- I talk about the new The Story So Far album I Want To Disappear.
The Story So Far are known for their albums Under Soil and Dirt, What You Don't See and Proper Dose. They're also known for their songs All this time, lettermen, empty space, big blind, quicksand, heavy gloom and clairvoyant.
Never Normal is where I talk about Emo, Punk, Pop Punk, Ska, Metal, Rock music and everything under the Alternative music genre. I talk about bands like Rites of Spring, American Football, Blink 182, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Paramore to Modern Baseball, Title Fight, Touche Amore, Joyce Manor, Hot Mulligan and festivals like When We Were Young and Riot Fest.

This album is S Tier. It feels like the culmination of every sound they've had over the years. I heard callbacks to every album whether lyrically or sonically.
Thanks for watching!
Seems like the same thing like Vampire Weekend did with their newest album
I really don’t understand this take. It has the weakest word play, lead guitars are completely smothered out by rhythm, undoes the “reboot” and fresh air that Proper Dose gave the band (instrumentally at least) and all around sounds like generic pop punk. Easily the worst TSSF album and it’s not even close… White Shores is the only song that’s amazing
@@loansharks47 I understand what you’re saying about the reboot, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that this is their worst album, I think maybe you do other records. As someone who also recently lost a parent, the writing on this is fantastic to me because it specifically describes how I’ve felt since losing my mom in ways that I could never express. It’s the most relatable album I’ve heard, and I think the writing Parker uses us just as good as it always has been. Also because of the motivation behind this album, to me, it feels like Parker has had this reignited flame for this band and music as a whole. There’s a lot of passion behind it
@@tannerlove8156 respectfully disagree. Music is subjective and we’re all going to interpret things differently, but this album is missing a lot of what made TSSF special for me. I was looking forward to listening to Parker’s take on grief and loss but he doesn’t bring anything new to the table. There’s a lot of music that touches on that subject in more engaging and interesting ways. Not to say that Parker’s grief isn’t valid or that it’s not enough, he just didn’t do a good job of channeling it into his art in my opinion. White Shores is the one exception where I really feel the band brought something new instrumentally and lyrically. That song is a top 3 TSSF song for me and goes to show what this album could have been. Other than that we get some predictable lyrics of grief layered on top of generic pop-punk. There’s little to no cohesion between the subject matter and the instrumentals. What happened to the soaring lead guitars from their self-titled album? “All This Time” has a somewhat decent lead that gets buried under a chunky and ugly riff, so even the production is off… What happened to the clever and poetic word play from What You Don’t See? There’s just nothing here that sees this band transitioning into the 2020’s with anything new or interesting. I’m bummed because TSSF is my favorite band of all time, so seeing this level of effort is extremely disappointing. Honestly feels like a cash grab by the members to help support their individual projects. Which is fine, but I’m not going to pretend like this album isn’t absolutely awful.
White Shores might be my favorite song in their whole catalogue. Incredible album.
I agree it's different but in a perfect way
So good man!
I pop punk song made me ball like a baby lol
Just hits to close to home
Song of the year. The final minute in particular is incredibly good
What an absolutely beautiful album. My papaw (grandpa) who I lived and, eventually worked with, for a lot of my life, passed away unexpectedly a couple years ago. I think I’ve barely cried twice since. I can’t listen to some of these songs without choking up thinking of him. Thank you TSSF.
Completely agree with your last point. They’re my Goats. Even over Blink (I know that’s a hot take but that’s how much I love and respect this band).
Same. The creative IQ is strong with this band.
Been a fan since the maker split. This album has moved me in a way no music ever has. So proud of all of them
The last song is the first song in many years to put me in tears. I don't know what the fuck it is about TSSF, but their ability to blend melancholy, nostalgia, and joy just cuts so deep.
Give them a grammy
Give them all the fucking awards! But in our minds this is an absolute banger, even if they don't get any mainstream recognition
Proper Dose is one of my fav TSSF albums. It’s amazing.
Watch You Go hurt way too personally, such a beautiful and relatable song
the story so far has been my favorite band since i was a freshman in high school - self-titled was my first tssf release. then i was a freshman in college and proper dose came out. their music has matured with me and it's so cool how much they've grown musically! their songs will always bring me back to my love for pop punk. i want to disappear was a beautiful ode to loss and grief. the writing was so vulnerable, raw, and self-reflective. it reminds me a lot of the things i loved about proper dose. i listen to a lot of different kinds of music - from pop punk to latin to indie to kpop - but this album has definitely been my favorite this year!!
I remember being at one of their first shows in the Bay. Seeing them grow and all the culmination of all the sounds coming into full swing into this album is full circle moment for me. Years later after my father passed hearing this it just brought back so much nostalgia and melancholy at the same time. 12/10 album of the year for me.
New TSSF fan here, I grabbed the target vinyl as soon as I could. I am in love with this album and the band in general. It really does feel like all the sounds they’ve done. Parker’s voice and lyrics are the stand out for me, I love how smooth his voice is, reminds me of how Ben from Neck Deep is!
Thanks for watching!
@@NeverNormal ofc dude! Definitely subbing :)
I was NEVER a fan of TSSF. Call me crazy but they just didn’t do anything for me. This album…has made me a huge fan. This album…is beyond good. It’s so beautifully written. Can I also say that I LOVE that you brought up “Stage Four” from Touché Amore. New TSSF fan here. Hello everyone
wow! i had the same feeling listening to this as i did listening to Stage Four. so powerful but put so simply. great video! got my sub
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the kind words!
I'm loving the new TSSF album! So happy to have new music from them 🔥🖤
I was honestly a bit sketchy about how the album would sound after hearing the driection proper dose went but its a banger. Absolutely love it
I've been behind Proper Dose since Day 1. Same with IWTD.
Good stuff my bro can’t wait for mine to come in 😂
Thanks for watching!
Watch you go I knew it be a hit and your still in my way are bangers
I like what you said about this genre of music being uniquely tooled to deal with themes of grief. I think punk and its spinoffs are super interesting in that regard, because when people are grieving they are rarely just sad. A lot of them are angry. Why did the world do what it did to you, why would you leave me alone, how am I supposed to do this without you, those are the sort of questions people will ask with so much anger and rage behind them. By being the pop punk album that it is, the album gives voice to that side of grief in a really poetic and beautiful way.
Thanks for watching!
Watch you go I knew it be a hit and your still in my way are bangers
Loving this album. Might be their best, and I absolutely love What You Don’t See
I grew up with Under Soil and Dirt as a tween and followed this band my whole life. Thia is the first physical CD ive ever bought from them.
It's growing on me, but other than Big Blind which might be their best song ever, nothing hits like their first two albums.
And Song Of... Is probably their best project. It might be nostalgia goggles, but I don't get the hype yet. I'll listen to it more in the car.
Album of the year.
He wrote saying that this was the hardest album to write lyrically because he said he was unable to express anything but anger and he Said this album helped him reach out and talk about hos feelings. That is a mind of a great writer who heals through their own art. Im so glad i didn't kill myself last year or this year because I waited for this. I also had a gap in between tssf and it was fot different reasons. I took a decade away from them and last year around may people said they broke up silently and oh my im so glad this album is proof that life is beautiful and music is the great communicator. Beautiful.
I really enjoyed it. Great Pop Punk record. Good review.
Thanks!
If I was eager to listen to it before, now my anxiety has multiplied by 1000000000. I can't wait until the 21st haha.
It's worth the wait!
hi! proper dose got me into the story so far. :)
This is everything I could ever ask for. Love their new sound!
I‘m 47 and i‘m a big fan of this…
i would say emotional punk band, they just awesome live and their sound is full of positivity & sensations even if the writings are kind of sad!!!👊🏽🔥💪🏽go TSSF goo….🤘🏽
All this time is unbelievably good❤
just got into the story sofar and I love them!
Great band!
I slowly became a fan of The Story through Parker’s side project No Pressure in 2022 & I mistaken the main band as Four Years Strong back in 2012 so hahaha took me a while to hop on the wagon. Their new album has solidified me as a fan!
Thanks for watching!
Can't wait for listen to this masterpiece🔥
🔥
Compré en pre-order y estoy ansioso que llegue acá a Perú
It's sooo good
Absolutely loved stage 4 and I really can’t wait to hear this record based off of this review of it!
thanks for watching!
Proper dose was a perfect album for me at the right time of my life anyone who doesn’t like it ….. shame
Proper dose is my favorite album so far. Under soil and dirt is timeless but proper dose defines them maturing as musicians
I love Proper Dose. It is a no skip album for me
8:08 I'd have to say the blues is probably the genre most associated with sadness and grief. That being said I'm on board with what you say, I listen to tssf on a daily basis and am currently going through a bad time in life and this album is really getting me through it 🙏🏼
Brooo so so so good
album of the year! absolutely nailed it dude
Thanks for watching!
Super solid album. This years been alright with this new one and the new one from Neck Deep
Great year for pop punk
Proper dose was their best, but I want to disappear is right behind it.
proper dose is probably my favorite album ever maybe floral green or copasetic not far behind but proper dose is so underrated
@@kvb_4117 agreed 100%
Glad you loved it my man ❤ - Jcan
I liked proper dose, because it came out as i was maturing. I think a good comparison for it would be Coming Home from New Found Glory. It wasn't received well when it came out. People didn't feel it until 10 years later when their crowed was more in their 20s and 30s
Uhh wym I never heard a single negative comment about "proper dose" lol the general consensus is that its one of their best albums. Self titled was the album that received the most hate
7:30 Was the word you were thinking of cathartic/ catharsis?
Yes!
Albums Ranked in my opinion:
1 WYDS (9.2)
2 USAD (9)
3 IWTD (8.2)
4 TSSF (7.5)
5 PROPER DOSE (7)
Agree or nay?
Hella agree
Agreed, with the possible swapping of USAD and IWTD.
They dont miss!
Thanks for watching!
So good
Let’s be honest… what band is better? When it comes to pop punk and consistently putting out QUALITY sounds & lyrics, who is better? I’ll answer that for you - nobody.
The Wonder Years 🤷🏻♂️
Neck Deep?
Weezer
Even with the physical CD, I found the production on this record really weird. The vocals arent crisp enough and everything sounds like it's in the middle of the mix with no highs or lows.
JUMP THE GUN IS SO FUCKING GOOD
it's a banger!
No it’s not, that’s the worst song on there
Nothing to say = hey ex that I’ve been writing about, I’m going through real trauma now … worse then the heart break could ever do. and I wish I could grieve to you but I can’t
Tomorrow is the day!
Can't wait for everyone to hear it!
LFG
Can't wait till everyone hears it!
This and the One Step Closer album are the best releases so far. As well as All Under Heaven and Wreckage! But please, everyone do yourself a favour and listen to OSC
Oh and Koyo and Anxious! Both had records last year that I truly believe if you love TSSF you’ll love those two as well. Lots of good stuff coming out that too many are sleeping on
Nothing To You I guess would be the chillest song as sonically speaking but its the saddest i believe. It means so much to me.
Who does the cover art for their albums?
Why are you styled like how we grew up ?
stupidly good
So… is this a Pop Punk album?
I love "big blind". But the new version sucks, not rough enough, to poppy.
Pop punk? Alright
It was actually predictable and it built up to not catchy endings more often than not
This album is ass fast
im sorry but the drums kill this album for me. They are very boring compared to another albums, for me it was always the highlight. These are just uninspired.
I still liked Neck Deeps self titled more but this is an amazing album
ngl it's pretty mid. No song on there is as good as Big Blind.
Yooo Big Blind is the most average song out of the whole album 😂
Totally agree. Big Blind and White Shores are the only standouts to me
Big blind is good and catchy... But the rest of the album bears the certified mark of The Story So Far in its purest state and enhanced by the same maturity
It’s like they wrote every song THE day his father passed.
Not a good album at all. Big blind is the only good song.
You know i had to play the album a couple times to get into it. I feel like the mixing on this album is like proper dose, a little too much on the autotune for Parker and the instrumentals could definitely be better or just played out a little bit longer like when I think of Framework.
Its not their best album but ill take it
I feel the grief in the album and for me its the friends ive watched die or my family who's dead to me because im queer and they abused me whole life as an autistic kid. It also reminds me of the life we lived with tssf back in the day touring. Makes me miss love and connection.
I wish parker the best. This album is so beautiful
