Saw Stephen Thorne who played Omega and Azal at a convention in 2017 or 2018. I used to hear him in plays on BBC Radio 4 as a kid in the 1970s and I said this to him; his eyes lit up and he said he had happy memories of his days in radio drama productions. Alas, he’s since passed away; his height was useful on tv in playing these characters in Doctor Who.
Stephen Thorne also had a memorable turn as the voice of Treebeard in the BBC audio drama of Lord of the Rings, bellowing “harOOOoom” and similar
Nice touch to see the first Doctor on the Time Lords' screen in black and white.
I was ten when this was first shown, and remember being amazed at the idea that we could have all three Doctors together. Multi-Doctor stories have become too common in the modern era.
How many have we had in the modern era? The 50th anniversary, Power of the Doctor. Anything else? The Giggle, sort of?
'Dark Place'.. so underrated.
Omega is an interesting creation, not an out-and-out villain but a rather tragic figure whose understandable bitterness has run out of control. His back story makes a great addition to Time Lord mythology, and his Ancient Greek-inspired mask is really effective, emphasising his tragic nature. Just a pity Stephen Thorne has to be QUITE SO SHOUTY, and that the sets for Omega’s lair look quite so cheap, though maybe that is an effect of antimatter…
Omega,Rassilon and the Other.
Absolutely. That's the only Time lord origin I've got time for.
If I'd been trapped in a black hole for that long, I would have lost my indoor voice too.
😂
I tell alot of NuWho fans this all of Time Lord lore proper lore that is all that information you get is from Classic Who you won't get it from NuWho.
"But I'm old, tired, spent, busted, rusted, stuck in a moldy old office with just a moody woman for company."
Omega's over the top contrasts nicely with Troughton's underplaying his Doctor, whom of course is the only one with a plan. (spoilers)
This is a fun one!
The Timeless Child ‘lore’ is best ignored. Actually 2020s Who is really just all eminently forgettable, sadly
