  • The honeymoon is over and it's time to be honest. I've milled miles of boards and timbers with the Woodland Mills hm126 portable sawmill (14hp) and I think this could be love. In this video I describe some of the gotchas and bugs that come with a tool like this and how we've worked around them. I'll also tell you what it costs for my exact setup today.
    From Repairs, to Modifications, to Just-plain-good-ideas, I'll walk you through my experience with this mill and the company that builds it.

    I just received my HM126 last week (I'm beyond exited to try this out in northern Minnesota!). I had decided to buy the extended trailer (I think I will be able to saw 16 ft boards) so I will be very portable. Let me tell you! It was very involved assembling the trailer that is also part of the rail that the saw head rides on. I'm not complaining, in fact it was a challenging endeavor which I welcomed. One has to be very precise to have everything perfectly square! I ended up short 8 critical bolts and called customer service (honest error). They were embarrassed and very apologetic. They are sending 12 bolts and a free hat! I didn't catch the great informative gentleman behind Deep Roots Family Homest, but he is right! Everyone I have talked to at Woodland Mills is very kind and informative. My forest is mostly tamarack (larch) and I'm curious how well this mill will go through it (it's a very hard conifer). I ended up with the trailer package, larger Kohler motor, a couple cant hooks, manual winch/log roller bars, saw sharpener, tooth setter, lap siding attachment, part kit, and 10 blades. My cost was just about $9,400. Timber frame cabin coming up!

    Greatly appreciate your insight . I've had my 130max for a few years but due to illness wasn't able to use it much until now . At 64 I'm starting late and I'm loving it. Again , much thanks ,

      My only regret in the 126 was that is wasn't a 130. I'm glad you're making sawdust now! I just rolled 400 hrs. Maybe we need another video?

    Thanks for the great review! I have been looking at sawmills for a couple years, deciding what size and which brand to buy when I retire and have time to use it. I recently bought a Woodland Mills WC88 chipper and while I haven’t put much time on it yet, I’m extremely pleased with how it has worked so far. I totally agree with your comment about the excellent service - I was able to pick my chipper up at their main site (I live in Ontario, Canada) and had excellent service from every employee I spoke with from the lady who processed my order, to another extremely knowledgeable sales person, to the shipping folks. I also spoke with one of the owners (Josh, who does their promo videos) - very friendly and approachable guy, and being a fellow engineer, we had a great chat. I was probing to see if they might be working on power lift/feed and maybe a de-barker… all I got was “we always have projects on the go” LOL! (I did get a sense that power lift may be coming as an accessory).
    I’m curious as to why you need to hold the throttle to start the engine. Those engines should start cold on choke alone, and should start warm with no choke and no throttle. Might it need a carb adjustment (a bit richer on the low speed screw)?

    • @DeepRootsFamilyHomestead
      @DeepRootsFamilyHomestead  2 года назад

      Hey Dave,
      We have loved this mill. I thought the manual said to hold the throttle. Maybe i'll look at that again. You might also like our video on "How many 2x4s are in this log?"
      Have a great one!

    • @lectro88
      @lectro88 Год назад

      For starting with choke it's called EPA or the equivalent in Canada.
      And how slow the engine needs to idle to not be dinging and ringing sound that the clutch sounds off just as it's starting to engage.
      If you hear that and you don't reduce the idle speed you will be replacing a clutch early.
      Probably not a low speed screw like the old days of mixture adjustment, they have been trying to hard wire that in all engines where even mechanics cant alter and I'm talking 20+ years that I have wrenched on small motors.
      the adjustment screw that you "can" adjust is the butterfly throttle plate or plain idle screw.
