    Fun fact, he recorded this in mid '79 and played ALL of the instruments himself, sharing the vocals with Linda. Not for the first time, he proved himself ahead of his time.

      I had that album. It tripped me out that Coming up, did not sound like the radio version. Learned later that it was all PM.

    the 79 live version is where it's at...his bass tone is off the charts and his vocals are at their peak

      His vocals were far from their peak in '79 lol. You can hear the fatigue in his hoarseness. He hadn't been "peak" consistently since the mid-60s

    Estos monstruos fueron los mejores músicos que acompañaron a Macca en su carrera solista. Sonaban como los dioses, se divertían en el escenario. Cuando vinieron a Buenos Aires , en noviembre del 93, se lo notaba feliz con ellos. Tenían una conexión y un profesionalismo que era una maravilla. Díficil de igualar. Amo esta etapa de Paul.

      Mis viejos fueron a verlo en la cancha de River '93. Yo tenía 5 años.

      @@michelecriscimanna7716 Yes, great guy. I played at Paul’s daughters 18th birthday (Stella) where I met the band. Great night plus an invite to one of Paul’s gigs with this great line up so a while ago. Chris introduced Wix (keyboards) to Paul who is now a permanent fixture.

      i personally like the studio version the most. as for live versions, the 2009 sullivan/letterman "rooftop" version is an absolute killer to me.

    Just went from a '79 version of this with a Yamaha BB bass, and it's amazing how weak the Hofner sounds in comparison. Damn.

    This is the best line up he has had in his solo career. Robbie McIntosh of The Pretenders on lead guitar, Hamish Stuart of The Average White Band rhythm guitar/bass, Chris Whitten on drums, and Wix and the missus on keys.

    I always enjoyed this version of Macca’s live band - they always looked they really enjoyed playing together! Tripping The Live Fantastic is as good a live album as Wings Over America in my opinion!

    este baterista fue uno de los mejores que tuvo PAUL en la banda y el otro es BLAIR COMINGUM mucho mejor que el que tiene ahora ,con todo respeto lo digo que lastima que no siguieron con el y se nota la ausencia de LINDA ahora .otra sra. que talento la de linda para aplaudirla ,por favor,como sonaba esta banda....Con esta banda nos visitó por primera vez aca en ARGENTINA en cancha de RIVER alla´por el dia 8 y 9 de DICIEMBRE de 1993.me lamenté que no pude ir porque era muy chico de edad ,gracias SOY OSCAR de RIO CUARTO CBA;fanático de los BEATLES desde los 4 años de edad ....GRACIAS

    this truely is a "Coming Up' version of Stevie Wonder! AND check out Linda. She was so pretty but really played it down, so her husband would get all the atention, even as looks go. She really was his SOULMATE. SHE WAS & ALWAYS WILL BE [ THE LOVELY LINDA] R.I.P. WE MISS U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    lol the beatles always gave him shit for the excessive growling post 1967. The studio version of this Is straight clean, but he just couldn't replicate the same quality of sound in live sessions. Still a nice tune, huh?

      You're kidding! Coming Up is one of the greatest live tracks ever. The problem is this nasty 90s version they're playing. Listen to the version he played on Letterman a few years ago and you'll see what I mean.

      I think you have to actually have to hear it live at an actual concert in order to judge it. The way its mixed for the TV here kinda takes the weight out of it.

      5x14" Noble & Cooley Classic Snare. Evans heads, high tuning. Shame on the 80's recording systems that never captured the real sound of it, but trust me, it sounded amazing.
