I am a diabetic and I have tried being a vegetarian(couldn't`t let go of shrimp sorry) didn't work for me made me feel sicker... all of those carbs converted to sugar and kept imbalanced... I've have started the switch to keto and I have lost 16lbs and I feel great... people need to stop bashing other because the lifestyle isn't for them, makes you look ignorant and bigoted....

My day is 4 egg yolks + one whole egg + 30-50g of butter omlet, then i added lots of greens with applecidervinegar garlic and olive oil. My second 'meal' is basicly fat shake contains - 180 ml of heavy cream (30%), 2 tea spoons of organic cacao, 3 table spoons of butter and 2 table spoons of coconut oil. i but to boil everything, mix and add some cinnamon. drink half of it, and leave the rest (when its cold). After couple of hours i mixed 1 table spoon of flax seed and chia seed with littlebit water, waiting and adding it to my shake (have a pudding). Last meal is a meat, sometimes beef, sometimes fatty pork but mostly organic chicken (just a little bit, i dont eat more than 1g of protein per kg of body) and thats all. Its about 1700-1900 kcal which is a little bit too much but i want to gain weigh. And of course bucnhc of veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, spinach) in supe with bone broth or just water and blendered. Its make me super full and energetic. sorry for my english.
She had one single carrot-- which has 6.5 net carbs. Really not that bad, especially as it seems she's trying to stay under 30-40g and not strict keto 20 g of net carbs a day.
John Matthews I wouldn’t consider ONE carrot a big deal, if it’s counted into the macros and you stay under your daily limit. (If I add something like that, I get pretty anal and only add a little... and I actually measure by weight, to be more accurate.) If you’ve watched some of her other videos, you’ll see that she also sometimes does what she calls “carb ups” where she eats higher carb items, like rice and potatoes... which other keto folks avoid. (My version of “carb up” is different than hers, too. I just up my carb limit, during that day... with keto “approved” foods. Ex: instead of... 25 carbs/day I up to 35 carbs that day.)
I'm not sure. Fat doesn't affect insulin like protein and carbs. This doesn't mean prorein and carbs are bad and fat is a free for all. Fat still has a lot of calories. Intermittent fasting is used as a tool anyways so you can eat more later.
Just because you eat it in your diet does not mean you absorb the correct form, it has to do with methylation.. many people have genetic mutations that inhibit the conversion of folate and B12 both.. This is known as an MTHFR mutation. I personally have a MTHFR mutation. I hope that helps! It is actually difficult to get too much B12.

I started implementing IM after listening to your Podcast with Jason Fung and a simple 16:8 made such an impact to my body composition. It's not easy breaking the "brain-wash" we've been fed that you'll get fat if you eat fat, but once I started eating fat it was truly liberating for me. You're doing an amazing job - keep it up!
I'm diabetic and doing this whole change of eating was a vegetarian vegan. For 30 years now eating meat as I'm low iron to and take iron supplements did feel weird eating. Meat but I'm feeling healthy. 😘 and a massive well done to you 😘

Have you tried using metylcobalamin instead of cyanocobalamin for your b-12? I use this form in a sublingual tablet, I like the brand Superior Source, and the ones I get also have folate and b-6. It got my numbers back up without shots.

Ok. Diet heavy in fats and protein (mainly avocado, coconut, eggs, bison, beef, salmon, tuna) after five weeks raised my cholesterol levels from elevated to high. I go back in 3 months to get blood done again. So, do I double down or accept that high fat diet is not for me? Shit. Lost weight though....

holy living It's so hard to say whether you would become adapted as EVERYONE is so different! Sounds like you have a solid plan and it looks great. If you can do nuts, they're great too! I'd say: give it a whirl and see what your body does!
Your right! I can keep the higher fat way of vegan going and see what happens. In the past when I've increased fat but was eating all kinds of veggies I'd gain fat so obviously I didn't turn to fat burning mode even on a No starch vegan diet. Maybe bc it was higher calories than I needed and regardless where that comes from we store the excess.
holy living The High fat type diet is generally just an excuse to eat lots of meat and dairy. You could eat 5 lbs of Kale and a pound of Flax seed and it would work I guess. But Strawberries,Sweet-potatoes, Bananas,Beans and Apples are so good for you...So why bother?

How do you cook foods without oil? In your other video you said to only add oils after cooking, does that mean you use animal fats to cook so the food doesn't stick to the pan?
I've been struggling with low carb, not much success due to thyroid issues. I have just watched your video and I have a question. After doing my research, I thought I am only allowed 1 to 1 1/2 cups of veggies a day?? And no root veggies? I imagine you are consuming more veggies because you are maintaining your weight, not persuing weight loss anymore? It's confusing, only because everyone has differing opinions.
exactly150 Hey! My clients who have thyroid imbalances do better with a touch more carbs. After I calculated this day, it worked out to be about 50g net of carbs. This still allows me to be in fat-burning mode without getting too crazy about vegetables. I always say - you shouldn't have to count your kale.
I did. I went on M Dougall's diet. Holy crap, I gained 10lbs in less than 2 weeks. In order for me to lose anything, albeit very very slow, is to consume not more than 10 g carbs/day. I have severe metabolic damage.
Healthful Pursuit advocates a diet high in good quality fats as well. My son is an oncologist and he now puts all his patients on a ketogenic diet. If done properly, actually increases HDL and lowers LDL. Also studies are being done that high fat diet stops metastatic disease. Fat is no longer demonized.
Im 15 days in keto, ive losing only 2 lbs!! (Im overweight btw) I feel bloated,constipated,even I feel more 'clear' and with more energy Im about to give up,I use to go to the bathroom (#2) up3 times a day,now Im lucky if am going once every two days Im suffering of water retention as well :( Any advice??
Im vegan but i like to look around and see what other people are doing and it seems like you need more fiber in your diet. Im not gonna say go vegan but it would really help, but do whatever the fuuuucck you wanna do lol
+mrshppy76 Here's my advice, for what it is worth. First make sure you are getting all the food that you should on the Keto plan, also, importantly, drink the amount of water recommended. If you still feel very out of sorts and have the problems with constipation, then try cutting back on meats and upping your veg to see if that helps, from what I know about fats, you need to have a good amount of them for your body to function properly, so I would only cut back on those if all else fails. Whatever you end up on that your body feels good with, I would definatly stick to several glasses of water (or tea, or herb tea) per day, as that is always good for you. Some people thrive more on a veg based diet, while others thrive on more of a meat/protein eating plan. Hope that helps. :-)
This person was just innocently asking for advice. Your rude and insolent response was TOTALLY uncalled for. First of all, this eating plan is a LOW starch and no sugar plan, but if you are comfortable with another way of doing things such as a vegan diet, that's great, but it doesn't give you the right to take pot shots and hurl insults at others who are either struggling or happy in another choice. Do as you like with your own body, but grow up and let others live as they choose!
+mrshppy76 The induction phase of Atkins is a ketogenic diet. Dr. Atkins (I'm reading his book right now) advises for constipation to get plenty of water and sprinkle a tablespoon or a little more of Psyllium Husk Powder on your meals.
if trying to kick into keto...you want to lay off carbs for sure and keep them to a minimal. They can be an enemy if trying to reach certain goals...but depends what you're trying to reach.

When you say you sip on the drink, do you mean you drink several up until lunch or just that one? Anyone else can comment, as well. I like to drink 2-3 cups of butter coffee, but a little concerned that’s too much.

I have no intention of switching back to a meat and dairy lifestyle (though I have no issues with others who do). Why did you say you ate 200 grams of protein during your first meal with the brisket if we should limit protein to less than 10 grams per meal? How big was that brisket? All your meals looked and sounded appetizing nonetheless.
Hey Leanne, I just wonder, have you ever had your iron blood level and ferritin checked? I know you did lots of blood work in the past, anything about iron? This is one thing I struggle on high fat diet (Im a male) and I can imagine it can be even harder for females as they require more daily iron intake.

It doesn't work that way for me. If I only eat fruits and vegetables, then I'll certainly crave something else. Also, when I eat carbs, shortly after all I do is crave more carbs - like a vegan whole wheat wrap filled with nothing but veggies, beans and lots of hot sauce. I doubt that I'm unique in that way also. If I didn't exercise so much, I have probably have been obese when I was doing the ultra low-fat diet. You can stay lean on a low-fat diet, but for me it meant always being hungry and lots of running, cycling and cardio classes.
+Tim Mayer Agreed. I tried fruitarian. raw, high carb and even the McDougall diet and I lasted only a day on the McDougall because it calls for absolutely no fat and no meat. I know we're used to eating meat, but my diet felt very bland and I was constantly craving more food. I never usually crave meat but suddenly I was craving high fat meats and decided that it wasn't for me either. I tried doing only fruits and veggies for a day and I was starving. Soon, I just couldn't stand feeling so cold..I learned later from oriental medicine that too many fruits can make your body very cold and actually not work with everyone's digestion :(

In MY opinion, that meat was cooked a lot.I know that because it is dark brown wich is not good, that means it contains acrylamide (leads to cancer) and it is a HUGE endocrine disruptor. Your meat should be cooked rare or medium rare max.A better way even should be eating your meat in your meat stock (with some bone), super tender and way healthier.The stock should be eaten 15 to 20 min before eating your meat that you previously removed from the stock.The bouillon from the stock contains a lot of glycine witch balances the high amounts of methionine in meat.Also meat in MY opinion shoud be consumed once a weak about 3 to 6 ounces and that's it. During winter (if you live above 37 degres latitude north in north hemisphere or 37 degres latitude south in southern hemisphere) you can eat meat twice or even 3 times a week and in summer you should not eat meat at all. In spring and automn is kinda in between. Also when your meal should be 2/3 vegetables (not fruit) and 1/3 meat.Meat should have high amounts of fat in it and also cooked vegetables should be cooked with a saturated fat.Dont eat for 5 h after the meal (digestion takes 4h in stomach and you should leave your stomach to rest and build up digestive juices for another 1 h) and dont drink anything 15 min at least before eating,during the meal and 90 min after you finished the meal. A proper meal should last between 20 and 30 min (to feel true satiaty) and propper chewing. Never eat more than 1L of volume at once.You should be really calm during the meal and without external stimulation (specially for the ones that are harder to digest).After the meal you should also walk gently about 3.5-4km/h (this is important so you dont interrupt the digestion process but when you walk gently you stimulate digestion).After that you can take a nap but not more than 30 min.You should not eat 4h before going to sleep.Not eating during 16 h per day works perfectly with a diet relatively high in animal products (18 h is best but not really necessary).High intensive interval training works very good with your type of diet too.There is so many things to say about that subject ! I tried so many things to be healthy; vegan,raw foodist,macrobiotic diet,GAPS diet,paleo etc...and this seems to work perfectly so far (12 years) ! Your personal opinion-- I know there is not much nutrients to then but I enjoy iceberg every now and then in a salad, I find it refreshing. I think that lettuce is really not bad for you, though, in any case.
Glen M I have to agree with that. I grew up in Germany and we never ate iceberg lettuce. And it’s still not a real thing, in Europe or Asia, now. I only became familiar with it, here in North America... where it’s a cheap add-in to many salad dishes, at home, in recipes and in restaurant meals. If I have a choice... I avoid it. I prefer “butter” lettuce or darker leafy greens, like kale, (raw) spinach, arugula, etc.

this is what people probably picture when they imagine low-carb foods. I think people don't realize that they can eat things like pizza, lasagna, burritos, burgers and chinese dishes with cauliflower rice without carbohydrates if you learn how to replace the carb ingredients.

Carrots aren't keto!! Being a root vegetable they contain quite a lot of carbs.

fabricpixie oh, maybe I should've asked how many carbs you try to stick to daily. I've heard that 'one' can eat up to 70 carbs a day and still be keto, but I'm still staying at less than 20carbs a day or sometime up to 25, but not often.

Ok. Diet heavy in fats and protein (mainly avocado, coconut, eggs, bison, beef, salmon, tuna) after five weeks raised my cholesterol levels from elevated to high. I go back in 3 months to get blood done again. So, do I double down or accept that high fat diet is not for me? Shit. Lost weight though....

holy living It's so hard to say whether you would become adapted as EVERYONE is so different! Sounds like you have a solid plan and it looks great. If you can do nuts, they're great too! I'd say: give it a whirl and see what your body does!
Your right! I can keep the higher fat way of vegan going and see what happens. In the past when I've increased fat but was eating all kinds of veggies I'd gain fat so obviously I didn't turn to fat burning mode even on a No starch vegan diet. Maybe bc it was higher calories than I needed and regardless where that comes from we store the excess.
holy living The High fat type diet is generally just an excuse to eat lots of meat and dairy. You could eat 5 lbs of Kale and a pound of Flax seed and it would work I guess. But Strawberries,Sweet-potatoes, Bananas,Beans and Apples are so good for you...So why bother?

I've been struggling with low carb, not much success due to thyroid issues. I have just watched your video and I have a question. After doing my research, I thought I am only allowed 1 to 1 1/2 cups of veggies a day?? And no root veggies? I imagine you are consuming more veggies because you are maintaining your weight, not persuing weight loss anymore? It's confusing, only because everyone has differing opinions.
exactly150 Hey! My clients who have thyroid imbalances do better with a touch more carbs. After I calculated this day, it worked out to be about 50g net of carbs. This still allows me to be in fat-burning mode without getting too crazy about vegetables. I always say - you shouldn't have to count your kale.
I did. I went on M Dougall's diet. Holy crap, I gained 10lbs in less than 2 weeks. In order for me to lose anything, albeit very very slow, is to consume not more than 10 g carbs/day. I have severe metabolic damage.
Healthful Pursuit advocates a diet high in good quality fats as well. My son is an oncologist and he now puts all his patients on a ketogenic diet. If done properly, actually increases HDL and lowers LDL. Also studies are being done that high fat diet stops metastatic disease. Fat is no longer demonized.

Don't eat keto. Instead, it would be much healthier if you ate high in carbs like rice, fruits and potatoes.
Im vegan but i like to look around and see what other people are doing and it seems like you need more fiber in your diet. Im not gonna say go vegan but it would really help, but do whatever the fuuuucck you wanna do lol
+mrshppy76 Here's my advice, for what it is worth. First make sure you are getting all the food that you should on the Keto plan, also, importantly, drink the amount of water recommended. If you still feel very out of sorts and have the problems with constipation, then try cutting back on meats and upping your veg to see if that helps, from what I know about fats, you need to have a good amount of them for your body to function properly, so I would only cut back on those if all else fails. Whatever you end up on that your body feels good with, I would definatly stick to several glasses of water (or tea, or herb tea) per day, as that is always good for you. Some people thrive more on a veg based diet, while others thrive on more of a meat/protein eating plan. Hope that helps. :-)
This person was just innocently asking for advice. Your rude and insolent response was TOTALLY uncalled for. First of all, this eating plan is a LOW starch and no sugar plan, but if you are comfortable with another way of doing things such as a vegan diet, that's great, but it doesn't give you the right to take pot shots and hurl insults at others who are either struggling or happy in another choice. Do as you like with your own body, but grow up and let others live as they choose!
+mrshppy76 The induction phase of Atkins is a ketogenic diet. Dr. Atkins (I'm reading his book right now) advises for constipation to get plenty of water and sprinkle a tablespoon or a little more of Psyllium Husk Powder on your meals.

if trying to kick into keto...you want to lay off carbs for sure and keep them to a minimal. They can be an enemy if trying to reach certain goals...but depends what you're trying to reach.

When you say you sip on the drink, do you mean you drink several up until lunch or just that one? Anyone else can comment, as well. I like to drink 2-3 cups of butter coffee, but a little concerned that’s too much.

I have no intention of switching back to a meat and dairy lifestyle (though I have no issues with others who do). I know I'll learn about the health of meat, which I understand is important if I'll be working with meat eaters. Hey Leanne, I just wonder, have you ever had your iron blood level and ferritin checked? I know you did lots of blood work in the past, anything about iron? This is one thing I struggle on high fat diet (Im a male) and I can imagine it can be even harder for females as they require more daily iron intake.

It doesn't work that way for me. If I only eat fruits and vegetables, then I'll certainly crave something else. Also, when I eat carbs, shortly after all I do is crave more carbs - like a vegan whole wheat wrap filled with nothing but veggies, beans and lots of hot sauce. I doubt that I'm unique in that way also. If I didn't exercise so much, I have probably have been obese when I was doing the ultra low-fat diet. You can stay lean on a low-fat diet, but for me it meant always being hungry and lots of running, cycling and cardio classes.
+Tim Mayer Agreed. I tried fruitarian. raw, high carb and even the McDougall diet and I lasted only a day on the McDougall because it calls for absolutely no fat and no meat. I know we're used to eating meat, but my diet felt very bland and I was constantly craving more food. I never usually crave meat but suddenly I was craving high fat meats and decided that it wasn't for me either. I tried doing only fruits and veggies for a day and I was starving. Soon, I just couldn't stand feeling so cold..I learned later from oriental medicine that too many fruits can make your body very cold and actually not work with everyone's digestion :(

In MY opinion, that meat was cooked a lot.I know that because it is dark brown wich is not good, that means it contains acrylamide (leads to cancer) and it is a HUGE endocrine disruptor. Your meat should be cooked rare or medium rare max.A better way even should be eating your meat in your meat stock (with some bone), super tender and way healthier.The stock should be eaten 15 to 20 min before eating your meat that you previously removed from the stock.The bouillon from the stock contains a lot of glycine witch balances the high amounts of methionine in meat.Also meat in MY opinion shoud be consumed once a weak about 3 to 6 ounces and that's it. During winter (if you live above 37 degres latitude north in north hemisphere or 37 degres latitude south in southern hemisphere) you can eat meat twice or even 3 times a week and in summer you should not eat meat at all. In spring and automn is kinda in between. Also when your meal should be 2/3 vegetables (not fruit) and 1/3 meat.Meat should have high amounts of fat in it and also cooked vegetables should be cooked with a saturated fat.Dont eat for 5 h after the meal (digestion takes 4h in stomach and you should leave your stomach to rest and build up digestive juices for another 1 h) and dont drink anything 15 min at least before eating,during the meal and 90 min after you finished the meal. A proper meal should last between 20 and 30 min (to feel true satiaty) and propper chewing. Never eat more than 1L of volume at once.You should be really calm during the meal and without external stimulation (specially for the ones that are harder to digest).After the meal you should also walk gently about 3.5-4km/h (this is important so you dont interrupt the digestion process but when you walk gently you stimulate digestion).After that you can take a nap but not more than 30 min.You should not eat 4h before going to sleep.Not eating during 16 h per day works perfectly with a diet relatively high in animal products (18 h is best but not really necessary).High intensive interval training works very good with your type of diet too.There is so many things to say about that subject ! I tried so many things to be healthy; vegan,raw foodist,macrobiotic diet,GAPS diet,paleo etc...and this seems to work perfectly so far (12 years) ! I love your videos btw and dont forget this is only MY opinion ! :)
+Mars Bel Oh I forgot. With this type of diet you should have 2 meals a day and in between you can have 500 ml of organic juice (80% vegetable and 20 % fruit with relatively low sugar content).Also inwinter you should not go over 70 gr of protein a day and in summer 35-40 g is ideal.

Glen M I have to agree with that. I grew up in Germany and we never ate iceberg lettuce. And it’s still not a real thing, in Europe or Asia, now. I only became familiar with it, here in North America... where it’s a cheap add-in to many salad dishes, at home, in recipes and in restaurant meals. If I have a choice... I avoid it. I prefer “butter” lettuce or darker leafy greens, like kale, (raw) spinach, arugula, etc.
