People who pay artists have big d!ck energy. Cheers for the support over the years with my work guys! Always happy to help you out! I agree with the point on the home made look for bands starting out can look really good! For me, it shows a point of progression as the years go on for a bands career. I'm not a fan of the recent Deicide cover art - aside from it being AI, its just a very "meh" design for me. They had iconic painted albums covers over the years which have really stood the test of time for a lot of people. If they used this cover as a visual reference point and painted something from it, then that would probably look a lot more interesting to me! It is very Spiral Direct though, now you've said it. The thing with these AI generated images for covers and such, how many people would actually end up wearing them as merch? Some AI artwork can look pretty decent, I won't lie, but for me you can never beat that hand painted touch of someone like Dan Goldsworthy or Eliran Kantor. If a human paints something like they do its impressive, aspirational, there's effort in there from years of working on their craft and its an achievement - if a computer does it it's like "oh...i mean its cool i guess. I'm not that impressed though." because its something a computer can just shart out. For me art is the about the journey, and the destination is a bonus.

The problem with generative AI art for me is that it uses existing art to create something. This means artistic experimentation and mediums...etc. would cease to continue, I'm always a fan of optimising processes, finding cheaper solutions...etc.
But if we all use AI art then the progression of art will literally stop overnight.

As an artist that uses AI sometimes for artwork for singles... these are genuinely just lazy and awful. they have the money to pay artists at their level... When the time comes to release anything physical I hope artists continue to INVEST into their product.

I'm surprised to learn that Manorfest used AI as they had commissioned an artist to product their mech art at the very least up to that final show.

I was really dissapointed when deicide and pestilence did it. They literally could just have used public domain art if they didn’t want to pay an artist

I think the AI got the thumbnail right.

A.I art all looks cookie cutter generic(sameness) and shows flaws under scrutiny plus the next argument will be to accept A.I musicians. The insult of A.I art is that it draws from legitimate human work avoiding compensation.

using ai art is equally as shameful as using ai bass or drums. you'd think underground musicians would know what a struggle being an artist is.

AI image generators are glorified compressors that do predictive collages of the images that they are "trained" on aka stolen. The ethical problem is that big companies (midjourney, Openai etc.) are profiting off of actual human individuals without any compensation and is actively competing against them.
Turning your back on fellow creators in favor of big tech companies is the least metal thing you can do.
I think with AI music generators doing basically the same thing now, maybe metal musicians will understand the problem now that it affects them too.

As an artist halfway through an ultimately pretty useless humanities degree, I think I'll just accept I'm out of all job prospects at this point. Catch me living in a skip in 5 years

AI generated art lacks the personal touch and emotional depth that comes with being created by a human artist. I'd rather pay someone where I know the money has gone to good use and not some code that comes up with a guitarist with twelve fingers, or gaping teeth.
