An interesting detail. The girl, if you take her to her aunt in the village, asks Geralt "Will you visit me?" And if you come after some time, she will run up to the witcher and there will be a scene in which she will give him her drawing. Geralt will later be able to hang this drawing on the wall in Corvo Bianco.

I'll never understand the logic in hiring someone better than you to kill something more powerful than you, just to attempt to kill them afterwards. Surely that can only ever end one way?
Tbf its not impossible. They almost got him, Geralt straight up lost against a peasant boy with a pitchfork, pretty much all the known Witcher Schools are dying out because of pogroms launched against them. Witchers are better than your ordinary swordsmen but not so much that a group of ordinary swordsmen couldnt beat them. Geralt would hardly have had a reason to fear the Wild Hunt if he was as strong as the game makes him and Leo Bonhart, 3 confirmed Witcherkills, was just one guy.
Witchers have been outnumbered and slaughtered by humans many times you hear about it constantly in the Witcher set treasure hunt notes LOL. Guess you just don’t pay attention.
@@chandlerburse I get Witchers aren't immune, but my point is more psychological. You as a whole village have been unable to kill this beast for however long, then this dude comes and does it for you, alone, without an issue. Would you then attack him..with a pitchfork of all things? I know I sure wouldn't.
I always hated the idea that the trophies on his wall implies that he's done this before because Geralt keeps the head of every monster he kills for a contract and hangs them from his saddle
Honestly the whole turn in the contract part of the game is kinda wonky, because nobody ever asks to see the trophy. Geralt just gives them a rundown of the encounter and they just take his word for it. But at the end of the day it’s just a mechanic the devs put in so you can look cool while riding Roach.
I will never get over the fact this quest is written really poorly with the spare choice It makes no sense for Geralt to compare his Blaviken situation with this.
My thoughts as well when I had a discussion with my friend over our different choices. I get what they where trying to say with Geralt's comment...but his own experience was a bit different. ...okay actually quite alot different, really 😅
I think he was comparing the fact that he (Geralt) is not immune to being caught in a heavy predicament where he has a choice between his own life and slaughtering groups of humans, be they soldiers or villagers. Geralt also knows that angry villagers once their mind is set on forming a mob and attacking witchers is nothing to scoff at and ends only one way. In Witcher lore, villagers have successfully raided Witcher schools, and have done so in Kaer Morhen. I think even someone with a pitchfork even got Geralt before. The choice to sympathize with Gaetan is a way for the player to choose a less judgmental or hypocritical approach and isn’t really to compare what happened in Blaviken with Geralt to what Gaetan just did, more so self awareness that sometimes shit hits the fan. To be fair Gaetan let his temper get the better of him and he killed EVERYONE, but by that point it seems he was at his breaking point and just saw red like a raging bull. And it’s a choice in the dialogue given to players who would rather not slay any witchers. I’m that type of player. My Geralt doesn’t slay any other Witcher’s in the W3 world apart from that one that was part of some sadistic experiment in Novigrad. It’s why I spared Karadin the guy Lambert was after. Other play throughs I’ve done the opposite, but I find the more I play, the more I can’t bring myself to kill other witchers in the game, I guess cuz they’re basically on the verge of being extinct, and you find so many traces through out the game of other witchers who have fallen. It’s such a rare gem to me to find living witchers in game. If it were possible to complete this quest with Gaetan before going to the battle of Kaer Morhen and recruit him, I would have done so without hesitation. I just think it’s cool when you see another Witcher in the game, cuz you just roam with Geralt all on your lonesome most of the game, especially after what happens to Vesimir, and even Eskel and Lambert take off.
@ Gaetan went from house to house thats not the same Geralt didn’t even kill the people in blaviken in defense of himself he killed them in defense of the towns people
One of my favorite lines in the entire game is in this quest if you choose to just fight Gaetan instead of hearing him out Gaetan: “What? I don’t even get a chance to explain myself?” Geralt: “This isn’t a trial, stand up.”
23:00 I don't quite like the logic here, Even Geralt himself doesn't actually turn in his trophies only uses them as proof of kill. And what villager would keep a rotting monster head around? Feel like that piece of dialogue was a bit much
it’s crazy-i JUST got back into witcher 3 last week and so did you apparently!!!! perfect timing 😂 i’m loving these lore deep dives! the game is so full of stories to tell, and you’re one of my favorite storytellers!! match made in heaven ☺️
As for the idea that the trophies in his hideout imply he's done this before, doesn't make sense because you, as Geralt, also keep the trophies of your contracts
I think for some more ideas for RDR2 videos you could do like character analysis. I know you’ve already made a video on Dutch’s mental state and that may be the idea I’m thinking of. For example, a video on Javier let’s say where we take everything about him into account and come to a place of understanding the character up to the final point of him siding with Dutch or even up to him in the first game.
Whenever I load a new campaign, I always choose to put Gaetan down. At the bare minimum, I give him a warriors death by letting him go down fighting against Geralt, the guy got cheated on his contract and his anger at the elderman is understandable, but you can't go round slaughtering entire villages, witchers have a bad enough reputation as it is, also if you let him live who's to say he wouldn't lose the fucking plot again and go blood drunk if the situation was to repeat itself, the guy defended himself in the barn against the elderman and his men, who clearly tried to kill him, I get it he's pissed off, but there's plenty of bodies scattered around the village of men, women, children and greybeards with death blows to their backs and who were clearly unarmed and were most likely unaware of the situation that has spiralled out of control into deadly ground between the elderman and the witcher and were literally running in terror for their lives from a mad witcher who is on a killing spree at this point. Gaetan had to be put down. I highly doubt Geralt would let his fellow witcher walk away knowing what's occurred in the village with the evidence in front of him, even if Geralt can understand Gaetans anger at being screwed over.
Geralt might allow him to leave but the way its written in game is out of character In the books Geralt encounters a witcher like gaetan who apparently killed innocents and he was shunned by most witchers and Geralt encounters him once. And when he does the dude holds a woman hostage until Geralt convinces him to stop and tells him he’ll let him go but he will absolutely hunt him down if he ever hears he kills another innocent again. Thats how he should’ve responded with the spare choice the sympathy Geralt has is bizarre
@ i have no idea either i just know it from neonknights videos i believe he did a video on what choices geralt would make based on his character from the books And he compared Geralts situation here with a dude from the book
A very difficult quest in terms of choice... All these years I thought about what decision is reasonable here, and I still haven't come to a final conclusion. On the one hand, it is clear that no one appointed Geralt as judge and executioner. And he is not obliged to decide Gaetan's fate. On the other hand, since no one else knows about Gaetan's crimes, then by releasing him, Geralt takes responsibility for his possible subsequent murders of peaceful people. And I don't believe that Geralt would have told the peasant woman the truth in this situation. Because he is pragmatic enough, has seen enough in life to not compromise his profession, his workshop once again. I think Geralt would have blamed the devastation of the village on the wood goblin. Especially since the wolves had already taken care to hide the presence of both Gaetan and Geralt in the village by that time.
Honestly in the beginning I also killed him, but now I just listen to him and let him go, understanding that when you are always treated like an animal you can turn into one. Remember Geralt is not for nothing the bucher of Blaviken.
I mean Geralt in the game keeps most of his trophies we even have the option of attaching them to roach. I think Gaeton threw the leshen head on the floor since he was angry and then they said follow me to the barn.. who can say
