Everyone knew this game in the rm2k/2k3 community about 20 years ago as the assets were used in one of the biggest custom battle systems. Obscure reference for an obscure game.
Love this game. I can’t be the only one who spent a lot of time on the mantra entering. I was writing notes every new one I saw and starting tinkering with them to see what I could get. Still fun as hell to play
This has to be one of the worst ways to describe one of the best games that never left Japan. There are so many wrong things you said in this video. First of all, the world isn't called Rudras or "Rudas" as you say... Rudra is the name given to the different gods that come every 4000 years to wipe out life on the planet and to start again with a completely new race. The story isn't about a treasure hunter. There is one, but you don't get to play as him until the last 1/10 of the game. There are no multiple endings. There are very minor things that change one boss fight and the order in which some characters are presented, but the ending is exactly the same. You mentioned its non-linear storytelling, which is maybe its main strength, without saying much: the game has 3 major protagonists that individually experience the last 15 days of one of the many 4000 years cycle and you can freely swap between their story. While there are relics, most of them do dynamically nothing and the most unique ones are given to you in the first hours. The others are just there to progress with the story. Saying that they are important is the same thing as saying that keys play a major role in a Zelda game. True, but pointless. Also, I never would have considered the fact that you level up and gain stats as a necessary part to say in a JRPG's review. Treasure chests aren't random. Most dungeons are visited by all 3 parties at different times and only some chests are exclusively available to a specific party, but no randomness is involved. This is a full on JRPG, not a game with dungeon crawling and light RPG elements. Puzzle solving in Treasure of the Rudras isn't that outstanding in the JRPG pool. Timing is non existent in battle. You also have the ability to customize your character with equipment and, especially, write your own magic with more than 400 spells. Yeah, another important point that you totally missed. Music does not shift as you get close to a boss. Please, consider fixing this video, because this is misinformation. Maybe some people could find what you said interesting and then play a completely different game.
This. I was about to comment something along the same line. Also that he pronounces Rudra wrong, with it being Roo-druh like the vedic god it takes it's name from :/
it is amazing that even in 2025, there are still games i never heard off or even seen, this is so interesting.
