"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on RUclips. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on RUclips, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Trying to pin this on Kendrick when Drake is beefing with real Toronto gangsters is nasty…
Is he? I don't follow any of this. I know about the stuff Kendrick said. What did Drake do to/with Toronto gangs?
The timing is suspect though. Did he start bleefing with them at the same time this rap beef started?
when you are pumping UA girls like Drake is you probably have your share of enemies

Episode 69 of The Sopranos is The Fleshy Part of the Thigh where a rapper to get street cred pays mobsters to shoot him, Drake is the 69 God. You do the math
That man being harmed at Drakes house had nothing to do with a rap beef.

*that's the Weeknd's crew up there putting in work, them boys don't play 🕵 but Kendrick absolutely 100% doxxed Drake by putting his house and street name up for the world to see. he'll definitely be held legally accountable in some way.*
Drakes home address was already in the public domain.. no doxing here 😊
Drake's been bragging about his mansion before construction even finished. Anyone who wants to find it doesn't need Kendrick pointing it out to do that.
people think this is a good thing, people really have nostalgia for rappers getting killed is crazy
Bro Have you not seen what's been going on with the Atlanta rappers for years?... People getting killed because of rap beef is more popular than ever😵
@@55Porter
no hun, you just blame rap itself because you hate black people
People are bored, yes.
Rap beef is not a one size fits all type thing. Nobody has a nostalgia for rappers getting killed. There have been numerous high level rap beefs where no one is killed. Nas and Jay Z are still alive and well. LL Cool J and Canibus are still alive and well. Ice Cube and Common...still alive and kicking. I'll even throw in 50 Cent and Ja Rule. If you know very little about it you probably have Tupac and Biggie as your main point of reference and to be honest there has been a lot of speculation about the real reason around their deaths...some think there were things around money and control at play. But at least on one side it was said Tupac was killed by a gang leader who's cousin he had gotten into a fight with over a stolen chain. That is not rap beef. That is not saying there have never been any that went that route but it is not the norm. Rap beef generally goes the route of a sport...they are going to verbally spar until someone bows out or is determined to have the weaker track. There are legit dislikes between rappers at times but rarely does it extend beyond going at each other on tracks or an occasional fight. So no, no one is wishing for death. Embarrassment, yes! Death, no!

Imagine being so weak of a person you get hurt feelings from a rap battle to shoot someone.
So basically what you're saying is that you didn't watch the video.
Apparently this is actually some gang beef stuff and has very little to do with Kendrick Lamar. I don't think it's directly related to the rap battle.
makes more sense to me that he'd be getting robbed. during the family matters video he was showing off a lot of expensive jewelry, and then soon after he said he was going on vacation. seems like perfect MO to me
It turned violent, not deadly unless someone dies. And J. Cole was an Uber passenger I had back when he was just getting famous. I told him I had no idea who he was and he seemed pretty shocked. I don't keep up with these people. Nobody is more special than I am, to be honest.
I feel you.
“deadly, mortal, fatal, lethal mean causing or capable of causing death” clearly you don’t keep up with the English language either
Dude J Cole was getting famous in like 2009 before Uber existed 🤣🤣
@@johnstaley8633 Like I said, he was surprised I never heard of him. When I asked if he was famous, he laughed and said he's getting pretty famous. I am in Pennsylvania and drive in Pittsburgh a lot, and this is a two party state. I would be allowed to share video if I have it, but not the audio without that person's permission.
Don’t blame Kendrick for this lol my boy did nothing
Instigation!
@@vero_smittyI hope you have the same energy for the pedo allegations
Also Kendrick repeatedly calling Drake a pedo without showing any evidence to back that very serious claim has been very disappointing because if I were making those accusations, I would take that shit seriously and immediately show the receipts
Kendrick did worse than shoot Drake
he has the Diddy touch now. It will be embarrassing to be a Drake fan in a year, watch
He very specifically didn't blame Kendrick.
They think it was actually a retaliation for getting The Weeknd’s manager shot, not related to Kendrick
Kyle this has nothing to do with Kendrick this has to do with turmoil in Toronto street politics more related to the weekends camp if anyone I love your content but I feel like you should retract this video
this video is wildly speculative and irresponsible
None of these guys have “camps,” dude. All 3 of these guys are pretty vanilla. People just making ish up.
That too is a speculation and Kyle never said it had to do with Kendrick. Giving two speculations that are most likely the most probable (but not fact), isn't blaming anyone. And he even platformed a different creator with contrary speculations. Maybe don't selectively listen. There is no one concluding anything yet.
I don't care what happens between Drake and Kendrick, I just PRAY The Weeknd doesn't get got 😂
Scammer$ prey on those caught praying though.
Weekend not Kendrick
Kyle promoting nolifeshaq.... Dat's tuff🤣🔥🤙
I tried to get into this story and even with someone being shot it bores me to tears.
Had nothing to do with the beef. At least between them two.
It’s funny that in a $100 million house there’s no CCTV footage to catch the details of the vehicle involved in the drive-by or even a footage of the shooters
Kyle this isnt about kdot drake has been beefing with the weeknd and xo for a while now too and that got violent about a week ago
Did you watch the video?
Never did I ever imagine Kyle would mention Fantano, Scru Face Jean, or No life shaq.... and I freaking love it!
Drake is on the wrong side of serious Flemo dudes.

It makes no sense for Kendrick, who's winning, to then shoot up Drakes place. Lol
Why would you get in a fight when you're winning the argument. I'm thinking inside job.
This doesn’t have to do with the rap beef guys! Let’s not do that. There’s other stuff going on.
It's Toronno...keep that T silent and we won't know you're a tourist.
'Oron'o?
Wasn't that one of the X-Men?
Torawnna if you’re in northern Ontario 😂
Ooo Canada soooo scary lol
Tronna
Or the 6ix, 905er, Bramladesh 😂
Canada needs much stricter gun laws to prevent this from happening.
Kendrick said he had a mole in drakes camp. Maybe someone in drakes team found out who?
The beef was "fun" for entertainment value but it by no means brought out the BEST in these guys. Kendrick's best is when he drops proper full-length albums full of substantive meaningful songs. This was a side-quest
As someone who is just about aware that Drake exists and has no idea who this "Kendrik" person is supposed to be, this entire afair is quite bizarre.
Kendrick shouldn’t let this distraction slows up his post. Just drop it, Kenny needs to drop a track this week called FATALITY letting folks know who really ended this beef. Multiple switches: Complex rhyme structures of That Part, speed rap of Rigamortus, Anthem Bop of Not Like Us, & Pure Raw Spittin of the Control verse. Those are to me his best 4 techniques
Drake has soldiers on the front lines willing to die for him as soon as he gives them orders.
Kyle: just to make it clear, I'm not a gangster
These beefs are so stupid, especially with the money both sides make. Let it go, enjoy your blessed life. The whole point of making money is to get out
I cannot believe grown men act like this? These Rap wars are just ridiculous and disturbing.
Kendrick is wrecking Drake in their battle right now... He's the last person who'd wanna shoot Drake atm. Kendrick being involved is even less likely than Drake being involved in own guard's shooting as a false flag attack.
As a longtime Secular Talk watcher, I’d never thought we’d be watching Kyle react to NoLifeShaq in 2024. What a time to be alive.
I can't stand this. Corporate sponsors getting spooked, so they demand an apology at any possible investigation's expense?
Asking the winner of the rap beef to apologize is crazy lol
Kyle being a Fantano fan heals my soul, my two favorite almost middle aged RUclipsrs coming together
"RAP BEEF TURNS DEADLY" wtf? Nobody died, and this has nothing to do with kendrick.
When does he say that it has to do with Kendrick?🤦
Definition of deadly is causing or *able to cause* death.
@iyctthgootk no one knows if the shooting at Drakes house had anything to do with a rap beef, like the title is insinuating.
Kyle - "wow rapper feud FUN!!!"
Also Kyle - "wow violence, HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN"
Rapper feud, boyyo. That's how.
People have forgotten what happened to Tupac and Biggie. Diss tracks and beef between rappers is fun and lucrative, but it's just not worth the risk of people dying because some crazy person takes it too seriously.
Kyle : "lets have the investigation"
Are you trying to say they should snitched on each other Kyle? WTF??
It's absolutely silly, petty, and ridiculous.
I love it Rap finally got entertaining again
Kendrick wins in the booth and on the street
While rap beefs is the healthy way to push better songs and quality, it still amazes me there are geniuses that will take extreme routes in capital gains.
Im worried about Kyle getting his news from tabloids and some random homey.
This beef is the dumbest shit in recent history to me.
Wasn't his bodyguard that was shot. Was a security guard that looks after the property.
Thank God ppl in the comments calling out Kyle irresponsible reporting
I have no opinion about this, but you need to adjust your Occam's Razor definition, "The simplest explanation is usually the correct one." This is good:
Occam's razor is often misstated as "the simplest answer is the correct one," but it should more accurately be "the simplest answer is the best starting point to investigate." The idea is that the more variables or assumptions that have to add up to get to a solution, the more difficult it is to investigate, and the less likely it is to occur in general. "Entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity" is the classical way to state it.
So the classic example is you hear hoofbeats outside, is it a horse or a zebra? Well unless you live in the African savannah, it's very unlikely to be a zebra. We'd need more assumptions to get there - a zebra was imported to a local zoo, it escaped captivity, and now it's running amok. Whereas a horse requires just one assumption - a horse is nearby. That doesn't mean that it cannot be a zebra, it just means that you should start at "it's probably a horse" and investigate from there.
Shaq is definitely reaching , if it was staged you wouldn't shoot the bodyguard in the chest.
It's reached Biggie vs Tupac levels now
Lmao, people rhyming into microphones thinking they're hard. The fact that so many famous rappers think they gotta act tough when theyre pampered artists is hilarious.
Kyle venturing into rap beefs has me hollering 😅.
Side Note: I do think the whole thing is lame if we just look at it from what really matters in this world. Hats off to Macklemore btw.
Yasss!
Was not his bodyguard. Was a security guard outside his house.
1:27 no one was saying please don’t let this end in violence.
A bunch of rich rappers beefing each other
I never thought No Life Shaq would be in a Kyle vid????? THIS BEEF IS CRAZY
Every body loves the music until they get a real taste of where it came from. This is how stuff goes down. Don't get freaked out now.
Kyle: the most likely scenario is Drake isn't a pedo
Y’all don’t understand the entertainment industry, they likely approached all parties and were like if you all do not stop this beefing now, y’all will be in trouble, breach of contract, whatever, threaten with lawsuits kind of force. And threaten their careers, because that is how the industry works. This is likely some crazy person, and if anything latest escalation could make their labels crack down on them for how far out of control it has gotten. Security for the artist is often provided by management or the label.
I don’t think you can blame this shooting on Kendrick without more evidence about who it was and why they did it.
We don't need another Biggie Tupac deal. Am I the only one thinking this? We lost the two best rappers of all time. We don't need repeats. This is stupid. They should kiss and make up. Call it good.
You’re the best !!!
Who gives a F*ck?
I don't.
This is Drake and the Weeknd's camp.
Im from Toronto and I gotta stand by my city, but I dont believe Kendrick would instigate this, I think hes too conscious to go off like this, I dont see the beef as serious enough yet for this to make sense - sounds like a renegade incident like how they say Nipsey was shot
Nice to hear you talk about Toronto tho, wish it was under better circumstances.
"cus nobody wants to support a pedo right" 😭 OK at this point is anyone going to come forward with some actual EVIDENCE or proof is someone going to press actual charges bc this is getting to defamation levels. 🤦♂

To all Americans who don't understand, you do not in Canada have a protected right to threaten someone. There is no unlimited free speech here, if you make a credible threat against someone that is potentially grounds for a lawsuit/charges if the threat is thought to be credible. Its called "incitement to commit violent acts"
Actors playing games with real mfers
Shaq couldn’t be more wrong. It was obviously xo vs ovo.
Kendrick's label like 'drop and gimme 50'.
It can't be a inside job because the security guard isn't critical condition..
You really think they were thinking "we don't have to shoot anyone." When they were doing a literal diveby You know what driveby means?? Right?? ARE YOU FOR REAL RIGHT NOW?
They won't have beef if they stuck to poultry
It sounded like Kyle said "rat beef" 🤣
Remember Kyle said: You are objectively wrong if you like fall and you should be ashamed of yourself...
Send J. Cole to the Gaza peace talks.
Crappy US behavior is rubbing off on Canada.
Bro this has nothing to do with KDOT. You really think Kendrick sent Stans to Canada lol
The only way I see it being an inside job is if the security guard was the mole. It's hard to believe Drake when he says he has a double agent the whole time since he had no control over the beef post Euphoria.
This scenario would make it a two birds, one stone kind of situation.
It seemed completely clear to me that Kenny was intentionally putting out a hit on Drake, I frankly can’t believe it didn’t happen sooner after Taylor Made
If you got insurance for drive bys. You need to stop
Somebody be tryina make Jimmy have his comeback era 💀
Also, worlds colliding with the No Life Shaq shout out 😂
