I’m 66 and catching hell to get gold on the licenses. Use a wheel because of Arthritis. It’s amazing how quick guys on a controller are. Just a B racer who has fun.
The wheel is faster if you can get the hang of it. You have greater control with the wheel.
Just stick at it, you’ll get there.
I would agree. Trying to accelerate while steering and changing gears is impossible.
Also you have no throttle control on joypad.
@@d.tim1989 IDK man, the PS5 Dualsense triggers give decent brake and accelerator feel
@@juaneer The triggers are amazing. But it’s still quite hard to control acceleration and braking round corners.
Using pedals you can hold the brake 1/2 way and the same with the accelerator.
You can hold your speed round long turns easier.
Also the steering is a lot more accurate.
I just started gt7 with controller, i really loved it so i got my hands on pedals and a wheel but man it feels like i have to start all over again.
I find it very hard now but today was my first day, hope it gets better.
Also I play in VR, with the controller i had no motion sickness at all and with the wheel and pedals i have.
Im using thousands dollars of wheel set and lost to my 8 years old nephew using the controller.
Because u suck wheel is quicker then controller especially in corners to turn but also u need the skills of the track not just depend on wheel
Lmao damn whipper snappers haha
My son is 8. He’s half a second slower than me and I’ve been playing since GT4 days. Something about them 8 year olds haha
I appreciate this comment. Because I'm seriously contemplating if I should buy a really nice steering wheel.
@@eazybreezye
You ever pull the trigger?
This game is absolutely optimized for a controller, which is understandable as most gamers will play with a controller
The main advantage I think the controller has is the haptic feedback (PS5 only). the feedback on the right trigger lets you know when the rear has grip and when it doesn't. this really gives you considerable advantage on accelerating out of corners. this goes for braking as well. although, like you said, wheel allows for better consistency and tire saving so in the long run, the wheel should win with tire wear and fuel. I think the two are fairly even which makes me happy. I had to put a LOT of practice in GTS to get remotely close to the top wheel players. I'm usually 1-2 seconds off the top 10. but with GT7 I think they playing field is a bit more level. Thanks for the video, good to see a fair comparison!
Haptic feedback is good, but you know steering wheels have force feedback too, right? Some models have direct drive and the most important thing, pedals with load cell technology. But of course, for a controller, this technology is perfect and helps a lot to race against steering wheel players
You can actually get quite a good sense of the rear wheel traction by tuning into and listening to the engine sounds. That has transformed my gameplay experience. In DR2.0 for example i could not manage to control the powerful rear drive cars. I also used to play it a lot when i was tripping my ass off and it hit me, it's all about the sound. Since than, i have stopped spinning out and losing the rear, in all sims.
@RallyRossi u made me laugh tripping playing gt7 lol reminded me when I was playing Mario cart on the snes tripping it was mental, "double dipped strawberries" anyway thanks for the advice I'm gonna try listening to the engine closer from now on
This shows that playing a driving sim with a controller is a cheat. Real cars are also not driven with a controller.
I have been saying this for years .
Gamepad has the advatage of being able to auto correct at the flick of a thumb so you can throw the car around and push the limits a bit higher.
Good point
Played GT5 and GT6 almost exclusively with a Logitech DFGT. Because the old DualShock 3 just had vibration, there really was no feedback from the car, so the wheel was a much better experience than using the DualShock 3.
GT7 on the PS5 with the new controller is a whole new level. The haptic feedback along with vibration tells you exactly what the car is doing. The feedback from the triggers gives me much better feedback than what my G29 gives me. The only thing that can save Logitech is if they put SONY's haptic feedback in pedals. Yeah, a wheel is still immersive and a "realistic" experience, which I love. But the feedback from the car to controller is just amazing.
I ran hot laps at Tsukuba with the Honda Integra. To start off, I ran 12 laps with my G29. Picked up my controller and beat my wheel time by about a tenth of a second on the very first lap.
I'm having a hard time going back to the wheel. I love the controller.
I just love the haptic feedback. Nice little addition to the game
I think the wheel is better for immersion. Personally I enjoy it but if I’m playing online I always use controller.
This is a really good video! Just got my console and I don't have the cash for a wheel at the moment but I want this game because I really love racing. This video gave me a green light (no pun intended) to go ahead and get the game. Big thumbs up!
I think quality of the wheels and what setttings you use make a big difference. I personally use the controller and get gold times pretty easy, but have trouble keeping it consistent.
Motion Steering works great when you get the sensitivity set where you need it. It has a lot more range than flicking sticks.
I think I'm going to give the motion controls a go. Thanks for making this comment. 👍👍👍
Been using motion since the release and I feel it’s the best way to get smooth turns without a wheel.
I will be honest I use the controller with the gold trophies in the license and g29 wheel for the proper races 🏁 👌
Love your channel Btw
Thanks for the comments in this video, was willing to buy but a little afraid of being unplayable with the dualsense
Kontrol freekz aimed at shooters will prpbbaly help with tyre wear on controller, worth looking in to. Can be more smooth with turning but still have benefits of correcting at the flick of a thumb
I've never owned a wheel and I've got all golds on every GT including tourists trophy and I'm sure you can imagine how hard it was getting golds with the Dpad on gt 1 😅I got GT7 today so we will see how I go.
Boosted Media also got a quicker time with the controller around high speed ring and he said he knows that circuit like the back of his hand.
All gold in GT7 by today?
This is exactly one of the reasons that I got out of online racing. I didn't want to invest in a wheel. Because, I was getting older and my priorities started changing. In the early days of online racing, I was one of the top racers online. I used the controller because that's all there was. But, then wheels started coming onto the scene. It changed EVERYTHING! Sure, if the race was 3 laps or less, I would absolutely stripe that ass! No matter what my opponent was using. But, the wheel will always have something the controller will not! That's consistency! And that consistency translates to far superior tire wear. Which, in the long run, will gain the wheel user the advantage in ability to maintain consistent lap times over longer races. The controller, no matter how good you are with it, will fall off after 3 to 7 laps. Severely! You just won't have any chance against someone with a wheel. So, to answer the age old question to the "new guys" wanting to get into online racing. But, can't afford to invest in a wheel too. Don't waste your time or money! It's wheel or no deal. Simple as that. Hope my insight helps you guys make the right decision.
You underestimate how good controller is on gt. Analog will never be good like a wheel sure, because you will never be smooth and it will look like youre flicking the car around which destroys tires, you can even see it in this vid, but the motion steering is very smooth and competitive
@@HanyHabibi97 The controller is better this year, but… there’s input lag when making tighter turns as well as hairpin turns that takes you longer to turn no matter the sensitivity. You used to be able to use the handbrake but they took it out on the update. They want the wheel players to have the extra advantage on top of consistency and tire wear
I played the A-10 license challenge with a wheel and couldn't get gold after more than hundred tries. So frustrating and eventually I deinstalled my wheel and decided to play the challenge with a controller. Took me three tries to get gold. Feel like an idiot now. Much better acceleration, way more stable driving with much less understeering.
Do controller is better mate? I have been playing my whole life on controller. I am playing to get gt7, but not planning to get a wheel? What you think, is it worth it on controller?
@@Atonam_real GT7 is made for controller. Don't buy a wheel if this is the only racing game you play.
@@Ripuli1974 👍
U seriously gonna listen to that 😂😂😂@@Atonam_real
@@SIPRising33 idk bro you tell me
The 6 axis is smoother than any wheel I’ve had.
Did you guys know, the ps5 controller has less input lag compared to steering wheel.
I have been racing on the controller for years and so far GT7 has the best controller handling. I completed all the AI and S Licenses on Gold yesterday, most of them first try like S2, S8 or S9... I even completed the infamous IA-10 (AMG GT-R) or the INSANELY difficult S-10 (917K) on Gold after many tries... most of the time I play in the Sport Mode and can actually keep up. My ranking is B (DR) and S (SR).
But I'm not getting any better than that, I have reached the ceiling of what is possible for me with the controller. I also tried a steering wheel last week, but I can't even come close to my times with the controller. I'm doomed to mediocrity, but I can live with that... the races are still exciting, even if I never win.
How's the steering wheel training now?
the steering wheel as of right now is obviously the best option considering the physics on some of the cars are iffy and incomplete. PS4 dualshock seems a bit more harder to control than the PS5 dualshock but the triggers are different. just in general the MR and FF cars definitely needs some work because the game is aiming to be accessible for all players. right now the players the leaderboards are on wheels.
Look up guys like Calster 25. He regularly puts the pad up towards the top of the leaderboard
Ive always played with a controller since the very first gran Turismo.
I just got a wheel recently and ive found it SOOO much easier to consistently nail the apex, turn in easy and make use of the whole track.
However i dont have the best pedals, and i actually find the throttle control better with the ps5 controller.
Also the Nür is so much harder with force feedback.
With a wheel is very hard to correct your car when you start to loose control
why were u using different camera angles for different inputs?
I came to say this, agreed seems like and unfair test to me, should also show settings and assists for both
A weel is about 1 sec per lap faster on a track within 2 min lap time. Why do u think there is only 1 pro that doesnt use a weel lol
Bro, im on controller, I have a wheel but I find on most tracks I do better on controller, daily race B my time is a 1:39:501, I see your time is 1:42:00 about, not bragging, just saying, I do pretty damn good with controller lol.
I just bought the game and im not tryna spend on a wheel too I just got a MacBook Pro so im happy you said this makes me happy to play it once it downloads
use a stopwatch and compare time between full wheel turns from side to side, and you'l see that the controller will be slower because of the filter (you can reduse it to 7 as max speed on controller, but it still too slow in S turns with fast cars, so you have to slow/brake down more speed to wait for full/max turning.
That's crazy I thought I wasn't able to beat certain licenses and things because I was on controller it's good to know that I don't need a steering wheel on the control is better I also thought the The whale would be smoother than the controller
Tks very informative. So use to controller take me awhile to get very good with wheel. All that amazing new GT7
I got gold on all of my licenses with my controller. I’m actually pretty good at driving. I’m thinking but buying a setup and seeing how good I can actually be
I just bought a PS5. This video saved me spending more money. Thanks!
what settings did you use for the controller vs the wheel? did you have all the helpers turned off? and steering sensitivity on the controller ? i like the video for sure!! im using a controlller on the ps5 and i do pretty good but im struggling on the super license with the indy style car.. cant even get bronze!
The controller seems really over sensitive to me, very jumpy. I’ve never used a wheel. So the wheels aren’t any better, smother with a steering wheel??
I'm having serious trouble getting licensese using a controller and can't afford or use a wheel due to nerve damage to my pedal foot
Think you can brake harder on the wheel pedal set up then you can on the controller so during a race I'm on controller n have to brake earlier then the guys on wheel/pedals. Is there a setting where I can make the braking better on the controller
Why do you use third person camera with a controller, but roof cam with the wheel?
Maybe I should't play the game with a Singstar microphone.... :)
Who cares games amazing 😻
What are ur settings like steering and ffb??:)
Damn... up until now i was using the excuse that i was D because i didn't have a wheel 😂
How is the immersion ( physical, FFB, etc ) with gamepad vs steering wheel??
I’ve just got a fanatic dd pro and I’m awful compared to controller! Did some research and seems it takes a few weeks of practice to learn and get used to a wheel but when you do you are faster across the board. Not but huge amounts but faster none the less. Also saves tire wear etc
I have no excuses now.
Controller : better to use on sharp turns
Wheel : on not so sharp turns
Controller sucks on sharp turns
Shocking indeed but I’m still about to buy a t300
Extenders for the analog make the pad easier
I prefer the steering wheel.
The problem is not the wheel, its the breaking. With the pedals he was not braking good enough
Try this again using the same view with each and see if you get the same results please.
Hi there just a quick question in this controller vs wheel! How did u use the controller i mean did u use the trigger like r2 to acelarate and l2 to brake or did u use the analog sticks to acelarete and brake? I asking u this bc i have no experience on wheels and i only use analogs to drive, bc the triggers u can’t use them so softer than analog?
I did buy GT 7, But as gt spot i bough, compare WRC 10 controller setting, GT series is too bad for controller,
WRC can setting R down to handbrike, L Down to clutch,
Also can set X/Y dead point area to fix turning without touching clutch and L stick problem
O to R gear and L1 to 5 gear (with auto N gear switch)
GT can't set any of this
I use R2 for accelerating and L2 for braking, the haptic feedback gives you instant feedback on tire spin, you can literally feel the abs working on braking
It's insane how good the controller feels its the best controller racing game yet and usually those aren't good with wheels yet this one is. Play with what yoy want both are incredible both are fun yes no other racing game was as fun with a controller to me lol. This gane is just fun the time events make you feel like you are playing for a reason even with controller idk also the ps5 controller teuely improves the fun lol.
It all depends what you have more experience with….
The controller obviously.nah I only wish I could get a fanatec maybe in the future
You will alwyas be able to compete with controller and wheel with practice. The controller on gran turismo will always feel right though.
Congratulations controller is faster
This is weirding me out. It doesn’t make sense.
at times the the steering wheel on the screen doesn't turn all the way when using the controller PS4
Check to make sure the steering sensitivity is correct
Yeah that’s a know issue for making tighter and especially hairpin turns on a controller. It takes longer and you lose time compared to a wheel. You used to be able to tap the handbrake to give you better rotation but they patched it
It is because you use chase cam with controller and hood cam with wheel🤭
I have a PlayStation 4 Pro with the dual shock 4 and honestly I have an easier time on Gt7 vs Gt Sport with the controller, I’d like to check out a PlayStation 5 but they don’t make a Pro version
Pro version will come
Yeah I'm waiting for the pro.I got gt7 today and haven't played it yet so how are you going with it on the pro?
Why is the controller consistently faster than a wheel though? Makes no sense to me, but proven by you.
I don't know if it's the view or just quicker to get into a steering lock. I honestly couldn't understand why I was much slower on the wheel during the time trials.
I think they made it easier on controller players because I do remember in Sport I sucked so bad on controller I went and bought a wheel.
@@dutyrover946 I saw the controller being easier on kie's stream during the drifting license, but assumed it was limited to drifting.
Idk but my theory is that a trigger obviously has less "give" than a actual pedal set meaning that there's a slightly longer delay when a wheel player gets on and off the throttle. Could explain why the controllers corner exit was so much faster.
I think.this proves they made the dualsense controller too OP
1:11 that’s something you want to show to your mom. Someone who does aka the roe mom to watch their race on RUclips.Hey I’m not that bad I think lol
Catching slides on a controller is infinitely easier than a wheel ...
If u want immersion get a wheel ... other than that ps5 controller is perfectly fine !!
im not smashing anything
look into trail breaking
1:15 why are you comparing the two If you have never played on a controller? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's undrivable for me... GT7 has become one of the worst games I've ever played... (except for the rain. The rain physics are good)
sounds like somebody is complaining
