Enjoy some Ukrainian Funk!
One day, as I was driving my car, a Prince song came on the radio. I started singing ancient Ukrainian polyphonic solstice motifs over Prince’s grooves. And so, "Kupalo" was born.
Kupalo is a Slavic celebration of the summer solstice and fertility, originating from pagan times. Ivana Kupala, or St John’s Eve, is the night of enchantment, wreaths, bonfires, water bathing, and magic. The songs of Kupalo are dreams of youth, love, and courtship, since wedding season is right around the corner. This is my call to my ancestors to connect to their magic, cast out the darkness and manifest freedom.
