The kind you liked were regular dark red cherries. Thank you for promoting our markets online and for saying we keep everything clean. That's good to know.

'Cerb' means 'stag'. Good choice though. Those red cranberries 'coacaze' that grow like grapes are actually currants, but romanians tend to mix up the names (or they're outright reversed in some regions). You missed out on some really good peaches (those big and dark ones are sweeter than any doughnut peach in the world, but unless you cut them with a knife, you'll make a mess of your face). If you're ever in a Romanian market again, look for black cherries - they're their own species, smaller and actually black. Those are THE sweetest cherries (unless it's the bitter type used more in jams and drinks, but those are sold separately). You found a decent strain there though. The 'nectarines' are actually apricots. Nectarines are a bit larger and meatier, and not as sweet (you can recognize them by their red color and lack of fuzz). 'Burduf' is traditional sheep cheese Glad to see you enjoy the place!
Sour cherries make the best liqueur ever (vișinata) - a traditional drink in Romania, well loved by the ladies. They are also loved fresh, as preserves, or as toppings for pies, tarts and cakes.

The thing that looks like cellery with a bulb at the bottom is actually cellery and the bulb is called cellery root. It is really good as a salad shaved fine with nuts like walnuts, or in a soup or as a mashed. The really sour red berries are red currents and beside them are black currents
Bucharest was the "PARIS OF THE BALKANS" with a lot of french influences, between the two world wars. However, French and Romanian are romance languages with latin roots....That explains the presence of lots of french terminology in the Romanian language.

Cerb - deer. I was guessing. It's "cervus" in Latin. I was hanging in there to see if there was any donkey sausage, like in Hungary. My Hungarian friend once assured me that "it's a meal in itself".
there is but not as common, not nowadays at least, when comunism took over, they confiscated all animals but not the donkeys, the number of donkeys exploded because it was the only animal you could own for a few good years in Romania a saying appeared: "the donkey is the only non communist animal" so often, "donkey" was used as an insult for capitalists, next to the usual "pig" ofc
@@PopescuSorin Thank you. We can also say "hart" or "buck" for the male deer. "Hind" or "doe" for the female. The question is, however, which makes the better sausage? @@naru3443 Thanks na Ru. Please tell us why the communists confiscated all the other farmyard beasts? To make sausages for the party leaders? There was a scandal some time back about Romania changing its road laws such that horses and donkeys could no longer be driven or ridden on public thoroughfares. This, they said, led immediately to all the horses and donkeys being sold to the abbatoirs and their flesh being sold in France and the UK as beef. Was there any truth in all of that?
@@PopescuSorin The benefits of learning a dead language, Latin. You can guess that "cerb" in Romanian means a male deer, "cervus" in Latin. How about this in Proto- Romanian (Latin)? “Sicut CERVUS desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.” (Psalm 42) I'd love to see that in good Romanian! "As the hart yearns for streams of water, so my soul is yearning for you, O God" Palestrina's musical setting of it was a real beauty. (See below)

Oh this market is amazing!!! Want to get that lavender! Such an exciting place indeed!!! Yes, I've seen and eaten donut peaches in Toronto!!! Over there the freshness and prices are so good too! The red one is red currant and that is sour for sure!
I live like 10 minutes away from that market but I rarely shop there. Since you can only pay cash and I prefer to use my debit card.
Who knew it took a foreigner travel video to convince me to go there more often.
@@missmaddy I live 5 minutes away too. Maybe we go together to make the walk more interesting :P :) Have a nice day !
Yous pair crack me up... Patters brilliant... Keep them coming 👌
A day at a local fresh market is always a good day.The colors, the smell and the myriad of taste..I can almost smell the lavender and taste the peaches from here.
You are missing our local fruits season here. There is a glut of mangosteens, rambutans and the durian prices have never been so low...at least in Terengganu. I had a whole durian to myself today and thought of you Saiful.
Ivana your hair is looking gorgeous.
yes, of course we miss those fruits esp. durian!!!
Thanks Zuraida!
Usually i dont subscribe to these kind of channels but u guys are too funny and i watched all ur videos from Bucharest, and i subscribed! 🔝🔝
Thanks Tommy!!!!😁
Ahh back after so long took a break from social media because of my exams came back and realised that i have alot of vlogs of you guys piled up and now iam gonna grab some popcorn and enjoy😁
Hope your exams went well!!
Welcome back😊
@@JetLagWarriors yes thankyou!
I like the fruit market there!
I would have eaten these fruits for breakfast , lunch n dinner!
yesss you would love shopping here!!!
As a Romanian living abroad, this video made me tear up.
I miss so much the Romanian market.
This is just amazing! You guys are so cute and amazing and seeing you two talk to the merchants it's just so nice :)
Yeah guys, you did the right thing! It's the biggest local market with vendors from all over the country. The scent I associate to Romanian markets is the fresh dill. They wouldn't allow taking pics. I've asked a security guy and he confirmed that recording would be prohibited. It's weird because it's a public space in a EC country, Romanians were so keen to become members of.
Enjoyed the video. The market is full of fresh fruits. Lovely. ❤️
The pepper and cabbage is actually just soured so you can eat it as a side for the main course. Cheers
Those salty elk sausages go well with beer.
awesome natural food...
the best
Good job guys! I love your RUclips traveling videos! Keep on traveling!
Thanks!!😊
You need to visit Bucovina from Romania!!!
soon!!
Interesting Market.... As usual, every country you visit ,different things you'll find or see in the markets. Assorted fruit, assorted meats.. LOL Stay safe, happy exploring
yeah!! Love exploring the local market
Romania is one of the poorest countries and richest at the same time, the culture is impressive, like nowhere else but definitely in some places you will need a romanian friend.you will save money.love the videos btw.keep it up
yes, a good description. Romania is rich!!
Loving your channel! You're helping me plan my trip to Romania later this year.
Blue, Cascaval, Cheddar, Cottage, Emmental, Mozarella Cheese are amazing.
The thing that looks like cellery with a bulb at the bottom is actually cellery and the bulb is called cellery root. It is really good as a salad shaved fine with nuts like walnuts, or in a soup or as a mashed. The really sour red berries are red currents and beside them are black currents
wow wondering why we don’t eat the roots in Canada!! Only the stalk…🤔
Coacăze - blackcurrants
Afine - blueberries
Coacăze roșii/merișoare - cranberries
Steve, you’re doing ALL the sampling…..Ivana is stuck filming and you eating! Poor Ivana😂😂😂
😂😂😂
I think Ivana was sampling too with her free hand
Bucharest was the "PARIS OF THE BALKANS" with a lot of french influences, between the two world wars. However, French and Romanian are romance languages with latin roots....That explains the presence of lots of french terminology in the Romanian language.
I wish more people traveled to my home country. i miss it. would love to show you all around Brasov
Omg I love the fruits there
Wooow...visine...sour cheries....missing in Canada
Super! Curat si se gaseste tot ce vrei. Mancare gustoasa
The first "cherries " you tried were sour cherries "vişine". As beer i recommend Ciuc, you should really try it, one of the few that don't use corn in the making process. If you are still in Bucharest i would be happy to meet with you and act as a guide/translator if you want to as a local, i am not a professional but i can show you around a bit especially if you are curious about the revolution and some more history about Bucharest and interesting buildings. I am a student.
Nice market... enjoy!
Cerb - deer. I was guessing. It's "cervus" in Latin.
I was hanging in there to see if there was any donkey sausage, like in Hungary.
My Hungarian friend once assured me that "it's a meal in itself".
there is but not as common, not nowadays at least, when comunism took over, they confiscated all animals but not the donkeys, the number of donkeys exploded because it was the only animal you could own for a few good years in Romania
a saying appeared: "the donkey is the only non communist animal" so often, "donkey" was used as an insult for capitalists, next to the usual "pig" ofc
indeed, "cerb" is a stag (a male deer)
@@PopescuSorin Thank you. We can also say "hart" or "buck" for the male deer. "Hind" or "doe" for the female. The question is, however, which makes the better sausage?
Over here (Malaysia) we can get deer meat (venison).in not a few of our Chinese restaurants, but not the sausage. How about Romanian people? Do they like venison?
“Sicut CERVUS desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.” (Psalm 42)
I'd love to see that in good Romanian!
"As the hart yearns for streams of water, so my soul is yearning for you, O God"
Palestrina's musical setting of it was a real beauty. (See below)
I hope you're enjoying your trip in my country 🇷🇴
we loooove Romania❤️🇹🇩❤️🇹🇩
LOL! "American football shaped cheese"?! You guys are awesome.
@14:11 that cease you eat with polenta fried sausages and egs, it is a bit spicy and salty !
At 12:06 are pickles cabage and pepers, ready to eat with heavy meat like jumari - pork skin
More like pork rind
@@ardeiuti yep
oh yummmm that sounds delicious!
Thoroughly entertaining! Loved the CoacăzE spot on pronounciation 😂
WOOOW! I love your Football Association of Malaysia 🇲🇾 jersey 😃😃😃👋👋👋👋. Thanks for promoting my beautiful country 🙏🇲🇾👍😀
You guys should check the Bucharest Terminus Station, romania has routes Bucharest - Budapest Keleti
cool! Thanks for the suggestion!
Should have tried the "football cheese" on camera to see your reaction. It's really different, very sharp and mostly used for cooking. Nice video.
You guys are so funny, I never imagined a foreigner in a Romanian market 🤣, the veggies and fruits are brilliant there, no chemicals like the ones from supermarkets, I actually need to go out from France into Italy to get local groceries
Yayy! Market video!
My favourite market experience was in Melbourne. Victoria Market
we love Malaysian market too! With all the kuih
That is the largest market in the southern half of the world, apparently.
I think they're calling it the "Queen Victoria Market" these days.
(Connection with Romania: Queen Empress Victoria was the great grandmother of King Michael, previously king of Romania)
one day we will check it out👍
1:15 So I live in London UK and I see this very often. So many people don't know how Celery looks like. And even more don't know what is Celeriac and how it looks like. Celeriac is just the root of Celery and this is how it looks like. You are Welcome!
Smellevision for me please! I love markets like this! Donut peaches good shout! I love them but too pricey in Malaysia. Enjoy your fruits, cheese and meat all day err day! Livin the life man!
you have the donut peaches in Malaysia??
@@JetLagWarriors not homegrown but imported ones. 🤣
In UK you can get them relatively cheap and they're sooo sweet and delicious 😋
Love my country... tasty food... people are nice... and so much to see in the entire country...problem is that our politicians doesent care about our country...they care just to grow the wallets
Min. 3:23 - donut peaches cost 3.99$C / lb in Canada
Piața Obor = Obor Market is the BEST in Bucharest City.
Min. 16:04 - sour cherry = vișine (read as : vihsheneh) costed me 30 $C for 3.6 Kg picked by myself in an orchard. In that market cost you ONLY 5.90 lei / Kg = 1.80 $C. The difference is amazing.
Hi, if you liked the Bucharest subway, you must visit M4, the green line because there you can see the oldest subway trains in Bucharest, some of these trains have some interesting graffiti. Have a nice trip to Romania!
4:39 the fruit is red and black currants; eaten fresh, as preserves (jam), or turned into wine or liqueur.
Or Ribena (the black one)?
The fruits at the market are organic and natural mostly and cheaper than those at the supermarket. Plus fruit and veggies at supermarket are GMO and greenhouse produce.
Hello, guys. I'm glad you visited a local farm in Romania. Local farmers and producers have problems with legal policies in here because they can't sold their stuff in supermarkets so the local markets are the best place we can support their work. Thank you for visiting our country. Hope you like it here!
U should go visit Carol Park (parcul Carol) on the top of thatitd a very big statue and i have to climb some stairs but the view its impressive from up side :)
oh good suggestion. Thanks!
I used to buy from the same market with my family.
wowowow we followed your footsteps
Saiful in his yellow jersey, nice t-shirt.
You guys went to Obor market and didn't go and eat at the most famous "Mici" at terasa obor ? They are like the best mici in Bucharest . I feel bad for you that you missed that , it was near the market and you could taste some of the most famous mici in romania .
I agree fully. Well, may be not the best mici in town but very popular. Round the corner at "La Platou" are the best mici in the Obor area according to my opinion.
Those jumari are actually pork scratchings, and you should've got some fresh cheese with that cerb, witch is deer, male deer . And it would've been great to have some fresh onions ,tomatoes and some fresh peppers with that cheese and cerb, and forest blueberries ...Man, you guys have great taste , even tho you didn't really knew what you were doing :)))
Guys... Jumari is pork fat deep fried and it s delicious with bread, fresh green onions and sheep cheese. and the deer salami you can also eat it with bread, sheep cheese and tomatoes, or you can put it in sandwiches...
Omg I’m definitely adding this place to our Bucharest itinerary 😍
Very Amazing City - Wow
Peach is my favorite fruit! Wow... the flat peach is interesting..!
yummm I think you miss peaches❤️
@@JetLagWarriors yup! I would choose peach over durian...😆
Mine also Crystal.
