Scrabble but 30% of tiles are blanks!

  • 20 blanks wasn't enough, so we've upped it to the maximum Quackle will allow: 39 blanks! In a game with nearly 30% of the bag being blanks, only one thing is guaranteed: utter and absolute chaos. But who will triumph in this latest clash of Modified Tile Bag Scrabble?
    update: I believe I now have a way to make it even more blanks, so that should be coming soon, but keeping this video as it was still a great game!

    Legit lol at this thumbnail. Funny that the final scores were extremely high, but not THAT much higher than you might expect...

      thats why i thougt he might stick not only to the Z but also to the H in the first (exchange) move.

      would be cool to see Mack play this 30% blanks vs a human like you!

      Yeah I thought they were gonna be closer to 700 too! I guess between the board exhaustion from so many bingos and the blanks being worth zero points, plus also (at least on my end) being timid about opening 3*3s with SO MANY BLANKS. I was really hoping for like a 59 or 68 point 3*3 though hahaha

    I second the suggestion for this on the Super Scrabble board. I think one opportunity in this game on the regular board is to set up massive extensions to increase the number of times you can theoretically bingo. Easier said than done though as I don’t know who studies their 14s and 15s.

      Yeah I'll make it happen! And I do know who studies their 14s and 15s -- Quackle :)

    You mentioned that you have to change it after the start of the game, but after looking in to this you can create and change the tile lists by including new alphabets in this folder C:\Program Files\Quackle\data\alphabets. Each file has columns with upper, lower, point value, quantity, and if it is a vowel. This can add more characters or change the count of characters. It seems you may have found this in later videos but I wanted to point it out any way.
    P.S. just found your channel and am excited.

    I saw INFECTING! So rare that I see something you miss, I live for that stuff ;)
    I don't know at what point turnover actually doesn't make sense with this many blanks, since too many blanks creates redundancy and reduces average score by replacing tiles with a face value. I honestly think one of the main reasons you won is because Quackle drew *too many* blanks and couldn't score anything with them. Crazy stuff...

      It would've also been such a different game if Quackle didn't play QUA keeping FIVE BLANKS and just bingoed hahahaha

    What if they were all blanks? What's the optimal strategy? Which player wins?

      Sounds like it'll be a tie, because 14 x 7 = 98 and 14 is an even number. So the score will be 350-350. It seems implausible that anyone can block all bingo opportunities.

    • @TeamNinjaCats

      I guess it's impossible that player 2 could win with optimal play. If player 2 would win, player 1 would just refuse play any tiles.

    25:10 After you pointed out this spot for the C, I did see e(F)f(a)C(E) but considered (B)y (which you mentioned at 26:10) to set it up rather than (B)ye. I'm still not sure of the difference -- maybe you want to guarantee the points from the F if the setup is blocked?

    • @CyberchaoX
      @CyberchaoX 9 месяцев назад +2

      Well, it grabs points from the F twice. Once on e(F), and once on (eF)f(a)C(E).

    • @mackmeller
      @mackmeller  Месяц назад

      Still just 39, sadly

    • @MichaelDarrow-tr1mn
      @MichaelDarrow-tr1mn Месяц назад

      and who do you think would win with just 39 blanks

    • @mackmeller
      @mackmeller  Месяц назад

      @@MichaelDarrow-tr1mn Whoever goes first would win I think, since every play would be a 50-point bingo and after 2 bingos each player 2 would empty the bag, leaving player 1 with 7 blanks and player 2 with just 4. Player 1 bingos out to win 150-100.
      In general, if the number of tiles (assumed to be more than 14, and not so large that the board gets exhausted) is between 1 and 7 mod 14 (inclusive) then it will be a tie, and otherwise player 1 will win, I believe. 39 is 11 mod 14 so player 1 wins.

    4:45 You had 3+ Bingos off the D in COSTARD by playing DA and a bingo starting in AZUR???.
    AZURITE would have gotten you 119 points instead of 95.
