    • @BobaDavis
      @BobaDavis 10 месяцев назад +36

      True but the first time is usually blown off as an "accident". People that are abusers become very proficient in the art of gaslighting - even more is that they are very good at picking their "target". Almost all of us endure somewhat abusive and exploitive relationships today so it shouldn't seem that strange to you that we can easily pass that tolerance mechanic into other abusive situations.

    • @MajICReiki
      @MajICReiki 10 месяцев назад +12

      @BobaDavis true. What pathological covert abusers lack in genuine empathy, care, kindness, they compensate with expert skills in emotional and mental and physical manipulation.

    • @BobaDavis
      @BobaDavis 10 месяцев назад +18

      @@MajICReiki I knew a guy in an abusive relationship with a woman and her "see what you made me do?" mechanic was Crying, he would always focus on that part, as if the verbal berating and hitting was irrelevant.

    • @MajICReiki
      @MajICReiki 10 месяцев назад +7

      @BobaDavis a lot of people can be confused by actions like that, men and women who abuse absolutely mimic normal behaviors. Being able to genuinely distinguish when it is manipulative or sincere, requires a graduation in social and emotional IQ and not conflating the behaviors with overall intent. Bad people often don't see themselves as bad people. The Ego is evolved for self preservation which includes cognitive dissonance to incongruity in one's beliefs about themselves and their cognitive biases justifying even horrific actions. A sound ego is capable of self reflection with acknowledging and creating changes to behaviors. Unstable egos remain in delusions of biases, that keep them stuck as abuser, or enabler, or victim. That relational power structure defined as toxic codependency, is a con on the self.
      It can be really difficult to see the full dynamic when in it. The skilled believable lies of abusers keep their mark unsure about their true values vs spoken values that are fake. The smoke screen clears once the victim begins to clearly connect the lies and actions, and sees a way out, or the need to create a way towards freedom from being the hostage to a disingenuous harmful relationship. Getting out is then a product of circumstances and willpower, which can be a whole other level of risk to one's right to life.
      Being emotionally enslaved to an abusers sob stories is an internal struggle. Being physically enslaved financially, to physical threat to self, children, others, pets and property, is the external battle.
      Clear vision between another's words vs actions, can be as basic as seeing that their empty apologies are more influential/believable than the denial functioning in allowing repeated offenses, even though it is not a simple exercise in critical thinking.

    I can’t even count how many times my ex was arrested for DV. I’m 5’4 120 pounds he was 6’5 279 pounds I had no chance. Every call was dismissed, every court case he was slapped on the wrist n told to do anger management classes which he never completed. The time before the last I told that cop if they didn’t keep him, the next time they came to my house they would find my body. Sure enough 4 days later he flips out over a corn dog (yes a corn dog) leaves, comes back 6 hours later smashed drunk. I was 38 weeks pregnant and after he started hitting me that night I tried to leave, all I really remember was calling 911 but he ripped the phone cord out the wall then took out his pocketknife and started stabbing me.
    I woke up 3 weeks later in ICU no longer pregnant with my jaw wired shut (he broke lots of bones in my face) stabbed me 17 times, slit my throat and was choking me when the cops busted the door down.
    That same cop was the one who arrested him and he only got 8 years for 2 counts of attempted murder, wire tapping, false imprisonment…the charges went on n on. Then, while he was in prison would make deals w inmates (his dad was rich n put tons of $ on his books) these inmates would find me, harass me, it went on n on n on.
    I finally had to leave my son with a relative in a different state, then I left to live in a different state w friends n family for 4 years. After I came back home and got my son his dad hired a PI to find me and the harassment started all over again. PD did nothing, the prison system did nothing, the only reason I’m still here is soon after he got out of prison he overdosed and died, but he would of been after me until the very end. It’s a nightmare. I’m glad she got out, I just hope she remains safe when he’s free. 😢

      Truth is that people need HELP to leave. It's not as easy as just finding "courage" as if it's some mind over matter thing. Usually, some sort of financial obstacle is often the biggest barrier. Or, perhaps these DV victims may have children which unfortunately ties them to the trash crap abuser often at least until the kid(s) are adults. Of course, how about people just don't go carelessly screwing around with trash crap like that guy in this video who is hopefully staying in jail! Too bad he wasn't caught sooner! It's as if the DV victim needs to have cameras on at all times to catch evidence.

    Those teenage girls are literal heros. I had something similar happen to me about a decade ago and I called out for help when I saw a couple walking down the street. It was the middle of the day and they were pushing a baby stroller. My abuser wasn’t allowing me to leave my house and when he realized what I was doing he grabbed my hair and slammed my head into the window before dragging me back inside. This couple stood there watching me and did absolutely nothing; they didn’t even call the police to check on me. I eventually did send him to jail but he only got a sentence of a few months since there were no witnesses willing to come forward.

    She had her way out when he told her to leave...she should have left and gone to her parent's home. When he told her to return upstairs I knew she was in trouble. He's a douchebag bully. My husband would abuse me but he could never fight back against a man...both my uncles and my father beat the crap out of him when they saw me with bruises (I told them), and not once did he throw a punch. He left the house and tried to return a year later by breaking into my apartment but SURPRISE I was with my boyfriend. He got beat by my boyfriend and I beat him with a bat...He never bothered me again. There were several reasons I did not leave 1. I thought if I treated him nicer he would change, 2. I thought if I were a better wife he would be a better husband...here's the problem narcissistic bullies DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU - they only care about themselves.

    First they fuck up your mind, then they fuck up your body.
    They use terror and love in a cycle meant to confuse you and make it very hard to see up from down.
    His excuses and pleadings always left me feeling bad for him, and i thought i owed him another chance. Until i finally ended up at a women's shelter. In group therapy, i listened to horrific stories of other women in their abusive relationships. One got choked against the wall, but just like me, she thought he deserved another chance. Her thinking was as messed up as mine, but it was so much clearer to me in her story than in my own, that it was crazy for her to go back.
    I slowly began to see that all of us women had the same story, we kept falling for their lie that they loved us.
    And we kept going back to the familiar, because it was better than the women's shelter or anywhere else, and we kept thinking he would change. We believed like a cult member believes.
    I finally committed to myself that no matter what he said or did, i was going to walk away, toward the dark scary road ahead. And i made it. And it really wasn't so scary after all. It was so much better!

      Are you suggesting that most age gap relationships are abusive? Or if not most, that abuse is statistically higher in them than in other relationships?

    Well done news report. I’m curious why no one in the victim’s apt bldg called 911, yet the screaming victim could be heard outside? I find it very strange that an attorney would sob in court; it’s not as if she had two years before trial to get to know him, and what educated woman would sob for a POS that batters the woman he (supposedly) loves? And obviously, you don’t have to pass the bar to know not to fraternize with jurors after the fact. I’m shocked the boss would even defend her behavior.

    The worst part is when his friends laugh at us for being "triggered" or "ungrateful."
    My dad was like this. And there's a lot of long-term effects to it. They put in a lot of effort to keep someone from being their own person.
    And we're usually punished for expressing our own emotions. We're not allowed to cry. Even with all the pain and stress that happened.

    Some will never know the trauma of fight or flight, being told to leave your apartment isn’t easy. It’s easy to say she could have left, but if you have never been in an abusive relationship you can’t say how someone should or shouldn’t respond. I thank her for sharing!

    Thank you for being brave enough to tell your story.. I am a survivor of domestic violence & abuse myself & did not have a good outcome with the courts because I didn’t have enough money for a good lawyer or get enough admissible evidence & part of me was filled with fear of him killing me or destroying my career, good name, & hurting my family & dropping my pets off the side of a road like he said. & I haven’t been able to get back on my feet going through intense C-PTSD from the physical abuse & suffocations & fear he instilled in me & he took EVERYTHING from me & continued to use the legal system to abuse me for 2 more years. I would LOVE to have just spoken my truth from the beginning & stood up for myself & had him face the consequences of his actions but he made me believe that no one would believe me & that he had more money & connections in our career field that he could destroy me & then he’d show me he could take me to the brink of death again & again & he had full control. But I also loved him & he’d shift in & out of these modes like he was possessed & other times he was loving & kind & all the things you could want in a partner & it all just keeps you spinning around in a tornado of his making & you’d see in the center was a black hole of a person who had no empathy, love, & at times humanity but you’d only see that for a second before he spit you back out into the chaos. Sometimes he’d play the role of storm shelter & make you feel safe & cared for before he’d maniacally laugh &swing the doors open to be sucked right back up. But since he was the only one providing safety at alllll, you begin to be forced to rely on him for your only moments of relief from the situation..
    I truly hope you continue to grow, heal, & thrive & eventually that monster will hold no power over you. Hopefully justice & speaking the truth has begun that process & I hope one day I can get justice & get my voice back as well. I just hope we can find a way to stop this from happening FOREVER. & I think with technology watching us going forward, we will have safety in that because only those who can hide can be evil. Exposure is their worst fear. & YOU MADE HIM FACE HIMSELF.. I am sooo inspired & have hope that the more people like you can be unashamed of being abused the more people will begin to understand.
    & screw people who tell us “why didn’t we leave?” Cause in leaving you are 10x more likely to die, cause they do everything they can to force you to be dependent on them like being involved with work with them, cause they threaten everything they know they can in your life & that they have shown you they can follow through with those threats, because usually you have a sick kind of love there still because they are soooooooo goooooood at manipulation & also truthfully they suffer sooooo deeply it’s unreal but empathy means weakness to them so it’s better not to go there but it’s hard as a good person not to have it or believe love can change a person who can not accept any of it, & because usually they have money/financial holds over their victims & power that goes beyond the physical to actually hurt your life with. They also looooveee to isolate you from your family & friends & make you lie for them & distrust your mind & the world. It’s like being in a Cult of 2 & the cult leader started off nice & one day you wake up & there’s a gun to your head & they are taking ANYTHING THEY WANT & you have to agree to SURVIVE. But your mind plays tricks on you also to survive because if it didn’t you’d probably had killed yourself being that TRAPPED. But WE DID SURVIVE & it’s BEAUTIFUL to see someone trying to help the rest of women still out there feel seen & heard & have something to hope for..
    Thank you. Thank you sooooo sooo much.
