I've been tempted, but although we've got plenty of hills around here, they're not very long/high. So the closest I can think of is just 200+ elevation. That means 40++ repetitions. Guessing I can climb it in my sleep at the end :)
Can I just say I think these "personal" GCN videos are utterly, utterly brilliant. Loved this, loved Si's KOM challenge etc....they're great, keep 'em coming!
100% agree, loved both videos and they really support the idea that cycling is about beating your own personal goals, whether that's riding an hour without stopping or doing an Everest.
Uhhhh that IS average. I put out more than that since I race and stuff but for the average bloke who was never a pro, it seems like the kind of power I'd be putting out
@@dan_lazaro maybe for the average bloke who's 200 pounds - maybe. And then again, not necessarily for 15+ hours. Keep in mind the 250 watts are VERY EASY intensity.
I read your comment before I got to that point in the video - and you're right. A big-sisterly kind of pride on her face. Thanks for spotting that and sharing with us.
Her supportiveness (and the rest of the team too) in this video is honestly heartwarming. Like the way she was talking him up while riding next to him, and the way she pushes him off for the final lap. Really lovely to watch
I thought 5 yrs ago, & still think she is or was into the guy, & why not? One of the better climbers of her generation wouldn’t be all that impressed with climbing a hill, but Ollie has to work for it in a way that more gifted athletes don’t. Emma is a doctoral-level engineer that can appreciate Ollie’s academic & professional achievements, & the work he’s put into being a strong rider as well. My brother was like that. He wasn’t particularly talented at anything, but he never failed to achieve what he wanted because he did the work - he did the math, he did the laps, he put in the time, & he just never gave up on anything. Ollie reminds me of my brother like nobody else ever has, & Emma is clearly attracted to that kind of strength & character. She’s an accomplished woman with standards, right? I totally get it.
Ollie - This is your best video ever. Why? The opening monologue was from your heart. Your true feelings and how much this meant to you were not hidden as you put yourself out there for all of us to see. Honestly, I am often drawn to GCN for the silly stuff. Falling down, failing to clip in, what not to ______ on a ride, endless suffering, 10 ways to ______ and how to eject snot-rockets are some of my favorites. They make me smile. This one brings a different emotion: Respect Congratulations! We’re all glad that on that day you were not [cycling weakly].
I want someone to look at me the way Emma looked at Ollie in the end of the video. Absolutely love to see an "average" Person like Ollie in between the ex-professionals
Ollie, you may not be blessed with the genetics of a ‘pro’, but based on this and you ‘Project 49’ vid, your mental fortitude, determination and integrity is world class. Great effort boss!
Do you have to choose a proper hill? Could I just go around my BMX pump track a bunch of time and add the height of each little 3 foot hump I go over? Lmao
Awesome. I did my first metric century (a drop in the bucket for many GCN viewers) this past weekend... the longest I'd ever ridden, and I was really proud of what I'd accomplished. What you did, Ollie, is a whole other level and some, but I think what you said about personal challenges and pushing limits was totally on the mark. And to be met at the end by such a great crew topped it off. Well done, bravo.
Great to see Ollie in his element and partnering with Emma was brilliant. The human story weaved into this episode transcends the basics of the Everest; resonating the thrill, fear, and struggle many enthusiasts, including myself, would imagine facing on this ride. Kudos on the achievement and the genuine manner in which you shared your experience.
The end of this video brought me tears. I love you, Ollie. Keep pushing yourself, keep challenging yourself- this is why we're all cycling! Thanks, mate, for such an inspirational video.
I know this is a really late post but I have been catching up on some older GCN videos and found this. As a huge Ollie fan, I am extremely proud of his efforts and completing this challenge. Well done Ollie. Hall of Famer!!! Nice.
Absolutely amazing, I just started cycling a month ago but I hope that one day I can complete my own everesting! This is so inspiring, congratulations :)
"I have no genetic gift"..."I'm just sitting at an easy zone 2 heart rate which is 250w". Well, which one is it? Liked seeing Emma and Ollie in this video, seemed like good friendship and support going on.
Ollie, that was truly inspirational. I used to watch CW because of your content, and having you join the GCN team has just been the best thing ever. Love watching your videos and content. Watching you do this was great inspiration for us weekend warriors who do this because we love it. I live in a flat place and this summer I went on my first bike trip and managed to climb a mountain (1100m @ 11%), I thought that was the hardest thing I had ever done. Ollie you have inspired me to set a new goal for next season. Cheers from Canada
Well done Ollie - I've done an Everest so know the dull pain you went through - and the slight anti climax feeling at the end of it, then the lack of motivation to do anything afterwards - so big ups lads !!!
I have been training for a sportive in Virginia and came down with pneumonia and have been off the bike for 3 weeks recovering and missed the event. I have been watching old and new GCN video's to pass the time and thanks to Ollie, I got a new challenge to reach for. I'll keep you guys informed and congratulations to Ollie on a job well done!
I rode the Arizona Challenge covering about 18,000 feet of climbing in a 325 mile course in central AZ. I was not the first or the best to do it, but I love that I did it. My first try got me about 200 miles distance with all the major climbs done. I quit at the top of the highest point at Mingus Mt. The next year 1982 I did it in 23 3/4 hours, helped other riders the next year and improved my time in 1984 to 23 hours. I believe the last official event was 1985 or 86. Great job Ollie, you have memories that will last.
To all the folks at GCN, ive watched almost every episode from the past 4 years by far the best video ever! I have watched it 2 times now on repeat and have goosebumps everytime! This was amazing! Well done everyone! Keep up the great work!!!!
I have seen a ton of videos and GCN has some of the best. This one was unequivocally the BEST in content and mental fortitude. Ollie you knocked it out of the park, may you reflect on how much your single accomplishment has meant to so many viewers. You should be so proud of the impact your efforts will have on so many in the weeks, months and likely years ahead! I for one will set goals that truly challenge me and think of you with each and every moment. You, are a remarkable man, I hope you will reflect on that for a very long time to come.
Over a year later, I'm just seeing this video. Ollie, what a massive effort that was, and what an inspiration to all of us "average" cyclists. A beautiful video that highlighted the best of what cycling can offer: pushing one's own physical limits, trying new things, and having an incredible group of friends and supports. As a new cyclist, I haven't said "chapeau" to anyone yet, but this video deserves the first. Chapeau, Ollie!!!
GCN crew everesting challenge next? Absolutely loved this vid. I can relate to Ollie with being absolutely average but just love how cycling has made me challenge myself. Just finished my first century. Now want to try my first proper mt climb so went to a local small hill this morning to do hillclimb reps to start building my climbing legs. Only did 3 reps which killed my legs. It takes 60 reps for an everesting. Have a long way to go, but determined to get stronger.
Ollie has just become my favourite GCN presenter! Finally GCN has started to show what real cycling is about, pain sweat and above all satisfaction of achieving something not necessarily for everyone, but personally big!
Man, that put the "mental" in "monumental"!!! What an amazing achievement. That is definitely something to be justifiably proud of. I'm with you Ollie, I love the individual achievement factor of cycling, even as you said if it's only 50 miles, for some cyclists that is something they never thought they'd be able to do, so achieving your goal, however big or small, is a wonderful feeling. And we should all encourage each other no matter the size of the achievement, but celebrate when a fellow cyclist achieves their goal :-)
After seeing this, I’m not only tempted, but determined, to complete an everesting challenge. Awesome job, in every way. Special nod to whoever scored the video. The music was brilliant! Thanks for the most inspiration I’ve experienced in years.
Well done Ollie, truly impressive! You're an inspiration to other 'remarkably average' cyclists who like to push their bodies to the limit for no apparent reason other than to see how far they can stretch themselves.
Ollie you are just a real fella, cycling the hills most of us struggle up once. Good on you for just pushing on. Nothing worthwhile is easy, I learned that very much when I had my own challenges in the Army.
Amazingly effort made Ollie! A small step in the bike history is often a big step personally and Ollie give himself a feeling of pride who is only understandable if you self do it. Thanks Ollie and thanks GCN!
Cant expess enough how unbelievable everesting is. Everytime i hear of someone completing this challenge just leaves me gobsmacked. Well done ollie u legend. 💪⛰️
Ollie, that was just amazing. What an effort, and what a video. The way Emma was looking at you at the end was the way any of us would have been if we had been lucky enough to be there. A mixture of pride and awe and shared happiness. Well done, mate. One of GCN's best vids ever.
What an achievement!! I have attempted 2 everests and failed both time. The hunger for achieving an everest has only grown bigger for me. MASSIVE JUDOS TO THIS!
This is sick ! Ollie you're an absolute badman ! Hats off to you ! + You've made another brilliant video, that carries the whole essence of why we ride !
Ollie, I came back and watched this for a second time. I had a brief moment of insanity, and for a couple of days I was thinking about giving this a go. Nope... my sanity has come back. I don't know how you did it. I have the up most respect for you. I really enjoyed coming back to watch your attempt and from now on, every time I start to have this mad idea to give it a go, I'll watch this to set my mind straight.
Those five seconds where you roll in, Emma looks at you with admiration and a little bit of concern, that was incredible. So beautiful! Cracking ride man. Ollie I hope you know and enjoy how your friends are proud of you. Well done mate, well done. Such an achievement, and you made a great video as well, massive kudos
Congratulations, Ollie! Fantastic achievement. And thanks for your words about setting and achieving goals -- last weekend, I completed my first hundred miler, with about 1800 metres of climb. Hardest ride I've done yet, and yep, I finished in the almost-dark on dead legs. But like you, I'll never forget the experience. Hope you're recovering well.
Ollie, you and Emma are the BEST things that have happened to GCN. Don’t get me wrong, love Si and everyone else! You two are such a great addition! Keep pushin the boundaries GCN you guys are killin it!👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Absolutely awesome! You may feel yourself to be "average", but you proved you are not. Good on you for your extraordinary accomplishment! Great video, and great inspiration to go out and achieve our own goals.
And to any members of the GCN team, I live near Kyoto and I know some great cycling courses (including cat 3 hill climbs) So let me know if you are ever coming this area.
@@OllieBridgewood I saw the vid with you and Si the day after...you looked tired for sure and I'm not surprised....I can't imagine what it felt like...not sure I would have managed 12 ascents on my motorbike let alone on my Bike... I am still 500 m off Everest challenge on Zwift....lol...
Chapeau Ollie! Also, the improvements to GCN Videos this year is marked! The B-roll footage is amazing, including all the drone footage! Also, the editing and audio tracks have also been elevated! Truly loving what you're putting out these days! I do miss hearing Matt's laugh though, but everybody on the team is really meshing nicely and contributing to a great end product! Keep it up and keep showing us those wonderful cycling destinations that we have to keep dreaming about!
Would give several thumbs up if I could awesome job Ollie so inspiring, I think I'd be tired with just one ascent so the perspective of doing it 12 times is mind boggling 😱
Well done Ollie! Brilliant!! Save the date: Friday 26/05/2023 Passo Valparola in the Giro. A must-watch, as the stage takes in some incredible scenery and climbs: Passo Campolongo, Passo Valparola (I can confirm from personal experience that the last section is very tough - and even more beautiful), passes by the top of Passo Falzarego, turns right to descend the steep pass that passes the ancient castle of Andraz, to then tackle Passo Giau from the west (very tough indeed); then the descent of Giau (the unparalleled beauty of the Dolomites backdrop of the pyramid-shaped Tofana di Rozes and the Lastoi di Formin on each side), swooping down to Cortina; then up Passo Tre Croci, before finishing of up the very steep ascent to the base of the Tre Cime. Anyone who's ridden any of these passes knows it's going to be a real treat!
Just about one and a half week ago I stood at the Valparola when doing an expanded version of the sellaronda. Only did 3000m of elevation that day. It felt plenty. Can't imagine doing so much on one day. Thanks for inspiring and bringing up the fondest memories!
Emma is such a great person. I could really hear her say "oh boys, lets support him, I will ride with him in the hardest morning" And Ollie, I've got tears in my eyes, seeing you completing this. Amazing job, amazing ride, amazing tactic. Even Peter S. would be proud :)
Would you be tempted to attempt an everesting?
If I had a climb close to me, I'll be going right now!
I live near the Chilterns. I'm 90kg.
No.
I've been tempted, but although we've got plenty of hills around here, they're not very long/high. So the closest I can think of is just 200+ elevation. That means 40++ repetitions. Guessing I can climb it in my sleep at the end :)

Hardest ride I've done yet, and yep, I finished in the almost-dark on dead legs. But like you, I'll never forget the experience. Hope you're recovering well.
James Woods great work James! I can remember my first century too 👊
From one Yorkshire man to another well done old luv even thou your from Donny.
One of the BEST GCN videos - ever! ...and superb Sagan impression! Thanks, Ollie!
Well done Ollie!!! & "Don't choke, that could ruin it", hahahaha! Emma is so funny :-)
Hats off to you Ollie! Wish I could mash the “like button” once for every meter climbed. Well done sir.
Seriously impressive and well done. At just under one sixth of an Everest I am some way off. However, I was pleased to Ben Nevis on that ride.
Just incredible this video. Hats off you're a legend Ollie . And so nice of you collegues to support you during the ride.
Im crying bruh.
Ollie, you and Emma are the BEST things that have happened to GCN. Don’t get me wrong, love Si and everyone else! You two are such a great addition! Keep pushin the boundaries GCN you guys are killin it!👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Legend .. tears to my eyes 😁
And how cool was Emma !
“Look at the state of this Climb, it’s it’s outrageous” pure exhaustion comment. Love it! Congrats mate!
Plot twist: Emma does is faster and take his hall of fame position
Brandon Hill 😂😂😂
Emma is too kind and supportive to do that to Ollie 😀
Oliver, I have so much respect for what you have just done - flipping brilliant.
Well done Ollie, you should be proud. Immortalised in the Everesting hall of fame.
Absolutely awesome! You may feel yourself to be "average", but you proved you are not. Good on you for your extraordinary accomplishment! Great video, and great inspiration to go out and achieve our own goals.
Cheers Dean! What a long day...
And to any members of the GCN team, I live near Kyoto and I know some great cycling courses (including cat 3 hill climbs)
So let me know if you are ever coming this area.
Absolutely impressive Ollie!
Seeing you push yourself so hard for a goal you were adamant to reach gave me shivers.
Great job!
Utter respect and admiration for anyone who does an Everest. Hell of an achievement...so how were the legs 2 days later...;-) kudos Ollie.
bassmandudge in bits! Even more so because I went out filming with Oscar, Emma, Opie and Si and had to keep up with them 😬🤦♂️😂😂😂😂
@@OllieBridgewood I saw the vid with you and Si the day after...you looked tired for sure and I'm not surprised....I can't imagine what it felt like...not sure I would have managed 12 ascents on my motorbike let alone on my Bike... I am still 500 m off Everest challenge on Zwift....lol...
Great Video. I like that you included the "getting the kit ready for tomorrow" part
Very proud of my fellow Yorkshire man!!!!!!!
"it'll be reet"
Well done dood, take care 😁👍
Was lovely to see Si there with a beer 🍻 for you!
Kudos to you Ollie! "All my batteries are dead", I know how you feel buddy! Ride on! Tim
Just about one and a half week ago I stood at the Valparola when doing an expanded version of the sellaronda. Only did 3000m of elevation that day. It felt plenty. Can't imagine doing so much on one day. Thanks for inspiring and bringing up the fondest memories!
Well done Ollie! I would have been smashed after one rep.
Emma is such a great person. I could really hear her say "oh boys, lets support him, I will ride with him in the hardest morning"
And Ollie, I've got tears in my eyes, seeing you completing this. Amazing job, amazing ride, amazing tactic. Even Peter S. would be proud :)
