Garmin 55, amazing watch. I am really impressed with it. The softness of the silicone band, the easy to use buttons, screens, very nice one. And also easy to read and see things on the display
Hey Ryan! I have the 245, and it fits the bill for me. I was looking for an economical watch with solid features for road and trail running. The 245 was the answer, three years ago. The watch is holding up perfectly, so no need to change or upgrade at this point. Thanks Ryan!
Great review! The differences and displays made up my mind. Heck I got the 245 for $4 less than $55, since they cleared it now because of the 255. The 255 has some other nice features but it's almost double the price. And I really like the size of the 245, it's right between the 255S and the 255
Great video. I love that you did a side by side comparison of the running watches. I like the Garmin products and find that they are all good.. just little nuances. Love the channel and your content.
Great comparison, thanks a lot. Two things: The lack of a barometric altimeter was a big bummer for me. So, the trail running mode on the 245 is nice to have but useless if you use it in e.g. alpine regions. I understand that you focus on differencies but that is still very important for a proper sports watch and should be mentioned imo. The other thing is the poor battery life in GPS. I donˋt know how how many hours you get with the 55 but with the 245 max. 8 hours with a paired chest trap or a power meter. I do not think the 55 is better but real life values would have been interesting in the video and not what Garmin claims on their site.
I’ve bought the 55 just two weeks ago, since I’ve never had any sport watch before I cannot compare it with anything else. I can say I’m satisfied although the screen is too small and with low res and few colors (it’s like a GameBoy Color). I haven’t understood if the 245 has better sensors than 55 that tracks our records better
This is a great review. As an older outdoorsman finding a watch that is easy to see in all conditions without having a massive body has been difficult. I wish more reviews covered that aspect like you did here. Do any of these watches have battery saving and airplane mode?
Thank you for this video, can you guys pls recommend the best value for money watch if my requirements are below 1) Road running 2) Workouts - cardio, HIIT, resistance training 3) indoor swimming 4) Track Health markers
Is there a basic timing feature on these watches? I actually need a timer for certain things at work and that may be the selling point for me to get a new watch. I’m still working with the forerunner 35 😅
I cheaped out and got the 45. I can't read it! The screen is a big deal for us old guys. Or... I could run with reading glasses on 🙂 Thankfully Best Buy will take it back and maybe I can get the 245 instead.
hi, your video is very useful. Happy that you are also in LA. I am looking for a long time a fonction to put all trails I did together on one map. can Garmin do this? (either handheld or Garmin 55/245 which has built-in GPS) The purpose of this is to have a record on all the mountains i went to and record the track of my trail/footprints. Thanks
Nice review! Couldn’t you just make a generic run profile, rename it to trail run, and just set the data screens to what you want to see when you do a trail run? And for HITT, could you make a cardio profile and just name it HIIT?
Yeah, on some Garmin watches including the 245 you can add custom activities by copying others, but not on the 55. You just get what comes pre loaded on it. And on the 245 you could create a custom HIIT activity by copying Cardio maybe, but the 55 HIIT profile on the 55 is actually pretty cool and comes pre loaded with intervals and a naming structure for you. Great question!
Hey Ryan, do the buttons on the 55 feels the same as 245 ? My 245 buttons are not so clicky or response as i would prefer. One ear broke of yesterday, a small piece of plastic where the strap is connected… so i need to get a new watch…. Or maybe Garmin will give a new one..? I do have warranty still, it’s just a year old. 2 year warranty in Holland
At 5:23 you are showing the menus on both watches but the FR245 doesn't come with a menu "Fenix 6" style... Is this from an update of software on the FR245? Thanks!
@@RyanClaytonFilms Not the watch face but the widgets, they are like on the Fenix series as I see and I don't remember that FR245 had them like this...
My 245 has developed a charging problem it's very hard to get the watch to charge lately, I'm pretty tight on my budget at the moment so I ordered the 55 this time around it seems to have everything I use on the 245. I'm pretty sure the charging problem is do to my alien grade sweat on the conductors for the last 3.5 years does Garmin make a plug to keep sweat and yuck off of the charging port?
Lol alien sweat! That's hilarious! I agree the 55 seems to be working for a lot of people really well! I don't think Garmin makes a plug, sorry about that, just not sure
Hello Ryan, thanks for that great comparison! Does the Garmin Forerunner 55 have reverse navigation like the 245 ie. If you run or walk to a particular location, can it reverse the route so that the watch can navigate you back to your start point?
I wonder if there's a reason none of these smart watch brands go with a square face besides Apple, seems like a way better use of space, with the amount of body around the watches these are almost square anyways, why waste so much screen space by using a circle watch face on a nearly square body.
Yeah I think a lot of it has to do with the existing OS and all the changes that would ripple down through the whole system. Personally I like both, but see your point on usage of space!
Depending on your foot shape and needs there, I would say try the Altra Olympus or Hoka Speedgoat. Those are two great high cushion shoes and you'll see 3/4 trail runners wearing one of those at every race! Thanks for stopping by!
@@RyanClaytonFilms Thank for your the suggestion, I'm a long time powerlifter that is transitioning into long distance running and hoping to attempt my first 50 mile at the end of March and your channel has definitely helped!
Do you think the 245 is still a good watch almost threes later if someone is on a budget? I have a Series 7 but like to only wear it when I’m working out and like to wear Garmin all day for the body battery and sleeping metrics.
Garmin Watches age like fine wine. They’re strictly runners/athletic watches unlike Apple and Samsung where a new and shiny watch pops up every 8 months making your watch old and obsolete 😂. I love my Apple Watch 6 and it’s really fast, but it’s a joke fitness wise compared to Garmin watches as a runner.

That's awesome!! 3 years is a long time for that battery to keep going, nice!
Hi how about the dead pixel of Garmin 245 is it still existing?
I saw reviews in Reddit of white spot on Garmin 245

Super great review! It settles the deal for me, I’m definitely going with the 245. Thanks for the help!
Excellent review, very straightforward.
Very clear and helped me make the decision. They're the same price now on Amazon. Went for the 245

Thanks for stopping by Christian! There were a few things I left out trying to keep it short for a "quick hits" type of video. Have a great day!
Very crisp presentation, Ryan. Thanks for not dragging it out!! Great editing and clarity in this one. Now, do I go buy a watch??!!!!!
Thanks Joe! You can't go wrong with either of these here!!!

I like the watch face. . how can I get it in Garmin connect iQ?
Super helpful! Thanks
What sells me most on the 55 is the _lack_ of animations.
It feels so much snappier compared to almost all smartwatches out there.

I know it is 9 months later after this video. But what site are you seeing the heavy sale on the 245?
Amazon?
nice watch. Its just look thick?
How much did you pay for 245 on black friday? I want to by 255 this year on the next black friday.
Question: Will a new 245 last as long as a 55 when it comes to software updates, chip sets etc. (because it is an older watch)?
I bought a new 245 yesterday and did a update to 11.60 right away.
Hi man! What about comparsion between 245 and coros apex? i'm really can't decide)))
I don't have the apex, but I do have the pace 2 and will be doing a comparison soon!
245 is cheap compared to what the 55 offers. Great conclusive review, thankyou.
Hello Ryan, thanks for that great comparison! Does the Garmin Forerunner 55 have reverse navigation like the 245 ie. If you run or walk to a particular location, can it reverse the route so that the watch can navigate you back to your start point?
No it does not. Was going to mention that, but left it out for time. 245 does have the track back reverse navigation though. Thanks!

Yeah you can! That one didn't make it in the video for time, but you can follow a breadcrumb trail map, so it has the line and that's it. Thanks!

245 has gorilla glass and 55 doesn't. This is important factor.
Lol! I noticed your wearing an Apple Watch
haha, yeah it's my go to daily watch most of the time when I'm not testing the health functions of a GPS watch. Thanks!
The 245 is uglier. Who agrees?
Colors of the case and band are definitely not as fun, but the screen resolution is better, so it's a toss up!
