David fulfilled every dream he took up. He got to the top of the tower, just like his mom wanted. He became a legend, just like Maine wanted. He got Lucy to the moon, just like she wanted. But, if you asked all three of them if they were happy with what David had to do, and sacrifice, in order to fulfill those dreams, sadly, not one of them would say yes.

well when he got to the literal top, that was not what his mother meant. Lucy going to the moon was just a consolation, when they were together, she just wanted to be with him like what she said when they were falling, so that's off too. He only fulfilled the being a legend because he was living for others his whole short life.
David died knowing Lucy was safe and alive, and without ever losing control of himself. This is currently my pick for anime of the year. It was something different and special. Every episode hit. Love the characters, with my favorite being David and Rebecca, because he's somewhat more relatable, and Rebecca was there for our guy till the end. Love this show, even though it lefted me completely broken

To be frank he wasn’t really an villain or antagonist. Just a bad guy hired at the end to deal with something that can expose/ruin arasaka. In general arasaka execs is the villains with how much control they have and how they treat ppl.

I don't have the game and hadn't heard of any other characters until Adam Smasher debuted in this episode, suddenly he was everywhere on my timeline and recommendations. That last scene gets me everytime when she smiles remembering David and then when he disappears her sadness comes back in and shows on her face. Safe to say bringing the show and watching the last episode at 2 AM was not the best idea, going to sleep after that ending sucked.
Each time i read that about the entire cyberpunk genre i get more motivated in writing a hopefull cyberpunk story. Imagine this in a corrupted wrold where corporations and greed rule the earth and goverments only serve as a way to contain discontent to reach the true warlords of the earth something arises, something ancient, revenge from the natural world against this machine man with machine hearts that go against the natural empathy and comunity of mankind, strangling his hearts to not feel for the people they opresses, walloing in superiority to negate empathy. A druid arises from the filth of the biggest city to reclaim it armed with a soft power against the cold calculations of the machines I think it could be good
This anime ironically portrays Adam Smasher far more accurately than the game does, in regards to the original tabletop. Because in the tabletop, when Adam Smasher shows up, you’re incredibly lucky to leave with 1 of 5 party members alive.
True. Granted V is supposed to be a legend in his own right. A 1 in a billion guy. V is supposed to be stronger than smasher. If anyone else in the game fought him they'd be instantly wiped out. V not only kills him, but depending on the ending you choose, he does this on his own.

Adam Smasher was Night City's answer to David ignoring every sign that he wasn't as special as he thought. Even as David was squaring up to the machine you could tell that he didn't think Smasher could stack up against him, letting himself get distracted from what everyone else easily identified as the biggest threat in the room. Absolutely poetic how Smasher dismantled everything David had going for himself. With the Sandevistan no longer David's trump card, his strongest attack with ALL his gravity weapons was only able to lower Smasher's arms and make the dude slouch. There was no more running from the truth David was trying to get away from.
By the time he used the gravity weapons though, his goal wasn't to kill Adam Smasher. His goal was to keep Lucy safe. That's probably part of the reason he started laughing at the end there.
Lucy got out, and has a chance for a real life. That's more than most people get in Night City. I'll also give Kiwi a tiny amount of credit, since her last request wasn't "kill Faraday," it was "save Lucy."

The show's director Hiroyuki Imaishi has never done a second season or sequel to anything he's made as far as I know. Man walks in with a story, tells it the coolest way possible, and peaces out. If ya'll haven't seen his 2007 masterpiece Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann you gotta. It's the hypest shit imaginable.

Such a damn good show. Also major props to Studio Trigger & the people from CD Projekt Red that helped them create this absolute banger of an anime. Edit: Adam Smasher is one of the main bad guys in the video game so you do kinda get more, a lot of the locations from the anime are ones you can go to in the game & they just recently added some more stuff from the anime into the game so on the real, the game is definitely worth checking out(especially if you get it on PC 'cause the mods are dope af).

But the last update added things like Rebecca's Shotgun that you can find in a specific place, a side quest that involves the anime (and if you complete it you get David's jacket), the house Lucy and David stay in (the big fancy one after the little time skip) is an actual house you can buy, and iirc you can also meet Falco (I think he might be part of the quest? Not sure as I haven't gotten to it yet.)

I still can’t get this ending out my head. It so tragic but so beautiful and the fact that they used the song that was popular from the game. Made it soo much more better.
I have a lot of sympathy for Kiwi. She was part of a crew she was loyal to and loved, and everyone died and she was nearly killed. Even still she stayed with David only to watch him go down the same road, start to go psycho, and Lucy was murdering anyone who learned about his existence. It was all falling apart, again, and she was going to go down with them unless she found a way out. She still felt badly about it, but it was either burn out with David and Lucy or get out for good and she chose an out.
Also both did value each other more then her. Like if Lucy and David were given an out or could go to the moon, both would have taken it over her life. Sadly, in Nightcity you have to care for yourself and trust no one.
Kiwi wasn’t a hostage in the crew. the only reason Rebecca was around was because of loyalty to David, while Falco had respect for him. Kiwi could’ve just walked away but no, she chose to stab them all in the back for one final paycheck and paid the price for it in the end. (She was a good villain)
David went out like a badass though. On his own terms, without going full psycho. He kept his promises. Literally all of them. The one to his mom about going to the top of Arasaka tower. The one to his ripperdoc about never going to go cyberpsycho, and to Lucy about getting her to the moon. One of the best shows period
There are a lot of Cyberpunk lore videos on RUclips, especially regarding Adam Smasher's backstory. Short version of why Adam isn't Cyberpsycho is because he was already actually psycho back in when he was in his meat body. After he was blown apart by an RPG, Arasaka offered him a full borg conversion (back in the 2020s, remember that this is an alternative timeline compared to IRL) and afterwards Adam fully drank the transhumanist coolaid and believes that the flesh is weak and that humans are worthless meatbags. To summarize he has no humanity left to lose and is fully adjusted to being something more than human.
Thats just typical standardization for homes. V lives in MegaBuilding 10. David is in MegaBuilding 4. You can visit David's place, but the MegaBuilding is closed off.
It is the same one, represents his and V's beginning since you both start at the same place. Then in that swanky apartment they have later on is also in the game, it's the most expensive apartment and signifies that one's reached the top.
Now you all know why so many people got back into the game. After Rebecca and then David got popped people booted up the game to kill Adam Smasher themselves.
There will NOT be a season 2 of her taking on the corps, this is a prequal to the story in the Cyberpunk game (they aren't related, but David is mentioned in the game).
Fun fact: in the game there's a bar called The Afterlife that has drinks named after night city legends, and one is the David Martinez. Also Keanu Reeves but we don't talk about that
@T€RB Cyberpunk is more than a single crew. They could have done new season = new crew, new story. In truth, David's story isn't too extraordinary compared to other events that have or could happen. There's a plethora of lore & material when it comes to the Cyberpunk franchise. Nonetheless, CPDR is on record saying they have no plans to continue the anime, and Trigger isn't known to do more than a season.

V from cyberpunk 2077 finishes the job for them. They added new content that allows you to actually get in touch with Falco and ask what happened to David. He doesn’t give you a straight answer, and basically says don’t come looking for us, but he arranges for the Santo Domingo fixer to pass on David’s yellow jacket as a gift. Eventually V kills Smasher.
In table top game, the video game, and this anime; Adam Smasher is always called in to end the table top game, to end the game, and to end this anime. His stats are high as shit where no player's party could ever reach, in anime hes basically unstoppable not even with quickhack from Lucy, and he is the final boss of the video game too to end the game.
The reason why so many things were brought up and not explained is because this is already set in a heavily explained universe with Cyberpunk 2020, RED, and 2077 explaining a lot of things not explained in this So all the backstory with Adam Smasher that you guys were interested in already exists
They've said that there won't be a season 2 which imo is probably the right choice. Other Cyberpunk shows following totally different people and stories though? I can see that, especially with the success they had here. This series stuck heavily to the content that is from the game, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. However there is a shit ton of other stuff that could be covered based off of Mike Pondsmith's tabletop games
I don't remember the last time an episode have made me want to pause in the middle of it, because I got so nervous and anxious about what would happen. Fantastic show and incredible finale. And they're not making a sequel, to see what happens to Arasaka and smasher you need to play the game.
To be Fair. V Has Been Far More Experience than David Does, Regardless of Lifepath ( A Nomad Tribal Who Can Gun Down Saka, A Well Known Gangster who is reliable, Or an Arasaka Counter Intel Agent who probably is Higher up the Food chain. ).

The reason most of the dangers in the city are still there (Arasaka, Adam Smasher, etc.) Is because this takes place before the game. The game's story deals with these dangers and puts closure to some events in the show (though it doesnt get rid of them entirely). Highly reccomend the game just for the story. Edit: its also confirmed that there wont be a season 2, so all of the stories in this world will be through the next Cyberpunk games
I like how there’s not really a central antagonist in this series. It’s just Night City itself and what it turns people into. David is what happens when you get a good decent kid mixed in the wrong side of town, the least he could do was help someone escape Night City as it claims him. Lucy did truly love him, for he was the only good thing that came into her life. Now she’s going to make sure his sacrifice wasn’t wasted.
arasaka is pretty much the central antagonist though especially when it comes to johnny silverhands storyline and even this anime with how they set up david and his crew
The events of this show take place a few years before Cyberpunk2077 game. It was great watching the show and recognizing all the places in the show from the game. There may or may not be a few characters from the show in the game ;) . If ya'll haven't played the game, then I encourage trying it. It was a little rough when it first came out but, it's a very solid game now.
The unfortunateness of the world of Cyberpunk and Night City. Mike Pondsmith said it himself, "Cyberpunk isn't about saving the world. It's about saving yourself." For the Edgerunners, V, Johnny Siliverhand and everyone else who lives in Night City, they can't save themselves without sacrifices.
This show is placed 1 year before the game. David has his own drink at the Afterlife bar (a thing only given to those cyberpunks that died and became legends)
Fact is Smasher was the character, in Cyberpunk TableTop, DM would send to end the campaign. Thats his function was, no matter how good your character was, all it managed was to get on his radar and be promptly dealt with.

The game still has some flaws (way less than release). Beyond that though, the story and quests are amazing. Adam Smasher is pretty savage in that game. My only gripe, is how we don't see him a bunch, but when you do... oh buddy. I do wish there were more main quest stories, but man, there are like 40-50 gigs from fixers like Wakako (David's fixer for the gig in episode 7, the one who calls Julio a fool) and all of them are solid. Oh, and in the game you don't have to worry about cyber-psychosis from implants.

Truthfully I get why there is so much left in the air about certain things like smasher and other bits of lore and stuff. Alot of this is explained in the game whether through cutscenes or reading it in game.

Edit: Adam Smasher is one of the main bad guys in the video game so you do kinda get more, a lot of the locations from the anime are ones you can go to in the game & they just recently added some more stuff from the anime into the game so on the real, the game is definitely worth checking out(especially if you get it on PC 'cause the mods are dope af).

@@Aevum13th The locations obviously were (as the locations in the anime are literally taken from the game 1x1), and stuff like Adam Smasher were already there. But the last update added things like Rebecca's Shotgun that you can find in a specific place, a side quest that involves the anime (and if you complete it you get David's jacket), the house Lucy and David stay in (the big fancy one after the little time skip) is an actual house you can buy, and iirc you can also meet Falco (I think he might be part of the quest? Not sure as I haven't gotten to it yet.)

I still can’t get this ending out my head. It so tragic but so beautiful and the fact that they used the song that was popular from the game. Made it soo much more better.
I have a lot of sympathy for Kiwi. She was part of a crew she was loyal to and loved, and everyone died and she was nearly killed. Even still she stayed with David only to watch him go down the same road, start to go psycho, and Lucy was murdering anyone who learned about his existence. It was all falling apart, again, and she was going to go down with them unless she found a way out. She still felt badly about it, but it was either burn out with David and Lucy or get out for good and she chose an out.
Also both did value each other more then her. Like if Lucy and David were given an out or could go to the moon, both would have taken it over her life. Sadly, in Nightcity you have to care for yourself and trust no one.
Kiwi wasn’t a hostage in the crew. the only reason Rebecca was around was because of loyalty to David, while Falco had respect for him. Kiwi could’ve just walked away but no, she chose to stab them all in the back for one final paycheck and paid the price for it in the end. (She was a good villain)

David went out like a badass though. On his own terms, without going full psycho. He kept his promises. Literally all of them. The one to his mom about going to the top of Arasaka tower. The one to his ripperdoc about never going to go cyberpsycho, and to Lucy about getting her to the moon. One of the best shows period
There are a lot of Cyberpunk lore videos on RUclips, especially regarding Adam Smasher's backstory. Short version of why Adam isn't Cyberpsycho is because he was already actually psycho back in when he was in his meat body. After he was blown apart by an RPG, Arasaka offered him a full borg conversion (back in the 2020s, remember that this is an alternative timeline compared to IRL) and afterwards Adam fully drank the transhumanist coolaid and believes that the flesh is weak and that humans are worthless meatbags. To summarize he has no humanity left to lose and is fully adjusted to being something more than human.

@T€RB Cyberpunk is more than a single crew. They could have done new season = new crew, new story. In truth, David's story isn't too extraordinary compared to other events that have or could happen. There's a plethora of lore & material when it comes to the Cyberpunk franchise. Nonetheless, CPDR is on record saying they have no plans to continue the anime, and Trigger isn't known to do more than a season.

V from cyberpunk 2077 finishes the job for them. They added new content that allows you to actually get in touch with Falco and ask what happened to David. He doesn’t give you a straight answer, and basically says don’t come looking for us, but he arranges for the Santo Domingo fixer to pass on David’s yellow jacket as a gift. Eventually V kills Smasher.

In table top game, the video game, and this anime; Adam Smasher is always called in to end the table top game, to end the game, and to end this anime. His stats are high as shit where no player's party could ever reach, in anime hes basically unstoppable not even with quickhack from Lucy, and he is the final boss of the video game too to end the game.
The reason why so many things were brought up and not explained is because this is already set in a heavily explained universe with Cyberpunk 2020, RED, and 2077 explaining a lot of things not explained in this

They've said that there won't be a season 2 which imo is probably the right choice. Other Cyberpunk shows following totally different people and stories though? I can see that, especially with the success they had here. This series stuck heavily to the content that is from the game, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. However there is a shit ton of other stuff that could be covered based off of Mike Pondsmith's tabletop games

there isn't much explained in the anime because everything was explained in the game, Adam Smasher is also in the game and they clarify what he is and how he became what he is
The reason most of the dangers in the city are still there (Arasaka, Adam Smasher, etc.) Is because this takes place before the game. The game's story deals with these dangers and puts closure to some events in the show (though it doesnt get rid of them entirely). Highly reccomend the game just for the story.
Edit: its also confirmed that there wont be a season 2, so all of the stories in this world will be through the next Cyberpunk games
I like how there’s not really a central antagonist in this series. It’s just Night City itself and what it turns people into. David is what happens when you get a good decent kid mixed in the wrong side of town, the least he could do was help someone escape Night City as it claims him.
Lucy did truly love him, for he was the only good thing that came into her life. Now she’s going to make sure his sacrifice wasn’t wasted.

The events of this show take place a few years before Cyberpunk2077 game. It was great watching the show and recognizing all the places in the show from the game. There may or may not be a few characters from the show in the game ;) . If ya'll haven't played the game, then I encourage trying it. It was a little rough when it first came out but, it's a very solid game now.
The unfortunateness of the world of Cyberpunk and Night City. Mike Pondsmith said it himself, "Cyberpunk isn't about saving the world. It's about saving yourself." For the Edgerunners, V, Johnny Siliverhand and everyone else who lives in Night City, they can't save themselves without sacrifices.

Fact is Smasher was the character, in Cyberpunk TableTop, DM would send to end the campaign. Thats his function was, no matter how good your character was, all it managed was to get on his radar and be promptly dealt with.

The game still has some flaws (way less than release). Beyond that though, the story and quests are amazing. Adam Smasher is pretty savage in that game. My only gripe, is how we don't see him a bunch, but when you do... oh buddy. I do wish there were more main quest stories, but man, there are like 40-50 gigs from fixers like Wakako (David's fixer for the gig in episode 7, the one who calls Julio a fool) and all of them are solid.
Oh, and in the game you don't have to worry about cyber-psychosis from implants.

Truthfully I get why there is so much left in the air about certain things like smasher and other bits of lore and stuff. Alot of this is explained in the game whether through cutscenes or reading it in game.
Man after this episode Night City suddenly got populated by a whole lot of angry folks looking to hunt Adam Smasher with a shotgun.
I think they'll do a spin-off (possibly with Keanu) with a completely different main character and Lucy is going to be some super famous anonymous hacker for hire.
