  • Digitizing embroidery is hard! This week, I am working on my embroidery digitization skills by working out the four embroidery patterns required for my Titanic coat, and testing them (and testing them and testing them) to make sure I get everything as close as possible to the original coat.

    I’m so sorry for Dora. Poor, sweet girl. Sending healing energy her way. Almost the same thing happened to one of my mom’s cats last month. His abscess burst, but he’s ok now. That embroidery machine is fascinating to watch. Very mesmerizing. Take care.

    Love watching the machine embroidery, it's fascinating! I actually enjoy having your videos on while I'm sewing, it's like having a sewing buddy and gives me motivation. Also hopefully Dora gets better very soon! I'm sending along so many smooches on her sweet face once she's feeling better

    Does your embroidery software have a pull compensation setting? It's pretty normal for satin stitches to have a little bit of shrinkage as they settle into the fabric, so my software has a setting that lets you make them 5-10% wider to compensate.

    The outline around the stitching having a gap might be due to your stabilizer not being stiff enough to resist the thread pulling the fabric in. You might want to try a different stabilizer or maybe using two layers.

    You should add underlay to your embroidery and minimise the amount of tie inns and outs. Push, pull and the lack of underlay causes the bad fit of the outline. If you want to improve your digitising skills then watch a few digitising tutorials on RUclips. Whatever program they use the base principles are all the same and it really helped me to improve. I own a 25 year old brother embroidery machine with software that only runs on an ancient computer, but I still use this machine and the only way you can transfer designs is via a special embroidery card. Last year I got a new Brother embroidery machine and Embird software. A lot of possibilities but it takes time to learn.
    I really love your project and attention to detail. It’s going to be amazing

      Do you mean a topper? I am using stabilizer already, and debated about a topper, but I didn't have any on hand.

    • @petrasouth1133
      @petrasouth1133 6 месяцев назад

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions Underlay is a grid of stitching you create under satin and fill stitches to create a solid base for your final stitches and it helps to get a crisp design that will hold its shape. This is an automatic option in any embroidery software, even my ancient pes software had this option, but maybe you turned this option of. It has got nothing to do with stabilisers.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  6 месяцев назад

      @@petrasouth1133 ah ok. I was surprised that this didn't have anything besides a small straight stitch underneath, but I figured it was because each of the areas was so narrow. I definitely didn't turn an underlay off, but I'll have to check and see if it's an option to turn on.

    I hope Dora's ok, I had a rabbit with an abcess and because rabbits are little abcess-batteries, I had to learn to inject him with antibiotics and it was gross for a long time. But she should heal up much faster!
    The embroidery looks pretty dang nifty, and now I guess we all are starting to understand why buying an embroidery pattern for a machine is not so cheap, that's a lot of work!

  • @maryloukeenan5939

    When I embroider on plush type fabrics, I place a tear away or water soluble stabilizer on top of the piece. That helps eliminate the gap between the satin stitching and the outline. Anyway, your garment is going to be spectacular!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I thought about using a topper, but I didn't have any, and until I used the black, it didn't seem like the outline was an issue.

  • @HockityPock

    not familiar with the embroidery software but general vector programs- the embroidery segments might have gotten 'gouped' together , where the program treats multiple individual shapes as one unit or instance. I'd snoop around and see if there's any settings for that you can undo and then edit. It also may be that the thick wool compresses more in the satin stitch than it does with just a single chain stitch, so the fill stitches end up shrinking more than the outline?

    • @HockityPock
      @HockityPock 6 месяцев назад +3

      also poor dora! At least that means she held her ground- the cat i had as a kid came home with a similar head wound once and the vet told us it means they went face to face instead of running away.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  6 месяцев назад +2

      I figured out how to remove the outline! But you're probably right about the satin stitches compressing the fabric in a bit.

    Poor Dora!!! Prayers, Hands/Paws crossed, for a full recovery from me, Maverick, and Starlight. I am assuming Dora is an indoor/outdoor cat, something I will not do. If my cats do get outdoors time, I get them leash trained and take them out myself. Too many wild cards in the open, depending on where you live. Where I am at night we have wild cats, coyotes, and other wildlife that have been known for wandering into and hunting in the city. We also have those types that will speed up their vehicle with the intention of killing an animal crossing the road, because someone let their cat/or dog free range explore. This mostly happens to the cats in my area. It's sad that people can be so cruel.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, she is indoor/outdoor, because I have a dog door that she learned how to use when she was really young. I wish she would be happy just being inside, but unfortunately she's not.

    • @midnightqueen3332
      @midnightqueen3332 6 месяцев назад

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions They do make RFID, or similar tech, dog doors. It's a small apparatus that attaches to your dogs collar and gets read at a certain range and unlocks the door when they get near it. I don't know how old Dora is, so that may be a challenge, as its best to start when they are young, but you could try to leash train her and take her for supervised outings on a leash. Cat Behaviorist Jackson Galaxy is a strong advocate of leash training, as it gives outdoors time in a supervised way. If your home is yours, you could also look into building a catio outdoors enclosure. Its something to at least look into. My Siamese(Isis, 16, crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020) was leash trained, she loved going on walks outside and around the yard. I haven't leash trained Starlight(4) or Maverick(13) because of mobility issues since those days.

    Would be nice if the end of the swirls did not end so bluntly. Perhaps treat like calligraphy and end in a stylised point? Sorry to hear about Dora. I hope she gets better.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions

      Unfortunately with this software, I don't think there's a way for the satin stitches to always be perpendicular across the spirals, and have the ends end in a point.

  • @annerogers6895

    I hope Dora will be ok. I'm not the best at digitalizing embroidery too and my singer program is just as old. But there's a couple things that come to mind to the problem. The embroidery may be to dense. And it pulls the fabric just so much making the outline off set. I can understand that you want t dense enough to not have the wool show. Maybe try first put a program a single stitch line that runs the length of the scrolls and leaves kinda like a anchor the fabric it provent it from shifting. If that doesn't work then try lessen the dense of the stitches. I hope that helps
