      I always thought that too. I loved these trucks when I was a kid, I like the style and the grill the only problem was they were aluminium and could get damaged a bit at the mounting area depending on drivers, terrain etc.

    It's nice to see videos of these old trucks brought back from the dead and some even going back to work. When I started driving trucks in 1977 there were more Transtars on the road than I could count. This one even has one of those engines that whistles. Great memories.

      @@gregdolecki8530 it seems like most of the old trucks on the road are Mack’s, which is no surprise they were overbuilt and all business. There are bunches of R’ and like you said even some B models. I love the heavy spec built models like the DM ‘s, what a beast and what I learned in. Twin sticks and 15 gears to choose from lol. It had a 300 plus turned to up 400 and #65k lb bogies under it so it was no speedster but damn would it pull anything.

    My favorite cabover

  • @kerrymcclure7503
    @kerrymcclure7503 8 месяцев назад +2

    A little bit of information probably not everybody realizes the 78 and up had a deeper cab than the 77th and down. Look above the door on the trim there is a little trim spacer between the front trim and the back Trim in the cab above the door that's how much they stretch the cab. A 77 and down did not have that little spacer, front and rear tram came together.
    Plus the 77s had 2 top and 2 bottom handrails.
    78 they had to leave the bottom rear handrail off because it was in front of the toolbox door.
    In 1978 I drove for a man that owned one of each. You wouldn't think that little bit of space in the cab would make that much difference but it was more comfortable.

    Started on a 71 cabover gmc.. back than anytime we were in winter cold weather startup. We always pushed in the clutch just to give less resistance on the starter no need to spin input shaft and all that cold 90 140 weight in the trans... and some of our trucks had compression release and would pull that ring chain get motor spinning and slowly engaged the valves.... ahhh the good ole days..
