These wedding vendors are ridiculous! My sister had to cancel her wedding during the lockdown, the church was closed and the reception venue, the band we contracted with, refused to refund her, despite them not having a non refundable deposit clause, and being notified months prior to the wedding. Ultimately, we took the manager to court, and he had to return the money to my sister. The judge was appalled by his actions!

Someone tried to pull something like this for my wedding: I wanted to hire a photographer. About a year before the wedding I went to the photographer that took pics for a relative of mine (beautiful album, I don't dispute his work). He said, since he knew me from that event etc, that I would pay a certain price. I get the contract and the price is double what we had verbally agreed on; I hesitate but he says some stuff and I end up signing after having carefully read the contract and gave the deposit. The contract stated I could cancel within 2 weeks of signing. I wasn't thrilled, but I told myself it was going to be worth it. I spoke to my relative and she told me how, truthfully, she wasn't thrilled with the photographer because he hadn't followed instructions , had been rude and if she could go back she wouldn't hire him (she is very non confrontational, and I was a bridesmaid so I know it's not her being a bridezilla. She hadn't spoken up sooner because she hates saying bad things about people). That night I couldn't sleep. We had gone from 1500 to 3000 euros, and I wasn't even guaranteed a good service! I called and cancelled, politely, asking for my deposit back. As per contract, I had sent an offical document cancelling, too. He said he was going to keep some of it for the time I had wasted (350 euros for the 1 hour). I told him that I had cancelled within 1 week (3 days, technically) and that there was no clause saying he could keep the deposit. He insisted I was wrong, and thankfully I had my contract with me and read it to him. He said his assistant wrote the contract wrong. I was getting upset so my now husband took over and said that the photgrapher should have double checked and we aren't responsible for this (alleged) assistant's mistakes, he is. I ended up having a lawyer send a letter to him. It took this guy 3 months, but he gave me my money back. We got a different photographer (recommended by the video guy from my relative's wedding. Both two lovely gentlemen and a delight to work with) and paid 1000 euros for lovely pictures. One third of the price.
Thats so shady! I had something similar happen to me but with an estate agent. I was technically homeless and was looking for a flat to rent. My boyfriend’s mom works as a cleaner for an estate agency, so we decided to go through them. They are known to be dodgy but as I was desperate and the flat was guaranteed without any extensive paperwork so I went through with it. I went into the office and signed the contract for my deposit (it wasn’t the lease). I deposited £1000 and the document we signed stated rent was £1275 a month. Once I’d left, the agent sent me a photo of the document with the numbers crossed out and replaced rent with £1450, because he said his boss had a conversation with the landlord and apparently they demanded more. I was so naive at the time I didn’t try to fight it but they definitely took advantage of my situation.
@@itszenbaby when I first moved to California the rental agent on an apt tried that. I went and stood in their office demanding my first months rent deposit I'd given them at the original price back. Their claim was that rental shortages meant they were getting bids at double the asked for rent...I pointed out our contract, and my deposit. So I wasn't going to pay double, but would get out of their hair if I got my money back in cash. I got it that day. Ripped up the contract and said rent to whomever u want to screw over, not me.

What doesn’t she understand? The signature on the contract is the defendants way of saying, “I agree to this.” To try to enforce an invoice that modifies the contract without a signature is so silly.
This woman is a scammer. She wants to double her money. She moved the date up and she was available. And she had 10 months to have someone else fill the spot like really lady. Now I would understand if she canceled day before day of week ahead a month and she turned down great offers. But 10 months come on
"I guarantee she can't prove it to me!" "I'm going to take a look at what she has to show me." "But I GUARANTEE she's not going to be able to prove it to me!" You Lose. LOL
Interesting to see how someone shows up to court and tries to argue their knowledge of the law as if they are more educated on it than the judge. I love how JJ spends some extra time screaming at her because she refuses to understand how the law actually works. :)
Aren't there also laws which state that an invoice/receipt is not a contract, and nothing stipulated on one is actually enforceable? Where I live there's certainly such a law... and it's pretty common sense too. You can't hold someone to the terms stated on a receipt, which is a document that is produced AFTER money has been paid. A customer is entitled to know ALL terms and conditions of the transaction before paying, not after. You can't just sneak in a no-refund policy on a recipt
I was thinking the same thing. I have not ever heard of an invoice/receipt being considered a contract. Either the Plaintiff doesn't know how contracts actually work or she was trying to pull a scam.
I was a contracts administrator and there’s no such law, some businesses just print that on their receipts, it’s their choice. Receipts however, can be a contract and so can invoices, so long as the adverse party agrees to it. Credit card receipts/invoices are actually contracts between you and the issuer, but rarely the business, it’s based on cardholder agreements. You’d actually be surprised at how many credit card companies will allow you to back out of a purchase. When I worked in cellular, the corporation used to print contracts on receipts, very long receipts, but they were legal and people that tried to fight them would lose. The only thing that’d cancel the contract is grace period, death, or management/customer service discretion, customers would sometimes threaten me and I’d cancel their contract and disconnect services.
Not that I'm aware of. My cousin runs a online clothing store n she puts on the receipts this receipt of sale but a contract agreeing to store policy stating the all money spent is non refundable.
She got a lot of business after this case actually including mine. Outside of her other non-celebrity clients, she worked with Missy Elliott, Viola Davis and Cynthia Bailey to name a few celebrity clients post the court case. She’s amazing at what she does so I wouldn’t let one episode define who she is holistically.

@@johnsmi213 Lol
JJ already knows in advance who’s successful or not in the case-she reads their testimony beforehand. She’s a smart lady and smells BS right away the minute they open their mouths 😂
I’m at work right now and laughed out loud at that part 😂
@@carpediem5343 think you meant papers. She can’t read their testimony if they haven’t testified 😂
So let me get this straight.... she paid 931$ for makeup on a certain date but then wanted to move the wedding up. Then the makeup artist wanted to keep the first deposit and charge her another for the new date? But the bride instead got her money back from PayPal? And the makeup artist is suing for services not rendered?
She's crazy right!
I think PayPal accepted the charge back and took the money from the artist to refund, so she’s arguing for the bride to give it back
@@eerielconstantine5051 that’s basically what the OP said. The money was not for the artist to keep since services weren’t rendered.
@@princessq6067 oh I thought she meant the makeup artist had the money but was suing bc she never did the makeup lol

I love when JJ just says “BYE!“ at the end
Right? "We are finished!!"

😂😂😂
Almost a $1000 for make up is outrageous in itself
Depends on how many people she had to do makeup for. I’m hoping it was for more than just the bride.
For 10 people?
It’s for a weeding so it’s multiple people
more than one person some make up artist charge for travel too
It was for 9 people.
When will people learn that the only way to change a contract is with another contract 🤦🏾♀️
You can also add or delete things on the original contract but it's got to have both party's signatures next to the change.
Everyone who runs a small business needs to take a short course on contract law. 😂
😂😂😂 girl a CONTRACT an invoice Is not the same thing!!!! Redo you CONTRACT😂😂

This was ridiculously unprofessional to say that's it's a non refundable $931.65 and you didn't perform any work. Be very wary of this lady going forward people doing business
I just did business with her a few weeks ago and my makeup was amazing! She’s a professional, provided wonderful service, and is one of the best to ever do it. This was a lesson learned for Alex but she’s definitely had much success since this case.
I agree RellupNorth. TTrue8 states that her business is booming and has clients like Viola Davis and Cynthia Bailey, Missy Elliott. I call BS. That attitude gives scammer vibes.
@@traciegibbs4513 She actually does have celebrity clients. BUT that’s all the more reason not to scam or nickel-and-dime other customers….especially in the defendant’s case. I have never known a make up artist that struggled to get bookings during wedding season. The plaintiff didn’t suffer a loss because the defendant changed her wedding date and it was foolish of her to think that anyone would believe that. She was just being greedy.
If you have a signed contract it doesn’t matter what your INVOICE says. Imagine tryin to tell a JUDGE what a contract & invoice is. She’s very dense. Good grief. Next caaaaaase! Lol

Ive watched so many of these court episodes and I hate this about America that people want to keep their customer's money for doing absolutely nothing
Are you really surprised?
Greed is not a uniquely American thing. I've been to places where people are WAY cheaper and nastier.
Right? So freaking entitled.
i’m not surprised . the uk don’t even like us . they give a nasty look if we say we’re american 💀
I've heard so many things from redditors about how Business Owners seem to have all the power, and employees have so little. I think it twists in their head and that it also applies to clients also.
But seriously, the business rules in America are just really unbelievable. I used to think people were lying, but then as the years and decades go on, you see the same problems from so many thousands of Americans, that you just accept it is true and just pity you guys just trying to earn a living.
That “BYEEEE” even stung me! Love JJ!
Sis, for real. I felt that all over.
The plaintiff has NO business sense! I would never book anyone who has a 100% non refundable policy
Especially for events that take place months or years in advance
I did for a formal birthday party last month and Alex delivered as she always does. Her work is absolutely amazing so I knew I would look fabulous when I booked her and she did not disappoint. With Alex, you’re gonna get the best…period.
That's probably why she won't put it in her actual contract and tried to sneak it into a receipt like it matters any.
@@kaylak8370 She’s updated her contract since this case and now it does say that deposits are transferable.

@@itszenbaby oh how sleazy of them! I hope you managed to get out of there soon, and that you are somewhere nicer now
You stood your ground! Well done.

Interesting to see how someone shows up to court and tries to argue their knowledge of the law as if they are more educated on it than the judge. I love how JJ spends some extra time screaming at her because she refuses to understand how the law actually works. :)
I feel sorry for the defendant, both because she had to deal with that and because of her miscarriage.
Also, you can have a no refund policy on a receipt, it doesn’t supersede an agreement linked to the receipt though.
Not that I'm aware of. My cousin runs a online clothing store n she puts on the receipts this receipt of sale but a contract agreeing to store policy stating the all money spent is non refundable.
She knew dang well that was a receipt! 😂😂 🤦🏽♀️
The defendant’s hair is EVERYTHING 😍😍😍😍😍
