I remember this one as a little kid. The old transistor radio and Little Eva singing The Locomotion! Fast forward many years to this. Sarah, you are totally into this cover. "The Loco-Motion: was written by Gerry Goffin and his wife Carole King in 1962. They originally wrote the song for Dee Dee sharp who turned it down. Dee Dee had recorded the popular smash hit "Mashed Potato Time" The song actually came before the dance.
When it became a smash hit; Eva Boyd created the dance to go along with the song. Carole king mentioned this on her "One on One" concert video.
Eva was introduced to Carole King and her husband by The Cookies - a group of all girls who would eventually record for Goffin and King. Eva became Carole King's babysitter.
Both Carole and her husband realized that Eva had a unique singing voice so Eva recorded the song and became Little Eva. She earned a weekly wage of $50 a week which was $15 dollars more than what she received as a baby sitter.
