Not a Tactics Ogre reference but the Eastern Orthodox Church in OG 64 was a pretty blatant reference to the Christian Orthodoxy, plus all the references to Berthe and Danika and the Underworld story which are Gaelic.
Also forgot to mention the Brigade of Radiant Cross that Lodis sends, is made up of Criminals and disgraced Knights. It is a reference to people who went on Crusade and were given Absolution from their sins by the Pope. A popular reason for people to go Crusading and which gained many Mercenaries as well as a few disastrous groups such as the Childs Crusade and the Crusaders who sacked Constantinople in the Fourth Crusade.
The Ogre Battle fan base is huge, but silent. We need to go toe-to-toe with Final Fantasy Tactics fans ASAP It's just a shame I'm not very good at gameplay, I leave that to my other friends! Here we have story with the old astromancer! 🧙🏼♂️
I see only one way to boost the Ogre Battle Saga fans’ morale : we should kill a village of them and make everybody think it was FFT fans who did it ! This plan was approved by Duke Rowney 👍
Very nice parallels, especially with the Justinian empire, I completely overlooked that one! If the Ogre 8 notes are accurate, we may have even seen a similar situation to his wife Theodora taking over after he got sick. Also always thought Dorgalua seemed a lot like Vytautas the Great of Lithuania.
History is full of great figures who commanded large portions of land and unified various nations under their own rule. For that reason I didn't want to risk a guess about Dorgalua, especially in the context of the Great World War. I thought about making a parallel between Apocrypha and atomic bombs, but that also seemed too hasty a parallel. Who knows, maybe with more study I'll do a part 2 in the future! Good to see you here, I'm still trying to learn how to play Reborn with your helpful guides hehehe
I knew a thing or two coz some of Matsuno's interviews, but never thought this much, though. Btw, theres some Berserk references throughout the game. Great job!!
Lovingly through video, well done! But I was a little surprised that you didn't mention the origin of the Warren Report itself. For anyone curious, the Warren Report is named after the Warren Commission, the federal investigation into the assassination of John F. Kennedy, itself named for its chairperson, Earl Warren. Chief Justice Warren presided over several landmark cases, including Brown v. Board of Education and Miranda v. Arizona. It's fitting Matsuno would borrow his name for one of the most powerful mages in the saga.
There are so many more references that friends commented on this video that I can already prepare a part 2! About the Warren Report I literally forgot to comment on this fact, I was looking for historical sources from much longer in the past to correlate. Your tip will certainly be present in the next video, thank you very much for your contribution!
Kind of off topic, but the channel Kings and Generals have amazing history battle videos with history and analysis. They also made another channer to do the same but to fantasy.
Human history is the best inspiration for fantasy and fiction. I encourage people to read and watch human history. One good example is Roman Republic transition into the Roman Empire; inspire Star Wars prequel movies.
Exactly! It can be said that most of the best stories in video games have references to real stories behind them. Nothing is more real and visceral than true stories.
I always think Dorgalua Oberyth as Joseph Broz Tito, considering that Dorgalua is the one that united the Valerian kingdoms, much like Tito that carried Yugoslavia from WW2 to his death. And much like TO Dorgalua, Tito promoted interracial marriage. His death marks the beginning of the end to Yugoslavia. Didnt expect such discussion comes up in TO fanbase, well-done!
Before I watch the video...I started playing Tactics Ogre in 1997 on the Playstation. I beat it seeing the two different endings (lawful and chaotic). I picked up Reborn the day it released on the PS5 but I got involved with so many other games that I stopped for a time. Well...I'm back at it again and I just chose to be lawful and man...I forgot how dark this game is. I will have to do a chaotic run after this. At any rate... It's been a very long time but if I remember correctly Final Fantasy Tactics: Let Us Cling Together (Reborn) is based off of two very dark world events. The first is obvious as The War of Roses is definitely a big part of the game. The other most people don't seem to know about is the Yugoslavian War (1990's) and Syrian Civil War. I'm curious if this video discusses these wars in its findings and if so, how far down the rabbit hole does it go? Here goes... Addendum- Oh wow...I did not see the Byzantinian connection nor did I pick up on its connections to World War I. Bravo my good sir, bravo. You did miss The War of Roses 1455-1487 The House of Tudor (victor) vs. The House of York and it lasted for 32 years. Can you imagine that today?
Hi friend! Final fantasy Tactics and Ogre battle let us cling togerher are 2 different games. Final fantasy tactics is inspired in the war of the roses, tactics ogre is inspired in the yugoslavian war
I always knew that The Bosnian War was the inspiration for this game, but not to this level of details. Thanks for taking the trouble of researching such interesting and deep topic ❤️
I knew of the War of Roses reference with Final Fantasy Tactics. But not once did I expect an actual real life reference for the war in Tactics Ogre. Sure I picked up on the references of the Lodis Empire, probably why it made it easy for me to dislike them and see them as an enemy immediately. Yet again, I did not see the references, even the ones that should be obvious with the Zenobia Empire. - Now after seeing this video, I feel to look deeper at other references in the Person of Lordly Caliber game. Granted I'm suspecting the Eastern Barbarians that destroyed Palatinus in the Chaotic Bad Ending are related to the Huns... maybe. Oh lots of looking back now with a magnifying glass.
I have got to buy and play this game smh missed every sale its been on because im afraid it will be too difficult or too long for me as a busy adult 😭 i will get it i have to!
Thank you. While being in elementary school during the war, we french kids had to donate to help kosovars. The horrors we heard were deafening, and our generations are pretty much appaled by what’s happening in the world, with the rise of fascism and nationalism
I think a more suitable parallel for the events in the ob:motbq would be queen zenobia against the roman empire or specifically during the times of aurelian (restorer of rome). I watched a vid about it here in yt ruclips.net/video/R3-9TQU0VrM/видео.html. I think you will see a lot more parallels here like when she united her compatriots against the roman empire same as when queen endora united the five kingdoms against lodis.
I always figured Lodis was sort of an amalgamation of a bunch of different imperial powers. The Holy Roman Empire and Catholicism are most obvious, since they have a pope and templars and legions and such, but some of their conquests and mass forced conversions resemble Muslim empires as well. Their strategies for dominating other countries, like creating caste systems or putting their military might behind favored factions in civil wars, also resemble modern imperial powers like west European countries during the colonial era or the US and Russia during/after the Cold War, respectively.
🧙🏼♂️🧙🏼♂️ Do you know any other references to real events in the saga? Comment below!

I'm SURE they would fight and that would cause the Ogre Battle! hahaha

I'm a big fan of Berserk but I think I didn't pay much attention... what are the references in OB?
It’s pretty crazy how accurate this might be, and that it’s simply a matter of swapping the positions of countries for Galgastan and Bakram.
The inspirations are pretty evident in my opinion

I know some but none in tactical format, sorry! 🧙🏼♂️

Romance of The Three Kingdoms series. It's feudal China at the end of the Han Dynasty.

Final fantasy tactics is inspired in the war of the roses, tactics ogre is inspired in the yugoslavian war
Neat and informative. I Hope they really continue the story, or atleast provide an anctual ending to the saga.
Yes, we're all hopeful that Reborn's success will be enough for the developers to think about it.
There’s five episodes that haven’t been told. The Gods directly interfering with the Ogre Battle in Episode 1-4* would be pretty metal.
"This is considered the most violent war in Europe after WW2"
Russia: It is considered the most violent SO FAR
Yeah....but despite the circumstances, the causes and events in Bosnia were brutal!
Good video. I feel like we will have another ogre battle soon irl.
Lets hope! 🙏

Could Lodis be considered Tactics Ogre's version of Islam?
I think the reference is much more to Christianity, due to the crusades and the image of the Templars that Lodis shows.
@@WarrenReport Pope Saldian's takeover could be symbolic of Iranian revolution that turned the country into a theocracy.

Final Fantasy XII also references the Roman era and the Cold War with the conflict between the Archadian and Rozarrian Empires, btw
