For those asking about how I didn't include GMOD Animations or Machinimas / SFM, I'll make another video explaining that. It's really because of the time constraints and the amount that I wanted to talk about, which couldn't fit into the 5-7 minute duration requirement. (Which I broke anyway lol)
Found this on my recommended. As someone who's been active in the Source community for about 3 to 4 years, it's nice seeing somebody make an essay about something admittedly very niche and unpopular, and you described the topic in a better way than I could. Man, what a comprehensive dive you have here! Top quality production value here, you killed it. Everything is concise and the content is perfectly packaged around quality mic and fitting music and clips. Would have liked to see some of the game content full screen. But awards on every level. You know this subject so you’re actually teaching it. One of a few tiny tiny critiques. Provided as to help of course. It runs pretty long. I’d say keep around 4-6 mins and just make a part two with a deeper dive or continued story. Also try and figure out if you’re doing this from the game player perspective or from looking at the company or technology. The difference in the two would drive your presentation style. But this is truly comprehensive and would be valuable in these communities or for outsiders like myself to learn about them, the new technologies and ideas. I believe in open source programs like blender so I see the benefits of this in game engines. Great job all around!
I don’t really play video games besides Mario kart lol so this video was very informative. I love your editing style and the clips you used throughout the video. I don’t know what mic you use but it sounds really good, it might just be your voice I feel like you have a nice commentator voice. Very nice video Harvey good job!
*Insert Resonance Cascade reference. Great video brother, more half life content please. Also saw Red Faction in your library, commentary on Guerilla would be dope. Much love man

You should've did/talk less about the source engine and more about SFM. you almost bridge it, but you didn't for a 9 min video towards film making. Your over all idea and video was good but you miss the main functionality of the video and who's going to watch it and what they should learn from it (what your trying to show). I'm assuming this video was made for and towards film students and people. I could be wrong but I do feel like you messed up or didn't have enough time (so that's why I said you should've congested it down and then added sfm) To me I felt like I missed what this has do with flim (almost completely) and more about game engines, mods, and community. (It's good to know it for sfm but not if you don't link source filming to the engine, then it's just another game engine as your describing it) You even used source as a filming tool for this video but didn't even mention it as such or talked about it in depth as a film tool. Instead you made out more as a game advancement towards... games and gamers.
that's actually a really good point you made there, I feel like I went into the video talking about it as an artistic medium rather than using it for film, but I might go into that for the next time. I appreciate it.
This is wonderful. I feel it would benefit you to work on speaking clearly a little bit more so we don’t get those small parts in the video where you almost stumble over your words. I do this a LOT too and had to deal with hearing myself do it when taking my public speaking class in college. Just something to look out for in your own speech. This video is spectacular though and I love the video essay format.
The topic was meant to discuss community and interactive content as a medium, the film students part is really just who this was directed to, specifically my class.
S&box will be how we use source 2 like we used to use source. I feel like if they release a new half life game, we may get better access to source 2 but I wouldn’t count on it. S&box is what will give us that kind of freedom
as far as i'm aware, s&box went a different route, but I do have, not high, but some hope that we'll see more stuff with Source 2, even if it is bare bones.
@@Findanother1 s&box was originally in UE but they’re running with source 2 as of I think nearly two years ago now. In several devblogs they’ve talked about how they’re heavily modifying the engine and dev tools to allow people to just play with it all. It’s not going to be the biblically accurate Source 2 like what we used to get with goldsrc and source 1, but I believe that’s the best capacity in which we’ll obtain source 2 access
I really like the editing and feel of the whole video, but I have trouble following what you're talking about. The wording throughout the entire video is just difficult to understand and poorly worded.
@@Findanother1 I can't really pinpoint it exactly but I think it's a combination of the semi-quiet / muffled speech, lack of variation in how fast you talk, and some strange word choice where I have to think a little too hard to understand what you're saying if that makes any sense.

Incredible video! I half expected you to mention SFM at some point as this is targeted towards film students :o
This was a great Find in my recommendation. Thank you for this! Source communities still going strong, years counting!

This is great, I have always wondered how could I explain the source engine to someone that is barely familiar with videogames, this is a great start.
