  • That is the Biggest log I have cut so far on my 13hp homemade band sawmill. Luckily I recently build the log lifter system and did not have any struggle getting the log on the sawmill bed. You can see how I build the log lifter for the sawmill in my previous video. Enjoy the video, like and subscribe to support my channel.

Great log for sawing. Do yourself a favor and place your stickers about 16 inches apart. That will cut down on the warping boards. I learned this the hard way!

Nice job Paul. Great saw mill. Just one quick suggestion that your probably aware of but I noticed that you turned it around so the small end was facing the blade so you know the min size boards you can cut. On a log with a significant difference in diameter is the 2 ends, if with the initial few cuts, if you get the pith, at both ends, the same height from the trailer bed then you'll get more out your log and won't have as much run off from the grain too. Hope that makes sense. Keep up the good work

FYI - from the WD-40 website "WD-40 Multi-Use Product is not really a lubricant. The product’s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.."
So you should use something else to lubricate your bearings.

Can you show us how your sawmill works. How do you have it move up and down? How do you tighten the blade? What size is your blade? How do you adjust the cutting width? And so on. I like how you tighten your blade. It looks to be the most simplest that I’ve seen so far. I don’t yet see how you raise the blade up and down I could see that it’s connected to something but I don’t know what that is it might be winch, perhaps. I’m in the process of building my own, and I want to minimize the amount of physical labor I use. I like the way that you pulled the logs onto the rig but that’s also physical labor and I’d rather use a winch or just push a button. I also like how you have the stops, but again, I would like that to be less labor. It was very nicely done.

Again we see here why band saws are time and effort wasting inventions for lumber milling. Go swing saw.
Position the log once, never move it again.
Start the motor once, never turn it off.
One walk in each direction, a finished sized board comes off.
Quarter sawn or back sawn -- your choice for any board along the way. I built one myself for up to 6"x6",

Extreme danger! Just think blade coming off the pullies while in motion & finding your neck on its way!
One must avoid such projects if due attention is not given to safety as a priority. This shows how much one cares about his own life, let aside others. 👎👎👎
