These characters existed in their own comedy before the show they had to clean up the language and changed David Lander's character's name to Squiggman for the show
What year is this supposed to be taking place, exactly? Lenny and Squiggy are obviously mid-1960s caricatures, but the background players aren't even trying. They all look like they're from 1980. This sort of sloppy inattention to period detail was typical of both LAVERNE & SHIRLEY and late-period HAPPY DAYS.
Those two were the only reason I would watch Laverne and Shirley.
Man as a kid watching this show, I never knew how under appreciated Lenny and Squiggy were.
I only regret not appreciating the comic brilliance of Lenny and Squiggy when I originally watched the show as a kid.
