  • In this video you'll get a chance to play along with me... this is something most people just don't do enough of (myself included.)
    it's great to work on your blues scales, licks, patterns, and other "book" stuff, but sometimes you need to also work on your ear, time, and your ability to repeat something back that you've heard.
    Enjoy!

    For those of you that asked about a "course" along these lines, I do have something I've created called "Trading Fours - Volume 1" that might be of interest. You can find it at bluesguitarunleashed.com/get-trading-fours-1/

    You're the only instructor on RUclips who provides what's vital--not how to play/improvise, but what to play. Thank you! I'd like to see more like this (A minor pentatonic stuff), even more complex.

    What a great lesson and challenge for us intermediate players to sharpen our musical ear,, learn riffs on the fly, identify melodic themes and rhythm and play along in a jam. One of the few opportunities to do so. What a relief, not a follow the bouncing ball lesson...

    I felt that I had to comment on this video but looking at previous comments, everything’s already been said. This is exactly what what I’ve been looking looking for although I I hadn’t realised. It seems so obvious now, sharing licks and ideas is the natural way to learn. Forty minutes wouldn’t be to long. I suppose we have all tried this while listening to recordings but the “room “ to repeat is vital. I’ll have to try to work out the backing track, at least I know what key it’s in. Thanks so much for posting more of the same would be very welcome, thanks..

    Can you please make the Backing Track available for free also? This is a great exercise.

    • @donf3877
      @donf3877 4 года назад

      When he was playing... that was the backing track. If you want a downloadable backing track... download RealPlayer (it is FREE, the 'paid' upgrade ain't worth it). I just mouse over a video, and a 'download this video' box appears above it (on 10, it's a little tab center top). Click it, and the video is downloaded to my hard drive. This guy is sooooo good, I have a separate subdirectory for all his stuff. And, if all you want is the track, use Microsoft MovieMaker and cut out the beginning if you're using windows (Mac I don't know). I do that, but still keep the original for reference. This is a really great idea. The call and response between two guitar players. The local blues jam I play at sometimes is only once a month. There are so many players that this type of format is used a lot. You need to be able to listen to what the other guy's doing, key off it, and come up with something that FITS. That is a lot harder than just playing all by yourself. And IF you can do it, you'll not only earn the respect of the other players... you be asked to play along a lot. Some of the best times I have is playing with another guy... watching his face when I play something that really gels with what he's doing. And, I know I got the same look on my face when he plays. Then there's always the times you are playing first... and someone ELSE has to try a make his part fit yours. I even record backing tracks playing half the time like he did, then play it back and fit things in. It really makes you think on the fly.
