I am from Iowa so I watched this case very closely. The entire department that was called in for these cases is under investigation by higher ups as well. I have the misfortune of knowing too much about the girl who died, knowing people who knew the foster parents...It's so fucked up. I hope all these sick fuckers get life without parole. I would take these babies any day and give them the love they deserve if I could!!!

Deb Stevens we went to family court my mom and grandma offered to take custody but as far as the abuse claim goes it's making it tough because she wants to go with my uncle & he's not fit to take her in even though he's her dad. There aren't any signs of it because he still provides everything to her , i just don't want her to end up in a strangers home if she's lying to go with her dad.

That's so messed up. The cops came to my house and it was the wrong address. My kids had spilled two things in 5 minutes. It was a Sunday night so it was hectic with the school day like always. And I'll be honest my carpet is stained. We moved in when kids were 3 and 5. So yeah it's stained bad. But long story short I pissed off the cops by telling them they had wrong place and that they couldn't come in without a warrant. They forced their way in. I said I was calling my attorney and father. They slammed me against the wall handcuffed me and threw me in a car. They then proceeded to get my 7 yr old out of the bath and these were all men. And made a report to CPS bc of the carpet and bc they scared some cats I rehomed so bad that pooped. So bc of that I sent through hassle with CPS. For a month I couldn't be alone with the kids and finally it ended when o ward forced to see their own counselor bc I was saying I'd see an independent one thank you. The counselor sided with me and said the caseworker completely overreacted. After all the arguing about me seeing her approved counselor and paying for it she couldn't very well deny her recommendations. I had my kids back after 3 weeks. Thank God for my parents who had them and I'm thankful my counselor did the right thing instead of forcing classes on me and making me stay in a never ending loop witk CPS. They closed the case but still said that found signs of neglect. For stained carpet! I will say I was yelling. We yell that's what we do. And a window was open. But the cops that got a call saying a man beating a woman should never have entered my home. They had wrong address. Were looking for an apartment in building f. Im in building b. And they were told a 2nd floor number. Im on the first. And im a single mom. There's no men in my place except my then 9 yo son who I called to the door. That claimed they handcuffed me bc they were afraid I wad going for a weapon when I clearly stated I was calling my father and attorney. And im 5 ft nothing about 95 lbs. These make me sick bc I never lay a hand on my children. Yeah I read kinda mad when one spilled fettuccine and one spilled spaghettios on the carpet in a 5 minute span but that didn't meet the proof of imminent danger.
What's truly sad is both the kids have a fear and distrust of police. They will never trust one not even the one at their schools or one that just says hi. They try to stay behind me and think all cops are trying to take them away. They won't play outside of they see a police pull in that come inside and lock all doors and turn off all lights and TVs. I know what the cops did was wrong and they were 7 and 9 at the time. But they're now 11 and 13 and still I can see the lingering effects of that night. I've tried introducing them to nicer police like some patients but no matter how many good police they meet it won't erase what those men did that night and I really think they're scarred from it. And toy have these pos that get a yr probation. Wtf? Seriously

Natalie went to my school, she would always come to school, and give other kids who were hungry her food, always caring for others and everyone knew something was wrong but her adoptive parents were so persuasive and told social services that she was mentally ill and she was completely fine, until she died and everyone felt so guilty because something could have been done...

I have permanent nerve damage on my left side from my hip down because of being beaten with a 1 inch thick wooden paddle... that was given to my mother by the district attorney in my home town. He had commissioned the high school wood shop to make them, so I'm sure I'm not the only one. This happened to me in 1993. I presented bruises and written statements to my school counselor as well as the DFS lady that came to talk to me and the police officers. It was determined that I was a "problem teen" and my mother was justified. No charges were filed and I was not removed from the home, neither were my 3 younger siblings. It happens. A lot. And most of the time, behind closed doors. We were upper middle class, church going, white folks, my mother was active in the community as well as a Campfire leader. If it can happen in my family, it can happen anywhere.

I have PTSD, but it's under control and I've pretty much moved past it other than the occasional nightmare and the split second reaction to seeing anyone mistreat kids... that has almost gotten me arrested a couple of times lol.

I suffered for 2 years because I didn't want my abuser to know I tried to get away. If someone comes to anyone with allegations of abuse, whether the allegations are true or not, the abuser should not be able to have contact with them EVER. This is so disturbing.

They had to know that the other kids were being abused also because of the video this girl had with one of the other children. Also, she was able to afford that huge house because the 'system' pays outrageous amounts for someone to foster just one child and she had 9 all together. My Dad used to make us punch and kick each other...till one day my Mom got some kind of miracle strength and left him..he would abuse my mom too...he would do other things not appropriate to say on here but we would be hit with a closed fist he burned my back with an iron..and punched my sister in the face and made her nose bleed she was 4. I don't know how he didn't kill any of us and he never been to jail or anything. I ended up getting pregnant young but turned my life around and joined the Army, got a degree, and worked for CPS to help abused kids...and to catch those manipulative parents gave me joy...like I know those tricks to hide injuries my dad was a pro at it..I didn't let anything get passed me. Now I work for another department still helping families but not abused kids anymore. It took me yrs to recover I wouldn't let my ex husband even tell his own kids anything because I would instantly think he would try to hurt the kids in reality he never would but I couldnt get passed it...yrs of therapy made me be able to trust men and let go little by little my control over the kids..but my relationship still failed and I take ownership in my faults...but you can recover from abuse and have a great life.

I was a teen mom who gave my daughter up for and adoption, but stories like this make me get her back 5 days later. I was miserable and couldn't live without her. It seems like people only care about their biological kids. My sweet Destiny actually made my life better and joyous. She's gone in the Air Force and I actually beg her to be more in my life and call more. She's grew up and oved away too fast....

Statistically, way more bio parents abuse and kill their kids than adoptive. Anyone with sperm and an egg can procreate but that doesn't mean they should or are good parenting material. Meanwhile, people that adopt have to go through Social Welfare agent checks, background checks, fingerprinting, etc. etc.so it happens infinitely less.

my mom was put into a adopted family when she was a child, the adoption "father" molested her... my mom called her dad (who was in prison for murdering her natural mother) and told him about it.... on my moms 18th bday they found the adoption father dead of a gun shot to the head sitting in his car. Woops.
for those wondering, when my mom was 9 years old her dad walked into the room and was fighting with her mom, he was drunk and had his gun, shot her right in the chest. My mom was sitting right behind her. He got like 25 years and did 9 in prison roughly (as far as i was told). He was deeply involved with the hells angels and apparently he was like the 14th original member of the gang. He was a complete POS. but since he had that guy killed that molested my mom (really the only explanation), I give him a small amount of credit for that. He's dead now too btw. My mom has endured a lifetime of mental illness because of all of this.

This is why homeschooling needs to be randomly checked by CPS. Are they getting a full and accurate education? Are they being forced to work? Are they being controlled? I don't want to homeschool because of the pressure, but CPS and the school districts need to be more involved with homeschooled students in their areas.
CPS already do that here in the UK. I don't know if you're speaking about America though, to be fair, so I can't speak for all the different states there.
It depends on the state! Some states are extremely strict with homeschooling. Some dont really have requirements at all. I dont think the school system needs to be involved in home schooled children lives, thats why they are home schooled in the first place. However, I think the USA should have the same regulations nation wide. When I home schooled all i had to do was keep a log of 1000 class hours a year and keep sample work JUST IN CASE. I didnt have to turn anything in or report to anybody BUT I was subject to drop ins by the state at anytime IF they had legit complaints. I honestly think ALL states should have to turn in class schedules and sample work monthly to make sure that children are getting an education.
The comments here regarding homeschooling are downright frightening. I've gone to public school with so many kids who were abused and eventually became drug addicts so public school did not save them. I even went to school with a girl whose family sent her away after her own biological father got her pregnant! In researching homeschool protocol in my area, I've met a group of wonderfully caring parents and guardians who are not religious zealots at all and most have post secondary education. There are crazies in all walks of life and to suggest that someone is harming their child just off the simple fact that they homeschool is frightening. Most homeschool parents do so because they don't think the curriculum in their area is good enough or they don't agree with common core. Some of the most thoughtful, intelligent, well behaved children I've met are or have berm homeschooled and the stigma against it is disturbing. Anyone who thinks parents should be randomly visited because of a few bad eggs needs their head examined. Homeschool families are in the minority and there are far more kids being abuses than there are kids being homeschooled.
Yeah - I'll say, these comments are not only disturbing - but they are completely *uneduçated on the realities and outcomes of home educated children.
The majority of children being abused and murdered are in the mainstream education setting....and hate to point out the obvious - but overwhelmingly children within the welfare system.
Over the last 24 yrs I have raised my 5 unschooled kids in our local home ed community, interestingly it was founded by teachers that taught me at school, and seeing the huge faults with institutionalized education refused to subject their own children to it. Only one out of the hundreds of families within our group home educate for "religious" reasons - I think that whole "only religious freaks home educate" mantra is completely blown out of proportion.
Another interesting fact is that universities are actively seeking out previously home educated students - because they think differently.
See our children are out and actively involved in their education's and within their wider communities on a daily basis - on account of *not being trapped in the unnatural setting of a classroom.
If a teacher needs a degree to teach in a school then so should a parent before they are able to home school I bet a lot of kids would be sent to school

There needs to be specialized SWAT team operations to help kids stuck in situations like this. Like if a kid says there's abuse going, organize a surveillance team to spy on the house and collect evidence and then get them out of there asap

I dont understand how this happens time and time again with people who foster/adopt kids.
Surely they want to BETTER the kids lives, why make them worse than they already are! Don't the state check on them periodically to check how they're getting on and adapting to their new environments?
I also don't get how whenever they show photos of the kids in the media, they always look OK, then you find out this stuff is happening? I guess it doesn't happen right away but gradually over time.

Well, Foster parents get a check for the kids... so my guess is a lot of them do it for the money.

I'm curious how the hell they were able to adopt them. Going through the adoption process is a long and strict one, so the people looking into the family and process did a lousy job. Breaks my heart these children live in these conditions.

My step dad did that to me..I couldn't do it..so we got beat together..the next day I went to the counselor at our school... even after my mom said that I would be hurting my siblings I did ..we got away thanks to my teachers..

🤮🥺 I homeschooled one of my two sons I adopted to give him a better jump on catching up on years of catch up school work. I can’t imagine what his future would look like if that option wasn’t available to us. It makes me SICK SICK SICK to see monsters abusing such an amazing resource that way!!!🤬🤬🤬 My boy is now 16, one year behind in school, and thriving emotionally, educationally, spiritually... my life is FOR my 5 children. Not my children are my life. I hope these monsters rot in prison for the lifetime of memories they caused these kids. I hope the kids thrive in spite of them!!!
This can't be the end of this story. H&W needs to show up unannounced once a week for an inspection. This "person" is a sadistic abuser who will not stop but will instead change HOW she does it so it's well hidden from on-lookers. This story REALLY bothers me and cannot be forgotten or glossed over. This is why I don't trust nobody because there's no justice no matter where you go. I don't understand why they basically gave her a slap on the wrist for what she did. This is complete bullshit and I know its sad to say this but they're not going to be sorry until one of the children dies in her care then it would be to late. I hate anything dealing with the law because they don't care about us until one of us dies and that's fact.

I think parents that home school should be monitored in some way. Someone should come to the house and make sure they had space to learn and had all the things they would need. After that there should be a welfare check on homeschooled children at least twice a year because abusive parents will often hide behind homeschooling to cover up the abuse. Or they simply don't teach the kids at all. I was homeschooled in the mid 90's and all I remember was my mother being sent books etc and she would have to mail in certain things like tests otherwise they took her word for the assignment grades. She could've homeschooled us our whole childhood and given us badass GPAs so we could get into good colleges but we only did it one year because all of my siblings were being bullied by the entire school, including teachers, for being outsiders. Hell the whole town wasn't happy we were there! What do you guys think? Would the government be overstepping their bounds by visiting a home for wellness and educational checkups? I'm curious what others think about the whole homeschooling thing.

Definitely overstepping. Government already regulates homeschooling, every year I was homeschooled I had to go to a meeting with the homeschooling director, that's more than enough interference.
On average, home schooled kids excel way more than other kids in every subject.
Heather Hornung but if u have nothing to hide why would u care about a wellness check? Kids that go to school have reviews with parents at parent/teacher nights(i think it should b compulsory for parents to attend these aswell btw)
