    Great commentary on the snipers use in Bolt Action play. I would agree that a veteran sniper is the way to go. May choice is to eliminate mortars first.

    I watched this yesterday and came back to comment today. Like your 'Turn 7' series, I find this really helpful and interesting. My snipers tend to suck and are usually obliterated by a light mortar in Turn 1. I really like the advice of putting the extra pin on your opponent's big hitters during late game to give them extra -1. I'm looking forward to the next one.

    Errata gives Partisans access to Inexperienced Snipers for 35 points, and US Sector gives them access to platoon selections with 2 sniper slots (at the cost of no Medium Mortar) and ability to embed marksman in Maquis Squads (I’m not sure it’s useful). Inexperienced Snipers ignore the inexperienced penalty to hit (but still have the morale and defense penalty) which makes them pretty nifty. Might as well take one since they’re one of three “unique” units they have without campaign books (and likely the best: Their Flamethrower Team is just worse, and Civilian Car is only unique for being able to transport a full Medium Mortar)

    I'm going to a 900 point tournament with a 2 platoons.
    •I think if you're going to pay *the liutenant tax* then having more *HE* on the table will yeild more return.
    •I think if you're going to pay *the liutenant tax* then you're fielding your sniper comes at the opportunity cost of an additional *squad.*
    •If you're going for a lot of order dice in your list then more *recconiasince* units will be able to move up at the end of each turn.
    I argue snipers are more preferable when you're predisposed with fewer order dice.
    And in a single platoon list i argue they're a must-have.

      Great thoughts.. 900 point dual platoon is an interesting build. Indeed i agree at 1250 single platton it is an auto include.

    Usually my targets priority with snipers are:
    - snipers
    - Forward observer
    - spotters
    - officers (put officers on 2nd rank against Germans).

    Glad to see you making videos again. You sound clear and the video is great. I like the way you are breaking it down step by step and really exploring different options and perspectives. I've heard the anti tank gun is the poor mans sniper, what are the differences between the 2.

    The best use of snipers is to put them in ambush and wait to fire at a forward observer just before they fire their payload. On a 3 + they hit. Gonna be a 4 or 5 + to kill. Even if no kill they get a pin and have to do an order check.

    I think the defensive role is key. I see the role of sniper as area denial, if you get a good placement you can close down a large area and cause your opponent to change their plans.

      That reminds me of another thing i forgot to mention. Placing the sniper in front of your lines you need to be careful you dont mess up your other units by not being able to shoot within an inch of the sniper. Ive done this more times then i can count!

    I just started up this game and I'm loving it. It seems to me that snipers are incredibly OP. I put my artillery observer in a building only to have him killed on the first die pull. I was being taught the game too! Lolalways a must take imo.

    Great video. Really good advice about not deploying your sniper as far forward as possible and in hard cover. I always do that with sniper and he ends up dying in a few turns which really hurts as an Italian player with Avanti Savoia.

      Indeed i meant to touch on that a little more and forgot to. When you deploy a sniper too far forward often times your inviting alot of shots from infantry units that have nothing else to do but you set up in their range so they decide why not.. Its important to set up to at least make their deployed units shift out of good cover to get those shots

    In turn 2, you activated the tank to fire on the sniper. Why? I think I would have taken the chance to advance the 9" to , hopefully behind the destroyed scout car and fire the at at the tank destroyer. We do not know the type of terrain the shell holes are but if the hard cover provided is due to the sniper position and not the terrain itself. A 6 with the AT and 6s from the MMG on the tank destroyer, will most likely place a pin on the tank destroyer and maybe destroy it. if the terrain does not provide hard cover you might be at a 4. Great video. Always fun to watch. Keep em coming

      Awesome comment jeff. Great point and great idea. Indeed the shell hole terrain piece is nice and important when you play a game for everyone to know how it plays. I have generally used it as hard cover if your not actually inside it shooting out of it for simplicity and often desert tables it can be difficult to provide LoF obstacles. Indeed if just the armored car was providibg the cover then a move would be advantages move -1 to hit but get rid of the hard cover. Also good point on the mmg it had multiple targets between the squad. The sniper and putting a pin on the open top tank destroyer. Since I was talking about snipers I shot at the sniper to illistrate how hard it can be to kill them.. Great comments!

    Hi where did you get the destroyed marker used on the tank from? Did you make it if so could you do a video on how you made it

      The bigger markers were made by steve bolli they are foam glued over tea lights and then spray painted

    Nice vid mate, look forward to more. Be interested to hear your take on mortar teams. I noticed the 'Back the Blue' on the wall - you law enforcement?

      Yes mortars are one of my favorite Units as they are so versatile. However sometines i get off shooting at less then optimal targets and am looking forward to talking about them. As Sylverster Stalone would say I am the Law

    Newbie question. If you kill the gunner on an mmg the gun is dead as well but do you keep any remaining crew as infantry?

      Thanks for the question. Yep if its an exceptional damage as all shots from a sniper are its removed due to the team weapon rule. Interesting note however if you zap a liutenant many people erroneously remove all the models. Technically its a hq unit and not removed. Ive started running my art observer with 2 extra guys so if he gets snipered no order check required and i still have a 2 man unit
