  • Sleep paralysis is a pretty frightening yet common event affecting 7.6% of the general population, 28.3% of students, and 31.9% of psychiatric patients at least once in their life.
A lot of people say it feels like you’re half awake but you’re unable to speak or move, which makes you super frustrated and scared. Also, since you’re half awake, you may still have residual dream-like imagery happening all around you, adding to the fear.

I sleep on the stomach too
If I fall asleep anywhere else, I will end up with some sleep paralize.
I usually know it is going to happen because while I am dreaming everythings slows itself down and I see stuff before I end up with the paralize.
I usually try to move around before it happens.
After moving around enough it stops and nothing happens.

Two things I've done to combat Sleep Paralysis: Drink plenty of water, I've found that this happens more when I am dehydrated. Just consider that I might still be dreaming, this helps you stop panicking and then I told myself to wake up.

Used to get it occasionally, hasn't happened in a while, it's quite scary, but if u can keep a cool head (quite difficult to do since you've just woken) u can get some pretty interest experiences. I've tried screaming, talking and moving, But since your brain has essentially switched off your body, it's impossible, u can however wake ur self up fully if u keep at it long enough, feels like somebody is squishing ur chest that's the worst bit of it.

Once I was asleep and I dreamt that I woke up and that I was in my room so I decided since I woke up I should go up and turn the lights on. I spent I think a few minutes trying to wake myself up in real life and not being able to by stumbling around the dark room in my dream trying to locate the light switch. It was pretty frightening.

This has happened to me off an on ever since I was in my teens. It's very scary. For the most part, as long as I avoid sleeping on my back it's not too frequent.

First time it happened to me I was very young. I remember the feeling of dread and the visuals I saw were of black cats running over my body, keeping me from moving. I tried screaming for my parents but nothing would come out. Very traumatic for a kid, but as I grew older and the more it happened I didn't freak out as much. I now recognize the situation and instead of freaking out I focus on waking up. I also found several of my triggers and try to avoid them, but it doesn't always help.

I used to get this when I was younger and too a much lesser extent now. never seen any weird imagery but basically I wake up and have this bizarre tingling sensation like someones pinning my down or a large snake is wrapped round me all over my body I can move but only a little bit. It usually lasts about a minute when I'm able to sortof break out of it

I had it often when I was really little, between kindergarten and primary school. It hurt because I slept on my twisted arm/hand and couldn’t move it. Obviously as a kid it was scary, but eventually I got used to it and just thought ‘again???’ Afterwards I just close my eyes to force myself asleep.

Yes, it’s happened to me early in the morning but the last time it happened was 9 o’clock in the morning and I just got out of the shower. You might want to go back to the drawing board about that one because someone needs to answer. Why did it happen to me when I had just got out of a shower? I had laid back on the bed wide-awake and it happened and the reason it stopped was instead of fighting it like I normally would’ve done I went with it and it released me..

I used to experience this sleep paralysis very often but it had stopped in a while... But yesterday I experienced it again and I literally saw a hand above me and I was unable to move, make sound to call anybody.. that was truly scary tbh! But as I have experienced this before I know that it was not some ghost it was just my mind tricking me during sleep paralysis

every few months, and less often as I get older and yesterday morning, i experience this. I don't sleep well and i wake very easily. once in a great while I fall into a deep sleep and i don't hear anything in the real world. Normally when i wake from a deep sleep dream I just feel hazy and almost nostalgic of my dream.
yesterday morning I was awake, but in full sleep mode. normally in this case I am not paralyzed, but i am sitting up and forcing myself to stay awake while i see that i am somewhere i am not aloud to nod off, like school or work and sometimes my bedroom will come into focus and i remind myself i am at home, i am aloud to sleep, just ignore that teacher who yells at me. this repeats for hours. it is like being conscious that you are sleep "walking" where real world and dream world mix together.
now, when i get sleep paralysis, it is aways the same type of imagery. I am waking up, or at least maybe dreaming of laying in my bed? feels like reality. and some one climbs up the bed, up my body and are going to do something horrible. like The Grudge. or bite my face off, anything. and i can't move, i can't even scream, and it's coming closer.
this time it started out different. I wasn't in bed. I was in my old house i grew up in, it was dark, i was at the top of the stairs to go into the dark bathroom, 2 rooms behind me. I was alone, but felt a presence. I wanted to look behind me, but i felt if i did, then the dark room in front of me someone would attack. So i just decided to go in to get the light. As i went to, i heard the floor creak. it was my sister. she was sleep walking. but all i know is i slowly turned and my hair was pulled as i slowly fell, my head hit the wall and i became paralyzed. I did feel my bed and the walls were my bedroomwalls. I fell and "woke up", but my sister, who was not her, it was this even possessed person. a sleep walker with evil thoughts. Lord knows who she thinks she is or who I am, but she had the blank look of a psychopath about to emotionlessly carve out my face or something.
I tried to scream. yell her name. i was able to get muffled sounds from my limp mouth and frozen chest. Jenn! jenn! jenn! wake up! dont! but it was just "mm! mm! enn!" just quiet peeps. as her face got closer to mine, knowing she was going to hurt me in some demonic horrifying way. i actually was able to lift my weak dead arm up, like whenyour arm is asleep and it's just this weighted limb. i wanted to push her back, and she just looked at my then falling arm out of curiosity, then this evil smile, i muffled one more quiet ghostly scream and as she came out me with this ripped open black mouth she disappeared and i was able to move and it was just me in the room.
my whole body was a mix of pins and needles, all hairs standing up, and the anxiety and high BP just lingered for a long time. still can't get it out of my brain.
You can rarely, IF ever, in that moment tell yourself "this is a dream, this is just natural, just stay calm" when this happens. If you are not in a dreamstate, maybe you can, as long as your mind doesn't make things up, but even then, it can be hard to breath. it's worse than trying to calm yourself during a panic attack when you are not sure if it is a heart attack, and then add possible demons, aliens or someone crushing you while you are trying to calm yourself, IF you are even aware that this isn't real.
for those people that feel it all the time.. i'm sorry :(

Something that made it appear more frequently, for me at least, would be to make that you nerves connecting at the back of your neck is blocked, meaning you have to add pressure to the back of your neck, as if lying with the weight on it on something. That helps in making the cut-off happen. Also, it is easier to have close to waking up

I don't believe this because everytime it happens to me it is a different attack. Once it was like a spider demon crawling on my forehead. Another time it was like a homosexual demon groping me from behind. Another time is was a demon pressing me down. If my body was paralyzed it should feel like the same thing is happening but is not. By the way I have never seen shadows or anything like that. Another time I remember I was fighting a super strong hairless cat demon. Maybe because I'm Christian I get attacked so much.
