Dropped my controller and the X button stopped working. Came here to see how to fix it. Too much work. Dropped the controller again on purpose. X button now works fine.
A visiting dog chewed away half a joystick. Ordered a replacement from dx, and used this video to avoid too many of my own blunders replacing it - this did the trick. Thanks for taking the time to share :)
A recommendation for keeping track of small parts: use some bowls from the kitchen. Also, put a cloth down on the work surface to keep screws from bouncing or rolling away.
Thank you for your help. I noticed other videos just open the controller up easily. They don't explain where the front clip is and the difficulty if this is the first time. You saved me time and money. I appreciate you taking the time to save me time.
If you are swapping batteries make sure that you let the control charge for a little while before you test it because I couldn't get it to turn on and was freaking out slightly
@Falluccafier123 if your looking to mod the led lights, you don't need to take it off and I don't think it can come off... modding the leds is only messing with the lights on the circuit board meaning you have to de-soder the current red leds and soder the colored led light you wish to put on... If the video helped please leave a like and if you have any other questions I will definitely try to answer them
I had dropped my controller twice or thrice and the housing kindof unclamped between the screws of L1 and in the middle. I was afraid I could mess it up, but your video helped me a lot and managed to fix and clean it in like 10', without even taking it all apart. Thank you very much Chris!
I can't even get the ps3 apart.. ps2 controllers are much more easier to pull apart and they are even older! Screw you Sony for making things complicated.

@Videogamefanaitc2468 I just disassembled the newest type of controller and with the rumble packs there are two white stubs that stick out like small poles, use your pointer and thumb and squeeze the two poles together till you hear them clip off. That's if you have the newest controllers that come in the cardboard packaging. thanks for watching and leave a thumbs up if this helped! thanks
@@flavioanguiano8461 I thank you kindly, for I patiently awaited a solution to this challenge for four years. With renewed resolve, I shall now press forward in my endeavor.
There were 2 little screws holding each of the rumble packs in on my controller. Anyway, very good guide. I needed to replace the pin which makes the trigger button spring back. Was struggling for a while, came here, sorted 5 mins later. Good stuff.
I Needed to clean my controller cuz I was having input errors, in button presses, like multiple buttons and stuff like that, I was having a hard time disassembling the controller, thanks man for your help, now my controller is like new.
I'm probably late but you have to re adjust the spring to be pushing against the white thing that holds the shoulder buttons and rumble motors. Obviously you have to disassemble it
@xXzeregaXx which part are you at? your motherboard and plastic pad is still together... are you trying to take out the rumble packs, what they have is a sticker that sticks on to the plastic carriage so you just cautiously with a good strength and push it out.
I used a pair of small pliers and squeezed really gently while I pulled it out and it came right out 👍🏻 for anyone who is having the issue of no nails or just can’t get it to pop out. I tried with my fingers but I couldn’t get it
It made sense of you dont want to buy a new controller should probably have a static strap to keep wiping out your circuit board once you open it up the controller it will probably would a warranty for the device

@jochman12 I am not to sure because I never opened an xbox 360 controller but to take a guess... I don't think so because 360 thumb sticks will either be too small/big or it doesn't have the same shaped hole that fits into the ps3 sticks (rectangle)

I had one controller that got wet and stopped working and another I smashed when I got mad (It happens lol) but still worked. So I took both apart and put the good components into the good frame. Now I have a perfect controller again. Thanks!
My controller was doing all sorts of weird navigation and button pressing without me touching it, so I decided to open it up and remove my 10 year old cellular waste, grease and dust build up... It was kinda disgusting, but now it works like new again! :D
Battery very difficult to remove - decided to very carefully leave it connected while cleaning the controller chassis and installing some modifications. Other than removing the lone Philips Screw and the white plastic plate, I did not require any other access to the DualShock 3 PCB. And after putting it back together again, everything is working fine. Thank you for the video.
@94PrestonB That just means you prolly assembled the controller really well cus it lights up when you plug it in!... I had the same problem my first time. Think your problem could be you put the reset button on backwards so when you close the controller all it does is keep resetting which causes it to keep blinking. Or you didn't fully connect the batter pack which is why there is only power when plugged in, let me know if you fixed it and test it out before closing the controller

@monkeneere1 The non-vibrating should have less steps because there are no rumble packs to worry about. The process will be mostly the same except for maybe 1 or 2 minor differences
Either the screwdriver doesn't fit the screw(Different screwdriver) or you've stripped the screw, which then you can try get a bigger a screwdriver and put lots of pressure on the screw and turn anti clockwise(throw that screw away, it's no good) if that doesn't work there's not much you can do.
