My father was a violinist in the NY Philharmonic during the Heifetz era, and he and some of his colleagues ,thought that the music field was getting tougher and tougher, and that unless you are a truly a genius, like Heifetz of course. you were better off doing something else to make a living.

Have you come across these: books on Heifetz by Axelrod, Sherry Kloss, Ayke Agus, Weschler-Vered. I heard there is a book coming out by John Maltese. Also back issues of the Strad magazine and others like Strings / Gramophone
