Professor Faria thank you so much for your free instructional on bjj fanatics and your timeless effort to spread the techniques of grappling. You are a treasure to the grappling community. And, again thank you so much for all you are doing during this pandemic. Much love from my Ohana (family).
Awesome videos! I love the Neil Melanson tutorials because he utilizes principles from other grappling to help achieve submissions. The concept of utilizing discomfort or pain to then set up your game. Awesome stuff!
Bernardo...no joke you have changed my outlook on Jiu Jitsu and made me excited to learn since I have training partners I can drill all these top top level skills coming from THE BEST. Also I have your fundamentals dvd and the Danaher DVD’s now and wow, so amazing! Huge honor for me to say, thank you!!! OSS!
Worth remembering that Neil trains MMA fighters. you might find that nobody wants to roll with you if you adopt too many of Neil's techniques. To be used only with guys who can take it and only if you're willing to take it back too. My coach worked with Neil and said that everything he does causes pain.
He states this outright on his training vids. Making the opponent uncomfortable in order to force scrambles and guard changes is part of pressure passing in grappling, at least from my side of the fence. One of his favorite tricks is grinding his skull against your face.
If you are a competitor you train what you feel is your style. Not rolling with someone who uses pressure too make one feel uncomfortable, hurts your game. If you are competitor and are matched with someone who uses a catch wrestling style pressure then what do you do? I feel it hurts someone's game if you don't roll with different styles. I understand if this person is intentionally trying to hurt people then yes no one will want to roll with you.
The key factor is one's mindset. When I roll, I use this technique. That being said, I do not try to finish it. I usually stop my knee from moving just before it starts to hurt. After asking my partner if he is okay, we both laugh and resume our roll. Catch and jujitsu are not the same. Catch is more akin to "I will cause so much pain, so you will want to give me positions so I can finish." You would not care whether you tapped someone or not if you had a sound ego and the correct mindset. Then you can use whatever technique you like. You will obviously not have any partners if you just drive your knee hard into someone's neck.
Catch, in my opinion, is the most brutal kind of grappling, and it might not be the best when grappling alone. However, I humbly believe that it works better for street fighting or mixed martial arts. The majority of CACC movements can be extremely painful, if desired.
I hit this at a local inter club a year or so ago. The ref missed the tap because he didn't know what the fuck I did and my opponent asked me what it was afterward and described it as it feeling like his neck was going to explode 😅
So dope but I wouldn't wanna roll with someone who plays side control like that lmao my neck would be trashed for a week. Just off that underhook frame ride thing alone it would be a bad time.
I know! I think that of course BJJ is slow to change (leg locks just became a thing a few yrs ago because 100yrs ago the Gracies said attacking the legs is cheap and dirty) and also no one is teaching attacks from cradle except Neil in this dvd as well as his first one Catch Wrestling
@@rudai123 hmmm. That's an interesting thought. I've never tried the cradle against an inverted opponent. I find them in a lot of places and love hitting cradles off a pass
If catch wrestling was worth a shit, we would all be doing catch instead of BJJ. This technique would only work when you're significantly stronger than your opponent
@@roryofarrell1517 its called experience. I've been training BJJ 20 + years. My master is cousins w the gracies. Headlock do not work on legit BJJ fighters.
@@kettlejitsu71 You are missing the point entirely. Not sure what you name dropping has to do with it but since we are on the subject I trained under the Gracies as well. I clearly wasn’t saying anything negative about BJJ but after 20+ years you would think that you would figure out that clearly other combat sports such as wrestling, sambo, and Judo all have there place in the world of grappling. You would be a fool to think you don’t utilize techniques from other disciplines.
@@kettlejitsu71 And another point to you bullshit comment. As a person who trains with Gracies and actually knew the history would realize Helio took an art from Japan and adapted it to fit his body type with technique and leverage. No different than a wrestler taking moves from wrestling and adapting them for jiu jitsu.
I'm a simple man I hear Huge Honor for me and wow that's amazing I click like
Can’t wait to try this in 3 months when I have inevitably forgotten it. Love quarantine -_-
Relic O' Justice dying too bru
REMINDER: hopefully your dojo is back open!
Luckily youtube will most likely still be there lol
Fookin pulled it off boys! 🤣🤣🤣
@@relicojustice2623 I tried it but the guy was able to force out of it with the leg

This Catch wrestling stuff is amazing. Keep it coming!

This is great! Thank you so much!
Bernardo and Neil can you make a video of the leg dexterity drills that Neil used to do back at Hayastan? Would love to have a "two snakes" workout!
Yes! Neil is awesome one of if not the best Catch Wrestling coaches. Great video.
I’d love to see Neil Melanson and Joel Bane do something together

@kmden Rt mma not street.
Can tell that’s true by watching this stuff. All looks terrible to be on the receiving end of.

Love those mats!!!
2 of my favorite chokes to use !!! .
Amazing
Catch and jiu jitsu together are unstoppable.
Always great quality content! Thanks Bernardo!!!!
Love this technique...just subed because of it. Oss
Look like a winner!
ground marshall is amazing, killer techniques
"it's like a choke, a crank, and everything terrible" lol. Nice
Flippin awesome 👍
Is that Mizzou choke also a crank at 4:35?

insane, like it
Bernardo is playing the song of my people here. Just to hear him suffer is all I need to know about how brutal this feels to him.
No one makes Bernardo wince link Neil does :)
the george floyde from cradle, nice, ill add it to may arsenal
I love this guys shit too, scary scary man.
Wow! That's some CRAZY kung fu! Guess I'm gonna have to try it on my wife in the garage! Ha ha! Gym is still closed.

Cradle is great for control but I did not know you can actually get a choke out of it. Thanks for sharing.
Lol, listen to Bernardo in the video when the knee comes in and tell him it’s not a choke..
Are you dumb?
Wish they had friendly roll see the techniques in action and set ups.
Fozzy Bear.....Waka Waka!!
Let'em know Ground Marshall. Darce, neckties, and arm chokes from that position. Real nice technique.
That's pretty much a ninja move

Is that first choke IBJJF legal?
text in your description says 'also choosed as the best athlete of 2015. ' - should be - chosen
Essentially, he was like how can I combine every dick move in the book together and really make it as miserable as possible.
😊
Is this The Godfather of Filth?

I wonder why we don't see more cradles in general in grappling tournaments?

@@rudai123 hmmm. That's an interesting thought. I've never tried the cradle against an inverted opponent. I find them in a lot of places and love hitting cradles off a pass
Modern BJJ focuses on loose passing, guard is the advantage, no pinning.
rudai123 I naturally gravitated to the “inside cradle” due to wrestling and then saw where it lead me. Usually to a good side mount.
is this ibjjf legal? (legit question)
Why wouldn't it be?
Didn't wanna trade positions with Bernado this time.. lol
Nice submission, but bottom guy have one second to make fly trap.
holy crap that looks painfull asf
Neil melanson sees grappling from a different perspective than everbody else. he sees things we don't see.
These are Catch wrestling moves. Quite common if you wrestle enough.
CACC always has a WEE BIT more attitude ....
As a bjj guy I must agree lol
@Ben Chesko .... I come from a Freestyle Wrestling background.... and pain & discomfort is definitely a “technique” 😂
Noooooo Neil! It's Bernardo! He dead, he dead now :(
Wait MIZZOU CHOKE????
Put them to sleep!??!!!?
Neil Melanson looks like a tough dude and knows a lot of grappling but i never seen any mma fighter or grappler pull off anything from his "systems"
I doubt you ever will.
Mma is not bjj. Idky people expect this to work. Bjj is a separate sport and the worst thing you can do is treat them the same
You should look closer then
You ever heard of Kamaru Usman, Dominick Cruz, Gilbert Burns, etc.? 🤔 They're using Melanson's techniques and strategies all the time.
what's it? the zoo choke?
i just wanna leave a comment on youtube Mizzou (Missouri)
