While I appreciate a lot of the stuff they get published/made like a lot of the classic game remasters, It's been hard seeing them get progressively worse about customer service over the years. I feel like for the people that are not constantly engaged in the unending cycle of video game industry drama, this was the misstep thatcs gonna turn a lot of people off of them.

Yeah, even as someone who is patient, they've gotten SUPER dragged out. I like that they're no longer limited to 2000-5000 copies, but sometimes I forget I ordered a game until I get a shipping notification well over a year later.
I believe the problem with that is actually stocking the games, which ones for which systems, and how long stock might be held for. So in that case the pre-order system works well enough since the company knows exactly how much to make due to demand.
This is totally nuts from a recognizable company who was well respected by the community for releasing high-quality limited games, but it seems that 'quality' went over their heads. Hopefully, they listen to customer feedback and change that.
Isn't pressing the discs supposed to be cheaper than burning? With pressing you can make them way faster, just needs more (and more costly) preparation before it happens. Burning is easier to get going for sure but even at blazing speeds, it's going at snails pace compared to pressing. Not sure how many they are making, but I think it's a relatively low number that you need to press for it to be worth it compared to burning (google gemini is says 100+ but it of course depends and nor sure how accurate that is).
Faster, probably not cheaper, but that shouldn't be an issue for a company like LRG unless it's a situation where a release barely sells. I know a few years ago that happened with one PC release where the game didn't sell well enough to make pressing a disc worth it, so they sent the packaging but the game itself was on a Steam key.
I only like using them for switch games. I've only missed out one game I was looking for. Had to pay a premium for it. As usual there are folks who buy the limited runs and slap them on eBay with a premium shortly after.
I have a real 3DO and it will absolutely refuse to read any burned CD-Rs no matter what speed it was burned, no matter what capacity the disc is 700mb / 650mb, and no matter what brand or who manufactured it. Some have suggested burning the CD-Rs using old hardware, I have 2x CD-ROM drives from the mid-nineties burn vintage blank discs and those still won't work. It's nothing wrong with the hardware, it's just a fussy system and some people get lucky and have systems that have no problem reading burned discs and others just don't.
Probably depends on who made the laser assembly for your 3DO. The system manufacturer might've even used laser assemblies from various manufacturers. Panasonic, Goldstar, Sanyo, Creative Labs and Samsung each made and marketed their own variations of 3DO systems. So each one of them is likely built differently. It's a disappointing news nonetheless.
While it's upsetting that the game discs (CD soundtrack is professionally pressed) are burned, I'm probably more upset that Limited Run only made "D" available for the 3DO. "D" would have been a good starting point to remaster & re-release Kenji Eno's games physically for modern consoles. Either sold individually or in a collection set, "D" "D2" "Enemy Zero" "Trip'D" "Flopon Kun P!" "You, Me, & The Cubes" "Panic Restaurant (with original end credits)" "Short Warp", all need a new lease on life.
I believe that's part of why so many D fans bought this - show your support with your wallet and hope the money can help fund other endeavors such as ports to newer consoles. Unfortunately any supporters got burned.
How long has this been going on? Should I be popping my limited run first ever disc for ps5? I bought two of Cthulu does Christmas (or something, been a while since I bought them) and I played to completion one of them, and kept the other one sealed. Is my PS5 Cthulu disc gonna be on a CD-R? Should I check by shoving Cthulu into a portable cd drive onto my laptop?
What's the difference between a pressed disc and CD-R? One is professionally made in a factory and the other is your uncles mix tape that he made in 2003 to play in his beemer.
there are some technical issues for pro-CD that most of people dont know , the minimum ammount of copies you can make is 300 CDs, and for some press companies 500 CDs, so if you wanna make 100 copies or less it would be impossible to find any factory that can do that for you, you can ask your local band and they probably explain you this kind of issues.
I have no doubt about that, just like I have no doubt that LRG sold more than enough copies to press. You can see it in the fact that the included soundtrack was pressed, which makes this even more hilarious 🤣
Unless I missed something, Limited Games is just the front facing reseller/publisher but they always go through other third parties to make their products. Limited doesn’t make anything other than final assembly and shipments. So my guess … who ever they contracted to make the 3DO disc sucked and failed miserably and Limited has a big issue on their hands now due to poor quality control.
They've had quality control issues before - the Monkey Island Anthology that they sold for PC is complete junk because an installer file is missing for disc 1... oh, and it was ALSO burnt onto CD-Rs. You know what the biggest take-away is from this fiasco? The people that buy from these guys are going to continue doing so. SMH Here's a serious question. Is Ltd Run even licensing this stuff? Top to bottom via every rights holder? WRT "sealed" collectors - just wait till these folks get older, there's huge money to be made in dementia treatment - invest now.
I feel like limitedrun suffered from logistic issues ever since COVID. Switching suppliers, shipping services, and releasing very bizarrely niche games. The scope of LGR was to pick up physical editions for digital only games, now they widen too much
they specifically admitted to selling cd-rs. even if they did work it would still be ridiculously overpriced. also please don't defend limited run games, this is why they get away with shit like this.
Saying that I've liked the company for the most part and that I've been a customer for years isn't me defending them, not sure what to tell you. If that's the logic, then is any place you do business with a place that you're defending simply for being a customer? Timestamping my transparency is not the epic own you might think it is, especially since you're the only one liking your own comments here.
Nice video! My thoughts as you requested: I agree, and like to add: Limited Run is indeed massively different than a Dreamcast hobby market selling a CD-R! Most of those people are homebrew hobbyists and their customers are too, generally speaking. It’s understandable considering their situation, from both the seller and the customer that the game would be a CD-R and not an official GD-ROM. Limited Run however, is on the shelves at Best Buy. They’re full commercial retail. The standard of quality for their products should be higher, and customers that see their brand in a prominent store like Best Buy - whether they are buying online or on-site, WILL expect a legit CD-ROM. Especially when it’s never disclosed before sale. That’s just plain deceptive.
Definitely have that expectation for a retail place like LRG! I'm unsure if you've followed the Dreamcast scene a ton, but many homebrew devs still manage to get their games pressed to CD!
Yep! TL;DR being they couldn't get quality right for pressed discs, CD-Rs worked fine with their tests, but no other 3DO games have been pressed/burned, just D. All other 3DO titles are on hold for now until this is resolved, and they're offering full refunds to anyone impacted.
@@MrMario2011 They couldn't get quality right for pressed discs, so they threw quality out the door entirely by going with CD-Rs... what bonehead made that decision?
I would actually advise against using a Blu-Ray burner, burners these days that hook up to the SATA ports on your motherboard do not burn at slow enough speeds to create good burns on CD-R's I use an external slim DVD burner to burn CD's because it can burn at low speeds that means my target platform for the CD will be able to read the CD properly. I hope that the GBA carts they'll ship out for Shantae aren't gonna be produced cheaply.
I thought most of the older systems didn't even have cd protection. Sega cd and Neogeo cd could run from normal CD-r's without any mods..... so I figured 3do had no issue
They have! I'm paraphrasing, but in short they claimed that pressed discs they were trying to make did not have good results from their testing, yet they were able to have better results with CD-R. This is the only game they have completed for the 3DO so far, no other 3DO games will be made until this is resolved, and they are offering full refunds.
Pretty crazy stuff, I don't care or get collecting old media or media at all, hate it actually. Even though I'm not a collector of discs and old media I would never ever imagine someone who would order these games would pay the price or be happy with a burned disc.
@MrMario2011 I can't even imagine a discussion taking place where someone says "let's just burn these and put nice labels on them" and no one saying what a horrible idea that is. It's actually more confusing than anything.
A burned CD will never will never be as easy for an old console to read as a pressed - likely lowering the life of the console drive. A burned CD won't last as long as pressed. A decent portion of my 15+ year old CD-Rs are trash with spots of clear plastic where media should be. Granted usually due to poor storage, but still. All my 15+ year old pressed CDs are fine.
For sure. Thankfully many of my CD-Rs are still going, but that's factually correct that they will be harder for a disc drive to read. Apparently several models of the 3DO do not like CD-Rs at all.
Somewhere in the middle of the aughts, I ran into tons of games/movies that would just not read (rip) properly. It got so annoying. The discs were new and pristine too, but they looked off, like they had kind of a rainbow sheen where it kind of looked like the metal foil wasn't well adhered to the plastic disc. So, yeah, you can't always trust a press either.
If the game was supplied with pressed discs the game would be so expensive nobody would buy it. CD-Rs are cheaper. Customers should have been asked or given the option to which they prefered.
That's absolutely incorrect, pressed discs aren't expensive enough to make a change in the price, especially since the price was originally set with the idea of pressed discs. There should have never been an option because it should have been pressed since the beginning.

People out there wanted a nice collector's edition of one of their favorite games, expected it to be pressed onto something nicer than a CD-R, and also wanted to support projects like this to hopefully get more.
I get that but honestly
I just went to the NYC pop up. Ive been converted lol.
Companies are milking a dead cow with rhe CD-R's. But its cool to see some official revivals
It would be cooler if they were properly pressed!
@@MrMario2011 I fully agree. Pressed disc costs are very little compared to burning discs (time is money)
You know what the biggest take-away is from this fiasco? The people that buy from these guys are going to continue doing so. SMH
Here's a serious question. Is Ltd Run even licensing this stuff? Top to bottom via every rights holder?
WRT "sealed" collectors - just wait till these folks get older, there's huge money to be made in dementia treatment - invest now.
Limited Run does acquire the licenses to redistribute their releases, which is why it has taken them so long to acquire certain titles.
Does that mean my physical copy of Streets of Rage 4 is faulty?
Is your copy of Streets of Rage 4 faulty?
@MrMario2011 It works just fine, but will the Game Card wear out or corrupt faster than any of my physical games on Nintendo Switch?
Man, i want some burned 360 games now, i don't have a modded console
Skip the burning and jump straight to a RGH 😁
@@MrMario2011 honestly don't have the money, and want to keep my slim 360 legit
Lets be real, Limited Run have been greasy for a long while.
Not the good kind of grease either!
I feel like limitedrun suffered from logistic issues ever since COVID. Switching suppliers, shipping services, and releasing very bizarrely niche games. The scope of LGR was to pick up physical editions for digital only games, now they widen too much
I agree with your last statement for sure, it just seems they strayed away from their original vision.
I heard verbatim discs are really good
True Verbatim discs are good, not the cheaper media with Verbatim labelling on it.
@@MrMario2011 oh there's a difference? so like the big 100-packs from walmart aren't legit?
they specifically admitted to selling cd-rs. even if they did work it would still be ridiculously overpriced. also please don't defend limited run games, this is why they get away with shit like this.
Not sure where I defended this practice? I was bringing up points that some people might bring up to claim it isn't a big deal.
@@MrMario2011you were defending them as a company.
Got a timestamp to that?
0:38 not even a minute into the video. @@MrMario2011
Nice video! My thoughts as you requested:
I agree, and like to add: Limited Run is indeed massively different than a Dreamcast hobby market selling a CD-R!
Looks like they made a tweet, an half assed one if you can call it that.
I would actually advise against using a Blu-Ray burner, burners these days that hook up to the SATA ports on your motherboard do not burn at slow enough speeds to create good burns on CD-R's
I use an external slim DVD burner to burn CD's because it can burn at low speeds that means my target platform for the CD will be able to read the CD properly.
I hope that the GBA carts they'll ship out for Shantae aren't gonna be produced cheaply.
Thankfully they can't burn a cartridge as easy as a CD!
On top of that, it depends on the quality of the disk that they use. The best CD's to burn games is Memorax
Hell no, bring on that Taiyo Yuden goodness.
I thought most of the older systems didn't even have cd protection.
Sega cd and Neogeo cd could run from normal CD-r's without any mods..... so I figured 3do had no issue
That's correct, certain models of the 3DO don't read CD-Rs well though.
Wow.
Has Limited Run Games responded yet?
Glad I've only ever bought switch cartridges from them and not discs
I wonder what mvg has to say about this as he works for them
Pretty crazy stuff, I don't care or get collecting old media or media at all, hate it actually. Even though I'm not a collector of discs and old media I would never ever imagine someone who would order these games would pay the price or be happy with a burned disc.
Worst part was that it was never disclosed, can guarantee absolutely no one who bought the game expected to get CD-R discs.
@@MrMario2011 That's even worse. This is just straight-up false advertising in your face.
@MrMario2011 I can't even imagine a discussion taking place where someone says "let's just burn these and put nice labels on them" and no one saying what a horrible idea that is. It's actually more confusing than anything.
It's fraudulent, straight up. I feel bad for everyone who got burned 🚒
I would agree with you there.
Nice dogo at 15:03
She's a pro.
No company should be selling a professional product on a burned disc. I hsve a Japanese 3do slim and it doesnt like some on cd-r
I've never liked the way this company does business. This doesn't surprise me even a little bit.
Goldstar 3do's don't play burnt cdrs. Im so glad I skipped this garbage. I almost bought it.
i always thought Limited Run was bs.
lots of systems lasers do not like cd-r's
Love your name
Thanks, MarioMania05
Dang
Dang indeed.
LRG doing an awful job, what a news...
More at 5!
Wow. 😂
