Very interesting. Thanks for tabling this theory. Ive thought for a while that, although BOP are an obvious problem, surely the vast amount of losses means they are not the sole cause.Hopefully the topic will raise cause for debate amongst the Racing pigeon world

Joe Murphy has been telling us about the Kp index etc for years , very informative though. Thank you 😊

It's not just England. Where I fly in the central part of the West Coast of the U.S., losses in the 25% to 50% range are common in EVERY race even among old birds. In our case, Birds of Prey are highly prevalent, but it's also wires and other factors. My grandfather raced here (same property in fact) 50 to 60 years ago and even though he was not very successful as he was not consistent on feeding and training, he very rarely lost pigeons despite doing things that I'd consider practically suicidal like releasing birds that had only been loft flown from 200 miles away when he worked out of area. Smash races took place, but they were considered to be rare events. By stark contrast, I lose large numbers of birds even during relatively short road work and they are far superior pigeons to what he had. Needless to say, something has changed during that period of time.

The bop problem is far worse then people think,
There are pairs of perigrins every 2 or 3 miles, then you have the single ones, our birds get hit multiple times coming home,

I've seen a video of a flock of racing pigeons flying into the ground from a training toss. The handler went and looked up the weather and there was a solar flare at the time. Assumptions were the solar flare caused the birds to become disoriented

There are many many issues that are effecting the homing ability of our pigeon it’s not just down to one. Sadly these are out of our control not a thing we can do about it. Imagine all those imaginary power signals that are travelling from earth to satellite/space, there must be millions. Make a list of all the things that you think are effecting the return of our pigeons, you will be surprised. 😮

There is definitely something , but why do some fanciers get them and some dont ?

    Interesting to learn this.
Are racing pigeons fitted with location telemetry like some birds of prey are?

If what you say is true it still does not explain what happens to all those pigeons that are then regarded as lost?
Its not as if massive amounts of stray pigeons arrive at strange lofts as you would expect?
Surely if that was the case those lost birds must end up somewhere?
We are not talking about a limited number of missing birds.!
We are talking about litteraly thousands of racing pigeons annually.
No trace of most of these birds are ever found!
They cannot simply be dissapearing in to thin air.?
By the way this is not only an England phenomenin.
Its happening in many places across the globe.

Guessing when you say the pigeons internal GPS you mean the way they use the earths magnetic fields to navigate opposed to how a drone would use signals from a satellite.
Doing a quick Google, it seems the magnetic fields are too strong and are not effected by the suns solar radiation, so unfortunately this may not be the issue.
Also guessing the birds can use other methods to navigate such as using land marks? Maybe weather conditions have an effect?

Not saying you’re wrong but how can a number of lofts in the same Fed get 100 percent returns and others only get 50 percent or less if it was k index it would effect all the birds. What I have noticed is lofts loss the race before YBS and then they miss a week send again and have more loss the same applies with fat eye birds have it a week before it shows it’s self just my thoughts

This is going to sound silly but why not put gps rings on bop’s that can be pinged by cell phone towers and plan accordingly the race or release of the pigeons around the loft.

5G frequencies are not "new". Let me rephrase: the frequencies currently allocated to 5G cellular data have been in use for other purposes for decades. Some of these uses, like for broadcast TV or land-to-satellite communication were at very high power. It's just the type of content that has changed. IF today's use of these same frequencies for the transmission of 5G really is the cause, perhaps it's because pigeons can no longer tune in to all the great science and documentary programming on BBC Two. They've just gotten less informed of the world around them!
