Brilliant thanks Chloe. Did my first comp in July and found it a complete learning experience , picked up so much and along with the tips suggested in this video I will take into my next competition. I’ve got more miles on the clock than I once had, and I’m in remission from cancer but for my physical and mental health I’m loving it and have no plans on stopping soon ..
Great advice! I love the idea of setting personal goals because win or lose a competition, you have a chance to display improvement, and that can be a big morale boost if you meet those goals. Morale is everything.
100% agree with this I completed my 1st comp and in training I failed an 80kg stiff bar ftoh and in the comp I got my 1 rep pb for me my whole day was done what came after it was a win 😂
Agree with all your tips and advice. Have been a fan of Strongman since i was a little kid in the 80's and found a Strongman Gym in my 40's and was completely out of shape! Started out just playing with the stuff I had always seen but never thought I would ever get a chance to get hands on with (Giant Tires/Logs/Yokes/Atlas Stones etc...) just kept going back and playing with everything. Then started keeping track and trying to better my previous numbers. Then, found out my gym hosts Official Strongman comps a couple times a year and thought "What an amazing opportunity to actually DO what I have watched!!" Found out the events and weights and was happy to see I was mostly capable of doing the weights (All the events were for reps, and the weights were basically my 1RM, but I could do it) and still had time to train. So I just kept doing an event a day (5 events over 5 days) and building the weights up. My PRIMARY goal was not to get a 0 in any event. My secondary goal was not to come last. I accomplished both goals. Came 13th out of 15 and hit multiple PB's!!! Honestly, Ill brag a bit and say I SMASHED my training numbers! Examples: Best 500lbs 18" Deadlift for reps in training was 4. I got 8 reps in comp and that is with stopping because i felt my calf muscle twitching and thought It was spasm. So just waited to see what it was gonna do and then got a couple more. In the Keg Overhead Press for reps I wasnt able to do the 175lb keg training until the week before. 5 months of training and couldn't do it. It flew up in te comp!! BUT, I switched to the 150lb anyway because that was the plan and I know from watching Big Loz not to deviate from your plan. Ended up getting that for i think 8 reps. In training I was only able to get 5 reps in the alotted time without even doing the 175 first, so yeah, had an absute BLAST!! And even though im the type of person that just constantly thinks of all the things I did wrong or what I could have done better, it was still one of the best experiences of my life. I will add another tip though, if it is your first comp, make sure you have the next 2 days off!! Trust me!! You're going to feel like you got hit by a tractor trailer and drug underneath for a while... but in a good way 😉🤣
Hey Chloe, think you're awesome, would love a video on recovery and how you deal with injuries. Congratulations on all your success, you're one Britain's best!
One thing I learnt in my first comp was if you wear a belt for moving events like yoke or farmers, have it slightly less tight then normal so you can brace but still breath whilst running. Whilst carrying the yoke I thought I was going to be sick and it definitely hindered my performance.
The problem I have is not warming up too early. First events are never on time and you never seem to know in time where you are in the order. You could be 1 of 20 and undercooked or 20 of 20 and you have to extend your warm up.

Great vid!! Are you interested in doing the Shaw Classic open? My fam and I would love to see you compete in person
Done some stuff and won some stuff is massively under selling your accomplishments
You can say that again 😂

Good advice thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
You should try kicking bag or just boxing in home.
In the words of Big Loz, for your first comps, learn and enjoy!
Indeed!
Hel yeah!
❤ first comment
a lot of vice word
to eat something else than sweets?? Are you crazy ?
Think I've gotten to old
Do you mean competing in strongwoman? That name has to change 😅
It’s the sport of strongman 🤷🏻♀️ the content is applicable for anyone 😃😃
No training no activity just bla bla bla boring video
Nope, it is just simply targeting intelligent people who can use some advices based on an athlete's own experiences.
