- BANGKOK, THAILAND - Bangkok’s best value dim sum is not found in Bangkok Chinatown, it’s in Charoen Krung Road near the Bangkok Riverside. This is not your typical Thai dim sum place. Tuang Dim Sum is a special restaurant because Hong Kong-born chef Yip, was the man behind the success of the 5 star Shangri-La Hotel’s Shang Palace restaurant. He gave up that success to open this small dim sum joint and has gone from strength to strength. Known by many as one of the best and most affordable dim sum restaurants in all of Bangkok, Tuang is must stop if you are a lover of Chinese street food in Bangkok.
We had Sui Mai, Bao Buns, Har gow, Xia Long Bao and Cheong fun all times 2 or 3!
The whole feast we had came to 488 THB - £11.45 / $13.95 which is what it would cost for two pieces in London! This is 5 Star Hotel Dim Sum at Thai Street Food Prices!

I'm big on the price of things. Pretty sure you said that wasn't part of your forum. Could be wrong. Might have you mixed up with somebody else. If you list cost of accomodations, food, etc. I'm interested.
@@whatsname2649 If I am buying something in the video, I usually add the cost in the video. Sometimes with food, I just add total price of the meal at the end. In other videos, where I so hotel, I will add how much a night costs.

Bangkok have a lot of Chinese community scattering around many of old family already move out from Yaowarat (China Town) , a lot of restaurants could be considering Bangkok hidden gem as many tourists would obviously pick authentic Thai food first but don't sleep on some of this!
the price is extremely cheap compare to hotel grade and use common ingredient but it still great dim sum.

Ive watched a vlog from this place before,the owner worked at a high end Hong Kong restaurant. Moved to bbk and opened his own place,hope I get to visit one day.

Gary always finds an amazing place to eat and I am curious if it's really better than Din Tai Fung. Again, I must say food is your talent, you explained it very well and I enjoyed watching this video.
He does indeed, the man has a good nose for it. I haven't eaten at Din Tai Fung, so I wouldn't know, but this was pretty good.
Din Tai Fung is a chain. I would expect a restaurant that specialize in it that has been in business for a long time to be better.

You have to eat everything quickly while it’s still hot, moist will be preserved and you will feel difference of soft and hot surface and the juicy inner part. It’s the way to experience the varying texture. Leaving them contacting air for only short period of time, moist will evaporate 🎉. Eating xiao Long bao, make a small bite first to to enjoy the soup then swallow the rest. Most importantly, eat ASAP when they are served🎉

It's actually funny, a Thai like I am, surrounded by Japanese in the Japan town area (Phrom Pong), watching Farang enjoying Chinese food right in the center of Bangkok.
Oh and all of my ancestors are Chinese, so that makes me a Chinese, or at least a Chinese descendant.
Anyway, จีบ (Jeeb) means the folding by putting a sheet of paper or dough on your index finger and thumb, then press them together. I think Kanom Jeeb comes from that folding. Jeeb can also means that action of putting index finger and thumb together and spread the rest three out (use in Thai traditional dancing), and ... trying to pick a girl or to date her !

Had that a few years ago - when we stayed at the Chatrium !! great food - we took it away . Bit out of the way from the tourist areas but well worth it

Dim sum is the appetizers in the Chinese restaurant. We eat them before the main menu are arrived. But nowadays they become popular as main dishes.

There are several fried din sum dishes that you should have tried also in order to complete your introduction on dim sum meal. We usually end a dim sum meal with crab/ shrimp fried rice or stir- fried noodles , and a kind of popular Chinese dessert.

i would translate ขนมจีบ(kanomjeeb) to "pleated snack". the word "jeeb", in this case, means to pleat or to fold, describing the pleated wrapper.
to dip is จิ้ม(jim).

a dim sum joke. a Confucian dim sum uses cabbage, an Indochinese dim sum uses Vietnamese rice paper, a Catholic dim sum the host is under the wicker steamer, they got the linen napkin wet, a Buddhist dim sum uses bowls, they don't use bamboo steamers.

How did you find out about this store!? I'm Thai, I didn't even know that before! But the name of the hotel you mentioned was very famous for Chinese food when I was young. This restaurant moved 1-2 km away, near Asiatique. The taste is not the best. I would say over standard and not expensive. The line is very long. You should prepare to wait around 1 hour. If you expect superior taste, go to Ban Yan Tree Bangkok hotel which is 6x expensive.
