So after messing around with Brawl, I fixed the floppy waist joint with a drop of super glue and worked it in and for the lack of stomach but flip down the combiner peg a few clicks just to fill in the gut and you still have access to the waist swivel
If I'm not mistaken, Hasbro is issuing two decos for this guy: the one you have now, and the greener version some time later. The same is happening with Onslaught, who is getting differently colored chest plates for combined mode.

Also he loses the waist rotation, but you can still transform him without partsforming.
Considering Bruticus is my favourite, I'm disapointed with these, I kinda wish they had all been new molds or not bothered, it looks like they had to push to get him released but use things that already exist. It's a shame, but at least Onslaught looks good, and hopefully that will make Bruticus awesome. Almost thought when you did the comparison that Brawl may even work better as another heavy redo to include a turret of the Swindlw/Rook mold. It's beefy and replacing the wheels with treads and small wheels could work better.

Just a suggestion, but it looks like if you were to bring out the combiner peg by one or two clicks in robot mode (so that it points diagonally down in the direction of his butt), that might sit flush with the bendy-foldy-not-stomach-hinge-flap and actually fill out his midsection? Not promising anything, but it's gotta be worth a shot.
I hope they can fix the thing with the waist, I really want these combaticons and I don't want one figure from keeping me from getting them. Cause you can't be missing a part of the team

Hmm. I kinda thought Brawl would be better. I mean, he's okay, but i was so excited for this figure, and his problems, specifically that crappy waist transformation, just sorta make him meh. I got all 4 of the combaticons already, and i am quite happy with them. Even though Vortex is just a repaint, Blast off isnt a space shuttle, but a jet mode makes more sense in a team of military vehicles, and Brawl is pretty cool even with a couple flaws. i cant wait to complete the team. Now i dont understand why people are so picky with plastic action figures, I appreciate every figure i buy in this line even if it is a repaint. (With the Exception of the Optimus maximus team) I appreciate that hasbro was able to give us a Bruticus figure that looks decent even without a bunch of 3rd party upgrades. (Not to mention under a low budget) I cant really afford a 3rd party combiner cause i dont have that type of income, and the Takara version might not come out for another few months. Oh well, lets give it time and see of hasbro takes a look at what the fans say and reconsider

I am baffled that anyone at Hasbro and /or Takara would think this was an acceptable product. Of course they knew that g1 geeks would have swallowed this along the rest in order to get Bruticus, but damn it's like they didn't actually want to sell any of these as stand-alone figures. I'd rather wait for a 3rd party alternative or repaint a Rook and stick a turret on it.

You can make g1 Vortex stand by pushing back on the waist. There is a joint there that is not mentioned in the instructions.
Like emgo said, due to the feet's transformation Brawl's legs are pretty flexible. You can have him in running pose.

All my figure's guns were so loose, I had to mix them up to see what weapons stay in and don't wobble side to side, or just plain straight up.
