Great Job!!! I've been looking at the THR5A so I can begin playing my harmonica on the city sidewalks all across town. Right now I work out of my 2018 Doge Vity VanI take request for any song/singers/groups etc...I stream them from RUclips and play them back on my Mac Book Pro and play my harmonica along with the song so everyone can sing along with me and also make a video of the whole thing. Here's my new idea I got while I was in Anaheim, California attending the four day NAMM Show where I played my harmonica all four day for the harmonica making company "EASTTOP" who with-out a doubt is the very best harmonica in the whole world...and I did this free of charge of any kind (they did give me two sets of 12 harmonicas to use...which they gave to me latter after the show ended.) ... I want to take a guitar and install the THR5A inside it with the knobs located where I can turn them up or down. I want to cut the hole in the front of the guitar much larger and install a speaker there (the guitar will not be used for any other reason other than to carry the amp so I can have loud (portable) sound. Any ideas??? ie foot peddles, speaker, big guitar easy to tear apart and reassemble without looking like a kinder garden project???? Help!!!!! PS I'll put a video of my "The Harmonica Man" Van on my RUclips channel as soon as I come down from the high I got from playing at the NAMM Show. HELP!!!! PS I do have one song on RUclips by Elvis...I will be putting thousands of songs up there now that I have the time to do this whole harmonica thing right (First Class)...there is not on person in the whole world that plays the harmonica the way (style) I play...this is why you never see a harmonica playing in a band...People who play the blues style harmonica have their own band and it plays blues...NOT....everyday songs...I can play every song that has ever been recorded....Try me...give me a request..... Later.....Eli... "The King of Rock & Roll Harmonica". ruclips.net/video/l6XwYBocwno/видео.html
Very good demo and explanation of this little amp, I had only been playing my electric guitars for so long but I recently started playing my acoustic guitars. I have this amp and forgot how good sounds until I plugged into it. It really does sound good and I'm enjoying it.
Thanks very much for a great review of this wonderful little amp. In particular, I was interested in your opinion of the "EG CLN" mode, so thanks for that! I have to point out, though, what I believe is an error in your description of (what you refer to as) the "Super Wide Stereo" mode, which you access using the "Tap Time - Hold Tuner" button. In the user manual, they call it "Extended Stereo", and it's "ON" by default. This means that when you hold down the button for a few seconds, and the "#" symbol is displayed, this means that Extended Stereo is now OFF. From the user manual (page 9): Extended Stereo Setting Hold the switch for more than three seconds to switch the Extended Stereo* function ON/ OFF. ON: “#” on LED w is off (default setting). OFF: “#” on LED w is lit. * Extended Stereo: The Extended Stereo function produces a much wider stereo field. Extended Stereo effects the USB/AUX inputs as well as guitar sounds with DLY/REV or HALL effects applied. * The Extended Stereo setting (ON/OFF) is saved when the power is switched OFF.
Great review. Excellent that you tried it with an electric guitar, too. What makes me angry: the THR-()A style amps have this awesome microphone modeling, but the regular non-A THR models, even the newest THR-II models, don't have mic modeling for use with acoustics. They just have a lame acoustic setting that sounds like electro-piezo junk; clean but not acoustic. They're forcing you to buy two amps if you wish for an electric focus or for an acoustic focus, when, of course, every one of their amps could have all the software features.
15:15 super wide stereo mode. I did not know this had that mode. Had mine for years now. Thanks. Listening with headphones makes a difference with this video on iPad. I also didn’t know how to turn the lights off the front if wanted.
Very good review and the sound from the thr5a is amazing. I love the sound from this small amp with the right effects. I have seen a couple reviews but this is the best i have seent. You are the only one showing the special function with the super wide stereo what i like in this amp.
Dave, appreciate the detailed comments and examples of the various sounds the THR5A is capable of producing. I am in the market for a nice "at-home" amp to play my worship music. As a result of your video, this amp has now been placed high on my consideration list. Great review! Thanks and GOD Bless!
'If you're still here thanks for sticking around!' I've just got the TH30ii and found the only thing I like through it is acoustic guitar so might change it for this. The electric guitar sound and feel is nothing like a valve amp it's lifeless in comparison even everyone's saying it's amazing. I assume some of that is fake reviews endorsed by Yamaha. I think the THR10/20/30 is brilliant for people who don't know the difference.

Great video. Thanks for sharing this as I am seriously considering this amp. The instruction will be very helpful should I buy, which I am pretty sure I will be doing.

I like the way you explain. That's the purpose for me. Wonderful comparison. May I know where the amp is made? Also what do you use for your electric guitars at home. What do you recommend?
there is a high sort of continuous beep sound getting through when we listen to the amp, is that coming from your recording setup or the amp? It's not coming from the guitar since it's there for both the electric and the acoustic. Also, when the room sound is on the tinnitus type noise disappears.
I jus ordered one of these units... been looking for weeks. You said "direct out" ??? USB or ear jack? Anyway, I think it is a 10 Watt unit, five watts for each of two speakers.
thank you so much for this, much appreciated. an awesome in- depth overview. best on ytube., 👍👍 just picked it up & love this amp. is it best to remove the batteries everytime it's going to be plugged into external power. ✌ 🇨🇦
Such a great little amp. It could be the perfect desktop acoustic amp. I also tried a joyo sweet baby pedal with a strat running Alnico V pickups on the EG clean setting. It sounded very very good. Considering that single coils can get a little noisy, on this amp they really cleaned up. The sweet baby is more like a boost pedal than an overdrive. It's a great combo and surprisingly loud and clear.
I don't think that amp would work too well for an electroacoustic. It's all about the top end. An amp designed for electric guitar is voiced so that there's not as much top end in the sound, so it doesn't sound unpleasantly fizzy - an electroacoustic needs a fuller range. (the THR5A I'm demoing here has a specific mode to roll off som etop end to allow it to be used with an electric, which is pretty much the inverse of the use case you're describing). An electroacoustic into a regular amp designed for electric guitar would sound dull
Great review and many thanks. Just curious, Would this work well with a looper pedal? I’ve been researching for a while now looking at many acoustic amps with built in effects vs fx loop. This little amp would fit my needs perfectly and sounds great for the money but I have heard that the larger THR10 (designed for electric guitars) isn’t great with a looper. Apparently the loops seem to fade out once played over. Just wondered if the same happens on the acoustic version? I also understand that any effects applied, would be apparent on the whole loop as not possible to bypass the pre-amp, I.e, no fx loop. This wouldn’t worry me too much but just interested to know if the amp works well with a looper pedal?
This is the first video of yours that I've seen. I was happy when I saw you stand your ground on your video style.
Yeah Same here
Same goes for me. Thanks for the information on the amp.
Same here! Subscribed :)
In a small coffee shop, it can be loud enough….I’ve used it quite a bit in that situation….a great sound.

Thanks for taking the time to show in great detail all the features this amp provides. Your review has prompted me to buy one. Great job.
Glad the video helped - let me know how you get on with the amp
What a fabulous full featured COMPLETE review. Thank you for the rigor of your demonstration.
Thumbs up for the explanations, Thanks for putting this together.

Glad you found the video useful. Wide stereo is a great little feature, but not advertised nearly enough through the user interface.

Great review. You mention a direct out, but I don't see that, unless you mean the "phones" output.
Yes, when I said direct out I meant the oputput labelled as headphone out
