  • This video is about how to lengthen your backswing to gain distance and the science behind why! I wanted to highlight the science behind the reason why making this change would lead to more club speed and distance.

The hardest thing for me to type was "distance for senior golfers". Having played almost scratch golf most of my life losing distance is a hard concept to accept. But here I am. And sure enough this has helped me. The launch monitor instantly showed an clubhead increase without any extra effort. Thank You!

This is a very useful tip! I've always wondered why I couldn't comfortably achieve a larger backswing, especially since I'm still young. Now I know. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Letting the left heel release off the ground on the backswing is helpful and maybe necessary to achieve a longer backswing

I am that oldish dude with a 3/4 swing. I love how you explained this. Great job with Matt from TXG as well. you have a new subscriber! Good luck on expanding the channel.

Nice video. The position you show initially is me. I can make a fuller back swing but at the ball I tend to do the across the body short swing. What do you think about taking the club more outside? I am going to try the raising the arms move. Thanks

Great tip many times I'm not even aware of low arms

I feel like when I try to lengthen my backswing it makes my head move towards my trail leg and I’m not staying over the ball.

This is the simple difference between me turning in 95+ shot rounds and hunting for 80 again... fun to finally have solid ball striking again.

Thanks. Finally a video about lengthening the swing. I lost speed working with an instructor that tried to convert me to a 1 plane swing. My speed dropped to 105mph with the driver over a 4 year period and 155mph ballspeed. Since I started working on lengthening my swing back up and adding more ground force my ballspeed PB so far is 179mph. My question is how do you lift without raising the lead shoulder into your chin. My old swing lead arm position was around 1030 position at the top I'm trying to get it to 12 o'clock.

By tilting your neck a little to make room (see Jack Nick as an example). Tilting your neck in the BS can really lengthen your swing quite a bit.

@@canefan17 are you referring to tilting your head to the side like trying to touch your left ear to the left shoulder in the backswing for a right handed golfer?

    • @canefan17
      @canefan17 2 года назад

@@SasquatchTour yes. Just be sure to keep your eye on the ball. But go look up Jack Nicklaus’s swing. His trigger move was a little head/neck tilt - which allowed for a hit shoulder turn.
And just to illustrate the point, turn your head completely to the right (where you can’t see ball anymore) and then take it to the top. Huge turn.
Then go back to address and turn your head towards the target and try to take it to the top. Very restricted turn.

@@canefan17 got it thanks. Just from a range of motion relieving the neck tension allowed me to go from about 90 degree shoulder turn to about 130 degrees. I'm left eye dominant so the head turn should be easier for me and remain looking at the ball. I'll try to incorporate that Nicklaus with ground force takeaway. It's funny because when I stretch and do exaggerated drills to lengthen the swing before I hit the ball I let the head turn and tilt and I can get to a bubba Watson look at the top but when I swing my head must be the restriction because my swing looks more like Rahm finishing the backswing around 1030 on the clock. I'll report back on if I see any gains. Thanks again for the tip.

@@SasquatchTour I had same exact issue as well. BackSwing was basically a 1/2 swing.
I’m working on lengthening the swing with neck tilts and full wrist hinge.
I feel the wrist hinge as more of a trail wrist extension motion than any radial deviation. But I’m not sure if this is limiting how much hinge I could be getting.
The swing I currently have is money with short irons, but really struggle with mid to long irons (low ball flight etc). Gotta get the swing speed up.
Let me know if you find anything else that helps.
