpi who was a very considered writer besides a great singer many times wrote articles on newspaper defending and supporting the young Maria Callas. It was a real pity the age difference between them since the Lauri Volpi of 1930 and Maria Callas of 1950 would have been the perfect duo for belcanto reinassence. Their affinity is that both of them were exponent of early 1800 singing style living in XX century As far as I know besides the Trovatore in Naples in 1951 they sung together also I Puritani in Rome in1952, Lucia in Florence in 1953, and another Trovatore in Rome in 1953 , unfortunately till now no recording of those performances is available.
Such intensity we may never the likes of again. It must have been a thrill for the young Callas to sing with Lauri-Volpi. She did have some problems in joining up the middle range with the lower and vice versa, mainly in the beginning of the aria. But this is a minor point compared to the extra-special excitement the two generated here.
how come there 's no footage of callas singing on stage in an opera?? only recitals! It's such a shame noone thought about capturing her tremendous performances
There are at least a couple different Tosca performances that were filmed. One in Covet Garden and one in Paris. Look for them, they're definitely on RUclips.

His delivery of the Di Quella Pira was a commendable effort, not without an element of excitement, but while the culminating top tone was true to the pitch it was not achieved without considerable effort. He was happier in the more lyric ''Ah Si Ben Mio''. For the present, Mr. Bjorling would do better to adhere to such parts as Rodolfo in Boheme in which he made his debut. Forcing his voice for dramatic roles will only result in divesting it from its native agreeable timber. There is little use in discussing his acting for it is practically non existent. Nothing more static could be imagined than his attempts as histrionism. It's very possible that Bjorling and Steber were excellent together in the duet, in 1946, but Bjorling was still not 66 years old and your silly but innocent statement managed to ignite my response. As far as I know besides the Trovatore in Naples in 1951 they sung together also I Puritani in Rome in1952, Lucia in Florence in 1953, and another Trovatore in Rome in 1953 , unfortunately till now no recording of those performances is available.
