My first time finding you, I am very impressed with your teaching technique, just the right speed, easy to follow. I am learning to make mandalas and keep looking for different styles and patterns. What I have learned from your videos will be very helpful. Thank you so much. I will be 83 yrs. old in August and I enjoy any form of craft. I live on the Gold Coast Australia. Keep up the good work 🥰
Hello to Australia! So glad you've found my work helpful! I don't have any mandala projects yet, but I've been working on a mini-book for them for a while so look out for that in the future 😁
And just like that, you have potentially saved me a TON of time! I just started learning to quill as of yesterday and I've been gluing EVERY. SINGLE. LOOP. It's such a simple concept --if you don't glue every loop you don't actually need to worry about making sure the layers are flush. Thank you, thank you very much! :)
I only started yesterday too, but a year later lol. Got a quilling set with all this different width papers and a comb etc. didnt have a clue until now!
I've never heard of a quiling comb, but the first thing i thought seeing it was that it looked just like a hair pick i would see my African American friends use. Great video on instructions and speed, very easy to understand and follow!
It does look like a pick and you can absolutely use one of those or any other type of hair comb. I have a tiny one that I like for really small flower petals 😊
Hi Meredith, only found you a few days ago. I taught myself, through a book, to quill a few years ago, with a toothpick, as I didn't have the tools, which where I live, is expensive. Just the basic shapes. Haven't done it for along time though. Never knew about the quilling comb. I have made a diy one, so now to watch your videos, to see how to do it, and if it will work. I just wanted to say, thank you, for taking your time, and slowly clearly, explaining things. As I had two, other people's videos pop up on my phone. But,, they do not speak, just show, not even words on the screen ( that maybe would have helped, though probably then would not have been able to see) And what they are showing, they are doing it so quickly. So needless to say, I didn't continue watching. So thank you for the way you do your tutorials. I hope to learn, how to make flowers and butterflies and lot more, from you.
I absolutely loved your video. You have such a calm, clear manner in teaching. Most videos seem to be on speed dial -- trying to get it done in record time. I usually cannot get what's going on, so in essence, I'm wasting my time. But your videos are different and I thank you for that. I will be looking for more from you. It's been wonderful.
Oh wow! That's so funny you say that. It had me thinking of quilTing and wire art. Take a small gage wire glue ribbon over it then use this technique for the shape. Then u can sow, embroider, or French embroider it. Sow on beads the glue of sow that or rap it on whatever ur making. So above I was asking if thisbwould work on multiple ideas. And it all seemed from quilTing. Now that you mentioned it ik the comb ur talking about and don't they also have a bord too with spikes sticking out of it? Anyways that's funny. I didn't k what that was 4 either. It's now "dawning on" me what that is for. I new quilt and quil had something in common. I'd love to learn quilTing. Or is it stitching? 🤔 well 1 project at a time.
Omg sorry about the typos! I was trying to say take wire and glue ribbon over it. Then use this idea to achieve the shape. But afterwards you will be rapping the wire or sowing etc the ends. I wanting to sow on beads. I believe French embroidery is similar to what I mean.
So glad to help! I use the quilling comb a lot and I have a whole playlist with other comb projects. You can see that here 👉 ruclips.net/p/PLzKBIFJkUl_NxBUnZeLizMp_Bbjsq0ODr
Thanks for the reminders as I have not used my quilling comb ( or rat tail hair comb🙈) in quite a while as I have been using other cutting- embossing combos. Love the suggestion of starting with the needle tool and skipping it over onto the comb. I can see the advantage of the actual quilling comb with the even tines. Love the “ C” weave. I have loved using that for lotus flowers in the past. Just watched a bunch of your videos today. Great . Thank you. Marjorie from Georgia US
This is a good video. I like your calm way of explaining the steps. I just learned about quilling today after we were sent a quilling card for our anniversary. This is super pretty art work. Not sure I have the patience for it though.
Very good tutorial! I have seen people use a regular hair comb too... have you ever tried that? This looks so intriguing! I really need to make some time to try it! I love paper crafts! They are so inexpensive to mss as we but turn out so beautiful!
Thank you so much for your easy to follow videos!!! I've wanted to try quilling with a comb for ages, but it looked so complicated and now you've showed me how easy it is. I really appreciate the slow and patient way that you describe how to do it!! Now for lots of fun practicing.😁
enjoying these videos..your quilling comb looks like it has pointier ends, making it easier to slide the coils onto. I haven't been able to find any like that...?
Well I found one online/ amazon...when It got here I noticed it is actually a kitchen tool for holding down onions. I hope that you will make these distinctions on your videos because all other quilling combs have blunt ends, and almost impossible to move the coiled paper over to it. thanks, I am able to make much better flower leaves etc !
At fist I thought to myself: "Why on earth would you need a comb for quilling?" - btw I found out about quilling 30 mins ago xD This seems so nice and I will probably start this hobby :D Thanks for the video!
I have not started quilling yet - but my supplies are on their way. It looks like such fun with beautiful results!! Actually, my comb just arrived in the mail so I'm going to check it out, then come back and try making some of these leave. Thank for a very clear and understandable video! I have subscribed and I can ee I'm going to be learning a lot. What type of glue do you suggest? Right now, I have Elmers in one of those bottles with the tiny nozzle that I use for making cards.
Can u use this technique for wire and beading, French embroidery, sowing leaves, and making a "stencil"? Ik for each it would be a little different but u could still use the basic idea right?
Okay, this is more my speed, lol. Looks much less aggravating than the husking board. I love the idea of trying different hair picks and combs. I think I liked the last idea best. Interesting looking little piece. Nice demo!
Thanks for watching! They do work very similarly, but the husking board can be a little tricky since the pins can come out pretty easily. The one advantage to the husking board is that you can create some shapes all at once on the board, but that same shape may have to be make in pieces on the comb. These flowers for example would have to be made in 2 pieces on a comb, but can be done all at once on the board 👉 ruclips.net/video/X22ABejyUnw/видео.html
Thanks for the information. I have a question about tearing the end of the quilling strip versus cutting it with scissors. Does tearing the end of the strip provide a more seamless result? I've been cutting a straight edge with sharp scissors. Thank you very much :)
I think it really does make a difference. Cutting leaves more of a blunt edge that’s harder to blend. When you tear the paper, little fibers are left on the end that can grab onto the paper below and you can really smooth it out. Give it a try and see if you like the result!
You can use any color on a quilling comb. The lime green just really stands out well on video 😁. Most of my projects use 1/8" strips but if I use other widths, I always mention it and link to all my supplies in the description box of each video. If you want more quilling comb info, I have an entire playlist here 👉 ruclips.net/p/PLzKBIFJkUl_NxBUnZeLizMp_Bbjsq0ODr

I have used them in the past, but I don't think I've used one in a video yet. I do have a teasing comb with really small teeth that I like to use a lot. If you have a hair comb you'd like to use, you can use it exactly the same way as a quilling comb.
I just got my 1st kit. I feel an another addictive craft coming on haha. Thanks for sharing. Do you have any tips on how you store your paper stripes once you've opened them please? X
I actually just keep my paper in the plastic sleeves that they come in and those are packed in cardboard photo boxes and sorted by color. There are other ideas out there using pins or clamps to hang the strips. Try searching on Pinterest or google for some ideas. I’m sure you’ll find some inspiration!
@@ThePaperyCraftery I think I'll stick with the packaging they come in. Now that I have learned to be a bit more careful when I take them out it shouldn't be a problem haha. I'm impatient x
It's a little slow-going, but I just squeeze my big bottle of glue into the top. I know some brands include a small funnel, but I just unscrew to top and fill it up that way.
I am in the process of putting closed captions on all my videos, but they are optional to each viewer. You can turn them on and off by clicking on the little CC or by going to your settings. Thanks for watching!

Another thing. You k how a small gage of wire can be rapped with material ex: string yarn cloth or what have you. Can u rap ur wire around the comb similar to make the shape. Instead of glue u might twist it or stick it, 😂 or glue it to something when it's done. But to achieve this idea you could...🤔 wonder how that would turn out??? I have seen a price of wood and 3 rows of 3 nails hammered into a small square bord so achieve shapes so the wire dosnt bend. But if u were not able to make that. You maybe be able to use this comb. Am I making any sence to you? I'm going to try. That would be great if someone can try to see what's the best way. I'd like to but I only have cell phone quality and never on so I don't have followers.
