    It's about an old, lonely lady who prepares her birthday party but none of her kids (or anyone else for that matter) show up. They call her on the phone and give lame excuses that they are caught up, thought it was another day etc, she says it's ok, but she's hurting inside. It's all very sad. I believe many people are in her situation.

      Very to-the-point description.
      This song is one of the few that completely wrecks me... every... time.
      ...and I don't even have kids.
      There's only one other song that gets me as much... and it's "I en sal på lasarettet"

    Many have already wrote the basic meaning of the song which is really sad and beautiful, but I also think the line "nej, det gör ingenting, om det är nåt bara ring, för jag finns ju här var dag" is brilliant, and by mine interpretation basically means "it's okay that you forgot my birthday, if you need anything, just give me a call, I'm still gonna be here for you, every single day" and shows that she will still always be there for her kids even when she's being let down and hurt and not getting anything back which pictures the unconditional love most parents have for their kids.

    • @legobil_
      @legobil_ 2 года назад +5

      Exactly, and “du kunde inte komma ifrån” is basically the interpretation that they are busy, stick at work or something. As someone else wrote, a lame excuse when dear mom has her birthday.

    For the song ‘O helga natt’ Jussi Björling is THE singer to react to.
    He actually was quite famous in the US during the 30’s and 40’s.

    It was the womans birthday. She bought cake and sherry, made coffee - she"s waiting for her three children to come. One after another calls to say that they can't come = kan inte komma ifrån, and that they mistook the day. She answers that she understand but when the third Child calls (the daughter) there is nothing more to understand for the old woman. It's really so sad...she was waiting and nobody came. At least they all called, and that's positive....
    Christer Sjögren can really sing! Another dansband singer that is good is Sten Nilsson from Sten och Stanley. 💖

      The first time I heard this song, I thought that the line "En trött gammal kvinna somnar in" (A tired old woman falls asleep) meant that she died, because we normally don't include the word "in" when we are talking about a person just falling asleep. But then it comes out that she is alive to take the daughters call. Still, it's a very sad song.

    Yes, absolutely one of the sadest songs i ever heard. Builds up a lot of feelings. I got friends who shuts radio off when it's playing on air du to strong emotions. The song contains an important message to take care of those who have taken care of you and brought you up.
    I am sure you would react differently if you could follow the story. Talk with your wife about it 🙂
    It's definitely a banger, but a very sad and soft one. Good choice!

    Du måste ta Jussi Björlings version av helga natt! När de frågade Pavarotti vem som är den bästa operasångaren genom tiderna sa han: Jussi Björling. “When I'm learning a new opera roll, I first listen to how Jussi Björling sang it. His voice was unique. I wish more than anything that people compare me with Jussi.”

    The song is about an old lady who`s hosting her own birthdaypart. She buys some cake, liquor and preps for her chilenen to come visiting. And as the song goes by, her kids calling and tell that they cant make it. And as the song ends the cake is still on the table, and the candles burnt out, and she falls asleep. A really sad song about taking your loved ones for granted.

  • @DaP84
    @DaP84 2 года назад +8

    ROFL ;D No, it's her big day (birthday or similar) and she had prepared so much for it. But all of her kids comes with excuses for not showing up, all told her they mixed up the day. "Kan inte komma ifrån" = can't abandon current commitment. But the line "hon somnade in", makes one think of she passing, and as a juxtaposition to the repeated line "jag finns alltid kvar här". I think it's a clever, intended double for a sentimental "you don't know what you got till it's gone" kinda theme

    I've never been fond of this genre but it's a part of your childhood. I guess most Swedes are familiar with "Guldbruna ögon" whether they like it or not. Dansband was the shit in the 70's. In almost every workplace there was somebody who played in a dansband. The groups looked dorky with names like Larz-Kristerz but they had fun and that's all that matters. Sven-Ingvars is like a bridge between those who like that music and those who don't. Everybody likes him.

    • @Huxteble
      @Huxteble 2 года назад +1

      Larz-Kristerz är ju ett nutida band med ett ironiskt valt namn för att flörta med 70-talsdansbandstilen. Det kanske fanns fler på 70-talet men dansband hör inte till 70-talet. Det har alltid varit, och är fortfarande, stort med dansband på landsbygden.

    • @jerryhall5709
      @jerryhall5709 2 года назад

      @@Huxteble Jag menar inte att det inte skulle vara populärt längre men på 70-talet var det hett. Min pappa hade en kollega som var med i ett dansband. Minns fortfarande deras vita platåtofflor eller något sådant. Jo jag anade att Larz-Kristerz var ironiskt. Lyssnade på dem. Faktiskt riktigt bra.

    Sången handlar om att mamman fyller år och förväntar sig att barnen ska komma och fira henne, men istället ringer dom och säger att dom inte kan komma och skyller på att dom glömt eller tagit fel på dag men att dom egentligen inte vill komma.. Mamman sitter ensam utan att något av barnen kommer gratulerar henne. Meningen med texten är att man ska tänka på sina gamla föräldrar.

    Det här är en av de sorgligaste sånger jag vet. Gråter nästan varje gång jag hör den. Kvinnan fyller år och väntar på sina barn men ingen kommer för de har ”glömt bort” vilken dag det var ( kvinnans födelsedag). Refrängen är kvinnans ord som vi hör eftersom vi inte hör vad hennes barn säger och hur hon inte säger hur ledsen hon blir.

    Probably should pass on Tommy K for the next one in favor of Jussi, as many have suggested. (Or do both.) Tommy's version is good of course, smooth and easy listening, a bit of power. Not like Jussi's though. Jussi Björling had a connection to the USA by the way. Apparently he sang at the Metropolitan Opera for fifteen seasons from 1938, when he made his debut to rave reviews. Also he toured the US almost twenty years earlier with his father and brother at the age of eight.

But you should listen to the text as if you where sittning in the same room listening to what she replies, she is repeating the words she gets from her children. "jaha säger du det, du tog fel på vilken dag det var..... ..., nej det gör ingen ting...." but inside of her she is verry sad that they did forgot. "En trött gammal kvinna somnar in...", I've always taken this to imply that the old woman is taking an overdose of sleeping pills in order to never wake up again; a kind of bittersweet revenge against her selfish and uncaring kids, but perhaps that's just my morbid imagination...

    Kanske en av dom sorgligaste låtar jag vet. Särskilt när man vet att hos vissa ringer det inte ens.

    This is awful but funny & not to forget very much function music for pair dance so its artistic quality maybe not is the best (the dansbands lovers are probably gonna kill me now) 😁

      I'd say it's one choice of many good songs they've made. Probably many suggestions for this song and it's hard to choose when you don't know anything about Vikingarna and their songs.
