Earl is always thinking of ways to avoid skid shots, or kicks as we call them in the Anglosphere. An underappreciated, or more so, misunderstood aspect of billiard games. Other commentators rarely consider it.
I enjoy listening to Earl the Pearl, can remember when he was a nobody and down here in Tampa, hustling Louie Roberts while Buddy Hall was looking on. He is one of the best.
Ouschan played a pretty good game. It seems to me that Tkach has decent ability, but a few bad breaks in the beginning rounds seemed to get to her head a little bit. I won't fault her play, especially because Ouschan was tough competition on this one (minus a few key surprise mistakes). Oh, and Earl did great keeping up with the fairly quicker pace of this match compared to previous ones. Thanks, Earl!
Jasmin strikes me as the more polished and experienced player but she couldn't overcome her dry breaks and a few unaccountable mistakes and misses. Kristina seemed out of sorts at first but rallied to have several nice outs. An ordinary match made interesting by Earl's expert commentary, especially his comments about pattern play. I wish Earl wouldn't think that he has to predict every single shot. He doesn't. Sometimes he can just say "let's see what she does here" and then comment on it afterward, like he does at 57:30. That's perfectly legitimate for a commentator.
Selected random thoughts i had while watching: 6:26 This camera view is better for trying to guess what players intend to do, Earl, but the rest of us need a view of the _whole_ table from a _useable_ angle before, during, and after each stroke to track the paths of (at least) two balls *simultaneously* : object ball and cue ball. Full view is also better for those many occasions when unforeseen things happen on parts of the table that close-up shots don't show. Here 23:50, of course, you're right, Earl. Doing this with the camera is just plain goofy. What is the point in watching a player look at the table from different angles when *we* can't even see the table for an idea of what she's looking at. Her parents may be the only people in the world who watch to see shots like this. 12:35 "This 'open table' thing...for these matches is good and maybe the girls..." If, by this, you mean: _Maybe the women, like this 'open table' thing, are good for these matches..._ then i'll agree with you, Earl. Any other meaning and you're on your own.

Commenting pool isn't about guessing the shots, It's about explaining the english used and why after the competitors shot, *Words not allowed {maybe , could , might , should , and My Table} just sayin !

Fundamentals Fundamentals Fundamentals...... Tkach is good, but gotta work more. Im not saying that cause of the miscue on 47:00. She takes a lot of unnecessary risks... And when she needs to take risks she doesnt take them. Of course, its easy to commentate and tell what she "needs to do".. But Im watching a lot of her matches.. She can really be a good player. Just need to work on her fundamentals.
