    I met Dave Asprey this weekend at the BIL Conference in Vancouver. A really nice guy. He even supplied the conference with Bulletproof coffee!

      I LOOVE Dave Aspery. I think he over emphasizes the dangers of toxins vs the benefits of nutrition in foods (I mean natural toxins), I think because of his past experiences and that makes sense for where he came from and went through, but I have a lot of faith the body can process out RIDICULOUS quantities of toxins when its supplied with the right building blocks and nutrition to do so. (I eat a cheap knockoff of bulletproof).
      I do think Dave is one of the most honestly genuine human beings putting himself in media. While I think he exaggerates some stories, I don't think he does it for hype, I think its just a natural human impulse. When I watch him talking I feel like he opens up and is so incredibly vulnerable, you can see his fatherhood, his geekiness, his genuine love for and desire to help people. (of course I don't know him, maybe he's just a really good actor, but I don't think so.) I think he's a beautiful person and look forward to seeing everything he does.

    I just passed my 7th anniversary of keto and will soon have 5 years on Bulletproof. I am much healthier today in my mid 40's than I was in most of my 20's and all of my 30's. Standing up and working in a salon tends to make one not want to be on her feet after work, so for many years, I would get off work and go to have a drink with a friend and then dinner and then sit on a couch the rest of the night. The only exercise I would get then was having sex. As a former basketball, volleyball, softball, field hockey, and tennis player, I basically retired from sports after college, and I got a little soft and a lot out of shape. I only was ever 15 pounds overweight, but the Bulletproof Diet has done something for me that has never happened before--I am hardly ever hungry and often have to force myself to eat at 2 PM. And, it is has made me an addict to Bulletproof Coffee.
    I have gotten in such great shape that last Spring as a dare, I went to our local college that has renowned college softball teams and threw batting practice. I can still bring the heat and throw a mean drop and rise ball. I am old enough to be these girls' mother, and they couldn't believe I could still throw close to 70 mph.

    Eskimos in tundra have no access to carbs . They never "refuel " on carbs . So its possible to live on high fat diet . Coz they do it . So please. Don't question ketogenic diets .

      Personally, I think no diet is good for everyone. I know what foods make me feel the best, and I have been able to achieve ketosis with several diets. What I found important for me was the timing of eating, what I ate, and the timing of my exercise. BTW, I really enjoy your videos, HealthfulPursuits. I like that you speak from experience rather than just reading something and regurgitating what you read. Keep it up! :)

    • @salamura7034

      akshai k if i am not mistaken, studies also shown eskimos live shorter due to their diet and also circumstances of life. besides you can also live on bananas when it comes to stay alive. there a tons of people even on youtube who live for over 10 years mainly on fruits and carbs. but possibility doesn't make it the perfect diet. furthermore i think diet alone isn't the key, just like with the eskimos, it's the cumulation of your circumstances of life, environment and diet.

      akshai k Sorry that you thought I haven't any experiences. I already did this diet. And not once. But everytime, after a week or so, I had to puke. I couldn't eat the fatty stuff anymore without feeling dizzy and nauseous. My stool was horrible. I felt horrible. Nevertheless I am curious about every type of nourishing lectures and videos, that's why I watched it in the first place to see if there are new informations I missed. But I feel free to question everything, especially when I made bad experiences or read critical scientific articles about it.

      Kitty Kat Carbs will kill you. Research AGES / Advanced Glycation End Products. We've been conned for decades in to thinking saturated fat causes heart disease when it has been our high carb diets all along. Carbs cause your arteries to sludge up, this is proven fact. The science has finally gotten to the point where the proof is irrefutable, high carb diets will kill you. Carbs shorten your telomeres. No telomeres = cell death = you are dead.

    Too many ignoramus comments below. I must tip the balance. I love your videos and I'm very happy that you had the balls to try the Ketogenic Diet, and especially happy about the positive effect on your hormones. I congratulate your for having an open mind. Extreme Bananas ignorant comment makes me want to punch him, but that would not be conducive to maintaining a placid mind, so I laugh at the thought, haha.
    I started Keto-adaptation back in August 2014, and I'm still learning. I personally find it easiest to just go no carbs at all, but I know it's important to fit in fibrous, nutritious veggies also, so I eat lotsa broccoli and some organic soup here and there and avocados, yay. I'm still coming to grips with how much butter and oil I have to add to meals to maintain a 75-20-5% of fat-protein-carbs, and also learning to adjust the protein with my activity levels... but you can feel it when you get it right!
    I started eating this way because I was tired of the ups and downs of carb addiction and bonking on long hikes, workouts and mtn bike rides. At this point, I'm very happy to ride for hours with only some water and a few handfuls of salty nuts, maybe some electrolytes in my h2o. Whereas before I had bad anxiety, depression, and I was overly aggressive, being more level and having slightly more mental energy (and therefore being less often annoyed) has really positively supplemented a long-term attitude adjustment. Of course, diet is only one piece of the puzzle, but a healthy body is a great foundation for a healthy mind. Anyway, thank you for your videos and your ideas and perspective and the shirt you wore for the first half of the video, not that I have anything against magenta.

    You could just use coconut oil for all your cooking, which has MCTs, just less concentrate and save MCT oil for bulletproof coffee. That's what I'm doing to save money. I am also going to switch for brain octane for MCTs that are 3 times more concentrated than MCT oil. I just ordered it from Amazon. After my first bulletproof coffee - wow, did I ever sleep that night 8 hours later. It was an intense wonderful sleep.

  • @sativadva

    I’m really down and disappointed in myself. I failed at keto after a month. I felt really great with zero carb cravings after the initial two weeks... then all of a sudden I had zero cravings for any of the food I was eating. I dreaded eggs, any kind of meat, anything super fatty... I found myself gagging at every meal. 😔 Was unintentionally IFing for half the day cuz I hated eating on keto. I was so weak, depressed, completely drained of all energy cuz I couldn’t bring myself to eat over 700cals a day. I gave up this diet two days ago and went back to eating carb heavy foods and all my digestive issues returned. I know HFLC is the way to go but all that money wasted on keto made me want to just throw all my progress away (I’m down 22lbs). This diet seems really up my alley, thank you for your insight 🥰

    You know ketosis is bad if you have to consume carbs to refuel.

    • @robbell4246
      @robbell4246 9 лет назад +1

      Why do carbs have to be an "every day" food? There are plenty of things that are good in doses, but not all the time. Babies are born in ketosis. Some evidence also suggests that Ketosis is our body's natural state, since Carbs weren't nearly as abundant prior to modern agriculture.

    • @zukodude487987
      @zukodude487987 9 лет назад +1

      Rob Bell Well our ancesters never had something like carb loading, they were opportunist eaters so they ate whatever they got their hands on. Also fat is not an abundant resource, most people were in ketosis due to food shortage, not because of a high fat diet.
      The reason carbs are so handy to eat is because they are cheap, low in calories, high in fiber and nutrients. Now when i say carbs i don't mean cookies, white bread or candy, i mean foods like fruits, berries and starches.

    • @robbell4246
      @robbell4246 9 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the non-crazy response! A rare thing on youtube :D
      I'm not sure that means ketosis is bad though. The body does all sorts of awesome things like heightening senses and brain activity under certain conditions (initially for a survival scenario). I don't see why we can't leverage that sort of thing for modern life?
      Personally i have no issue staying in ketosis for prolonged periods. I just prefer a refeed day on occasion (mainly for sanity with all this food around which even thought it's often bad, is delicious in some way), plus i find it actually increases weight control with a once-per-week refeed.

    • @zukodude487987
      @zukodude487987 9 лет назад +1

      Rob Bell When i say ketosis is bad i mean in the sense of people preaching how perfect it is and how we don't need a single gram of carbs for energy and then they for some reason need a carb loading day.
      I eat high carb almost every day and i have no issues losing weight and i don't need to do fat/protein refeed days. I can eat carbs consistently 24/7 365 days a year. I also don't get any cravings and have a better skin and no need for coffee.
      As for the brain thing, i have been in ketosis and i don't ever feel like i am brighter or more aware or better at thinking. The ketone bodies are a replacement to fuel your brain, but so do carbs.

      I do agree that everyone gets on a high horse about their chosen diet.
      Personally i have joint issues on high carb / low fat (even super clean carbs), but none of the same on high fat / low carb. I guess it just shows that we're all built differently.
      I'm not always in ketosis, but almost always have ketone bodies present, and still stick to high fat side of things. I just seem to run better that way.
      I can go without coffee, but i have two young kids at home (youngest is a few weeks), run my own businesses, so sleep isn't as high as would be optimal either. If i was getting a full 6-7 hrs, i could drop the coffee too. But oh well - we still live in the world we live in.
      Glad HCLF works for you. I think it's hard to find what works for yourself sometimes!

    If you're always changing your diet, you're probably not on a good diet.

    If you want to see lean and healthy, go to parts of the world where the people are not eating western diets.
    They eat carbs,fruits and starch and are still lean. Also are you measuring you body fat? I appreciate you testing but having a whole bottle of oil must of rocked your body fat levels. It would of been nice if you did a before and after body fat %.
    Dave is a business man never forget that so he is selling his brand and making money so its all selective.
    I wish those willing to try good luck, but eating fat will make you fat. I don't see the lean villager in Kenya waking up have butter,oil and coffee and then some bacon after.

    What I'd like to know is what credentials Dave Asprey has to be giving health/diet advice. The guy doesn't even look all that healthy himself. His main expertise is in marketing overpriced garbage to gullible people who want something trendy to get behind. I really cannot stand the guy.

      His credentials are. Get ready. Due to his own horrid shape,lack of focus and inflamation...etc. He spent 20 years and over a million bucks in his bio hacking. And has educated himself as well as the public. Now I could not do all he does but he surely made me think about mold and toxic soils. ...his experience. With his documentation and researched resources.says it all...it does help to have all that dough too!!
